I think it is because people just want to see how much someone else will offer. And then it lets them get mad when you either "lowball" them or *gasp* ask them how much they are looking to get. Some people will say they will even not sell to you if you ask them for a price. I dont buy from those people.
Yeah. Because offering me $20 shipped for 2-3 games just because you've seen them on clearance at Target for $5-7 each is a fair price when shipping is likely gonna set me back 1/4 of your offering price.
Or even better, you offer me a sports game guide or a guide for a mediocre shooter for something like Half Life 2: Raising The Bar, which is worth $50+ on the open market.
And yes, you could say 'well you likely only paid $.01 for that book and I only paid $.01 for mine, so it's an even trade'. How is that an even trade when one isn't even worth the paper it's printed on yet you could sell the other one once you're done with it for 5000% over what you gave me in the trade? I go by current market value when I price my stuff. You value things your way, I'll value them my way.
I price a lot of my items, but I also leave a lot open for offers. I do it mostly because I'm not necessarily looking to sell/trade that specific item, but if I get a good enough offer, I'll most likely have to let it go. I can't put a price on it at the moment, but once I hear that you're willing to pay a certain amount, I become interested.
Just like on Craigslist, unless I have a firm price set(which I still get haggled on

) I'm looking for offers on what I'm selling.
Most of what's on my TL now is stuff I don't care either way if I sell(definitely NOT looking to trade), but just like Tsel if the right price gets offered I may change my tune.
