During the Iran/Iraq conflict Regan gave the go ahead to help Iraq develope chemical weapons and helped train their soldiers. He was concerned about OIL and decided Iran was a bigger threat.

How can some people regard REgan as a good president? The man gave the means and training to a country runned by a heinous dictator? Remember Reganomics?

Thanks RegaN, the training you gave to Iraq is killing countless Americans. Guerrilla Tactics is annoying.

Reagan didn't suck but there is a ton of revisionist history. He's not even in the top five of his century. In chronoloogical order but not importance there's...

Teddy Rosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Rosevelt, Harry Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and then I would put Reagan seventh behind all six of those.

If Bush the Younger was from last century he would be ahead of Reagan too. All in all not to bad for a president. Reagan may be even be in the top fifteen all time. Which is damn impressive when you think about it. But he's not the Mesiah that many conservatives make him out to be.

Do you remember Reaganomics? I'm kind of curious how old you were during Reagan's presidency... maybe that's why you don't remember how to spell his name :)

It's the same reason when Nixon died he was given a nice eulogy from the press, people forget over time.

Like Reagan saying I don't remember all those times.

Or the time he claimed he saw Lincoln's ghost.
Because a lot of the policies he put into place are still in effect sadly.
I have a feeling that we'll be saying that 20 years from now about our current president.

This makes me think of ani difrancos song "trickle down", it's based on the trico steel plant closing in buffalo (another dagger for the city) in the 80's.

the president assured us
it was all gonna trickle down
like it'd be raining so much money
that we'd be sad to see the sun
mr. wilczewski's brother had some business
out in denver
so they left town
and everybody knows they were the lucky ones

I'm not so sure, a lot of what Bush has done has been to simply amplify Reagan's policies rather than create new ones. Hell lot at his cabnet, it's full of old Reagan flunkies.

Yeah, Bush Jr. is basically Reagan, part 2. His dad was at least bright enough to realize that most of Reagan's policies were idiotic ('voodoo economics' is what he called the trickle-down theory.) Bush Jr. isn't nearly as smart, though, and is much more like the average American in that he was completely wowed by Reagan's charisma and completely unable to understand why Reagan's economic policies were and are absolute trash.

But see that's the key point, Reagan's policies worked just fine for 8 years mainly because all he really needed was bullshit, bullshit to wait for the economy to improve better and bullshit to help bankrupt the soviet union. The problem with Bush is he tries to use the same tactics to combat problems that can't be bought off with money.
