Why does Final Fantasy VII still cost so much?

I remember when you could pick it up at EB for about $10. I know interest spiked when things like Advent Children came out, but why is it still so high? They sold 10 million copies! You can buy it right now on PSN for $10. Why are even Greatest Hits copies still through the roof?

Haven't seen one go that low lately, I must have missed the boat there. $15 + SH is not unreasonable at all.

Most of the ones I see are still in the 30s, theres a GH copy ending in 5 minutes thats already at 30 shipped with no manual.

I remember reading somewhere that the price versus demand on Final Fantasy 7 was a generational thing. When it first came out in 1997 I was fifteen or so, and it corresponded with the purchase of my first Playstation system. Fast forward to the present day, and you have kids ten years younger than me who were too young to really enjoy the game when it first came out, but much of the buzz still persists.

You might as well ask why Super Mario Bros 2 and 3 for NES still command some value even though they've been re-released on other systems ad infinitum. It's more than just hardcore collectors influencing those prices; there's also plenty of people who remember playing those games in their youth or childhood. I'm guessing that there's still plenty of people who would prefer the genuine article over the digital download...

The $30-$40 range doesn't seem that unreasonable to me at all. That is where it should be and should stay IMO. I still have my hard copy of the game as well as the PSN version and I wouldn't sell my copy for anything. There is still a demand for the game, so it will sell for a higher price.

For collectors (the people who will buy the physical copy of this game), the existence of a DD version of the game does not affect the value of the item in the least.

Because people are kinda stupid. A game with this many copies on the market could easily dip below $20 if the buyers would realize that this is one of the most popular games ever and the market is flooded with copies of this game.

I remember selling my disc only, GH copy for $76 just days before Advent Children was about to come out. It was pretty awesome.

Will Radiant Silvergun come to North American on the Xbox Live? That game is overpriced man, only a serious collector would pay $100+ for that game.

Of course, all those, you also have to factor in shipping, but it's entirely possible to get a copy for under $20 shipped. For some reason, though, people still bid up to $30+ for a copy, but if you look around, you can snag one for $15 shipped or so.

I got my complete BL one for $15 shipped.

Sold all 4 of mine I originally owned about two years back for $90 each.

You can definitely find it for anywhere from $10-$20 easily if you camp out on ebay.

good times..
Those were good times, thats when I unloaded my FF stuff.

I'll keep hunting on ebay but I have to laugh at the people who put rare in their titles for this game. Its the 2nd highest selling Playstation game ever.

Seriously. Does anyone do that with Gran Turismo?

I'm glad FFVII came out on PSN. More people get to enjoy it without having to pay out the nose, and it looks like the eBay prices have come down accordingly. Yeah, they were MUCH worse only a few years ago. Nowadays, it's just the sealed copies that have insane prices.

Now if only the PC versions of FFVII and FFVIII would come out on Steam or something (not typically a graphics snob, but I can't stand the way PS1 games look; the PC versions are easier on the eyes). I still have my copies of both, but I'd like to see it happen nonetheless :p FFVII can be a bitch to run in newer versions of Windows, though...

I think the reason why Final Fantasy VII is always priced for so much money is because people think it is the best Final Fantasy ever (not...) but I mean you just need to look around for the game. I found a GH copy of it at my local Play N' Trade for only $12
Some of you need to go learn about supply and demand .
10 million copies is more supply than all but one other Playstation title, nevermind its availability on PSN. Yeah, the black label and sealed copies are less common and they should cost more, but to see GH copies missing a case or manual still crack $30 is insane.

Saw that, seller is disreputable. Also there is no indication of whether it includes a case or manual. I'm sure if I'm patient I can get a GH copy for just under $20, which is not unreasonable.

I had to replace my copy back about 01-02 when I lost track of the friend who borrowed it- it was $20 at Gamestop then, black label copy.

I don't think the prices are terribly unreasonable now... RPGs typically command a higher resale value later anyway, some of those 10 millions copies have certainly been destroyed along that, combined with what I call 'mental inflation'- the spike around Advent Children put everyone in the mindset that the game is valuable. So, even though there's plently around, people are charging more 'becuase it's rarez', and people are willing to spend more 'becuase it's rarez'. Basically, it's idiocy raising prices.

Ebay:
games are cartridge/disk only unless otherwise stated.

Saw the above in the listing.

I must've missed it in his run on sentences with no capitalization (probably the reason why its like that). Regardless, I won an auction for a black label copy for the same price.
