Wii falls to $129.99 - Oct 28

This system came in strong but die immediately as soon as its successor was announced a year ago. How odd is that? Most systems don't get that bad until couple years into their successors' debut.

Yeah, I know we are CAGs and all, but if you waited this long, might as well just apply that cost to the Wii U.

That is what I'm doing. Skipped the Wii all together so I'm looking forward to playing those classics.

I'm a huge Smash Bros fan but have never played Brawl, looking forward to it.

hmmm...the last time this same bundle was out...(when the wii was BC with GCN games) Gamestop had it at this price when they were clearing it out for the Mario Kart bundles. Guess Im glad I picked mine up then

know thinking about it its not really a price drop since you can get the mario bundle right now for 149.

its going to cost you 20 + to get that game

they should of made it 99 or less

Its not odd at all this is Nintendo's MO with it comes to consoles. When the wii was annouced the GC was died on the spot and the same was true for the N64 when the GC was announced.

This is the no Gamecube support one, right? Because our Wii is dying and we don't want to give up GC support. So I guess I have to go used. I'd really like to pay well under $100, though. Like $50 is more what I was thinking....

FINALLY. Hopefully this means some first-party $20 games (SMG2, I'm looking at you).

The GC is $30 used at GameStop right now...that'd be the best option for you at this point.

Correct. You might be able to find a retailer who still has the old model in stock and will sell it to you at the 129 price though. Good luck!

They really need a new round of nintendo selects for the holidays. It's a real shame that nothing is announced. Probably to generate more hype for WiiU, but considering that it is sold out everywhere anyway, might as well try to clear out the Wii stuff a little more agressively.

IIRC they did this with GC software after the Wii launched, dropping the prices sometime in December. Makes sense to clear old stock and provide cheap games for new WiiU owners.

I'm a huge Wii fan (bought it on day one and loved every minute of it... probably have 60 games), but that is too much for it now. The games will die off quickly because there isn't the strong 3rd party support, and Nintendo doesn't really keep the old stuff going. If it had GC compatability that would be a good price, but as it is you're better off getting a WiiU even at double the price.
It was already $100 last BF so at least $80 this yr I'll grab it @ $50 one way or another
It was $100 at Walmart last year with no game(not even Wiisports). Everything else was a GC deal. I could definitely see it at $100 with the games this year though.

They also had it for 100 at Best Buy online only for like 3 minutes before they sold out. That was the bundle with NSMBW. But yeah, it is a little misleading to say it was 100 last year, because the one at Walmart was just the console and the one at best Buy was online only and was only in stock for like 3 minutes.

If that bundle is 100 this year, I'm gonna get me one to replay the mario games and play the Kirby Collection.

For you guys that want one for some reason and still havne't gotten it yet, chances are you can wait and won't mind a used one. Just wait until after the Wii-U comes out. There won't be a reason to own a Wii if you have a Wii-U so there should be plenty of owners looking to get rid of their Wiis.

The Kirby collection is so good. Probably the most well produced console collection of older games. It has tons of history and trailers for each game.

I just remembered though, there is an activision classic collection on PS2 that has a commercial for a 2600 game starring Phil Hartman. That was an awesome disc because of stuff like that.

Also note that the lack of gamecube controller ports actually makes some popular Wii games, like Dance Dance Revolution and the Active Life series, unplayable.

Those games have/require controller mats that plug into the GC controller ports. As if dropping backwards compatibility wasn't annoying enough, these new systems literally don't have the hardware to play some actual Wii games.

Hoping for $100 with NSMBW on Black Friday. I may bite at that price point. There are games on the Wii I'd love to play but haven't because I have never owned one. Works out great for me because I have a Gamecube in pretty good shape.
Yep, i'll finally be picking up one. Is there a list of must have Wii and Cube games?
If you look through the rest of the thread, the model dropping in price isn't backwards compatible with GC games and is also lacking the GC controller ports needed for some Wii games (like DDR and Active Life). So a list of must have Cube games would be pretty much useless.
Yep, i'll finally be picking up one. Is there a list of must have Wii and Cube games?
I'm sure you could find many, but for Wii these are my personal must haves:

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 (2 is on par with the classic mario games for me)
NSMB
Metroid Prime Trilogy if you can find it under $70
Muramasa (unless you have a Vita, pretty sure its getting a nice port)
Deadly Creatures
Klonoa remake
Pikmin 1 and 2 NPC (NPC series are wiimote controlled ports)
Donky Kong Country Returns
Xenoblade
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
Bit Trip Complete
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Kirby Collection
Little King's Story
RE4
A Boy and his Blob
Monster Hunter Tri
Sin and Punishment 2
Go Vacation
Boom Blox
Punch Out

I really wanted that BB $100 deal. I stayed up until like 3am refreshing every couple of minutes looking for that deal, and finally gave up and fell asleep. Woke up early that morning, figured I missed it, hit refresh and there it was, available.
Yep, i'll finally be picking up one. Is there a list of must have Wii and Cube games?
Wii:
Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Zelda: Skyward Sword
Zelda: Twilight Princess
MadWorld
Okami
Resident Evil 4
Super Paper Mario
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Monster Hunter Tri
Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Gamecube:
Zelda: Wind Waker
Zelda: Four Swords Adventures
Eternal Darkness
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Super Mario Sunshine
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Viewtiful Joe
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
Donkey Kong Jungle Beat
Baten Kaitos

Wow, how did I forget Zelda!?

I'd also say Epic Mickey if you're a Disney fan at all. There is some really cool stuff in that game, though it is intended for kids like a few of the other games on my list. They tend to overexplain things constantly and it does feel a bit rushed. I hope 2 is better, but it was still very interesting and it was nice to see Oswald take a big role so soon after Disney negotiated to get him back.

Must be a Nintendo thing because of few worthwhile 3rd party support. I have the Wii but my last Nintendo system (not counting portables) was the SNES but didn't recall it went belly up right at the announcement of N64.

I haven't self promoted this in the main forum, but I've been working on lists for every year for the Wii (I only have three done so far, working on 2008 right now), as with the Wii U a lot of people are going to be wanting cheap games to add to their collection:

Wii Retrospect 2006
Wii Retrospect 2007
Wii Retrospect 2010

Not all of these are must haves, but there are many niche titles that may spark your interest to look at besides the more well known titles. I'll try to get all the years done before Wii U comes out, as it helps to have a box art and short description to go along with the name.

When I worked yesterday at Target, I saw that the Just Dance 3 wii bundle (regular price of $129.99, so the wii has already been this price for months technically) had a temporary price cut to that $99 mark. It is a target exclusive bundle though, so you probably can't price match it, but yea, these signs were out at least all day Sunday, and not a single person asked about it.

So if you want one for 99, I'd give target a call. And while yes, there is the classic 'no call about deals' rule, I'm pretty sure most target will have like 20 in stock, and they should hold at least to the end of the day.

Not even worth $50, the wagglefest controls and lousy hardware completely ruined this console. Plus of course it had more shovelware than any other console, by far. Thank God I skipped this at launch, didn't waste a penny on it or the games and dorky peripherals.
Yep, i'll finally be picking up one. Is there a list of must have Wii and Cube games?
Newer systems aren't backwards compatible with GC games.

I don't get it. Home many more sales are they going to get at $129 than they were going to get at $149? The reason you lower the price is to generate enough sales to make up the difference. The only people who will buy it at $129 were probably going to buy it at $149 anyway. If they would have hit the psychological $99 barrier I think they could have drummed up a bunch more sales.

Seriously? Thanks for the heads up.

I will tell non-wii owners that I was disappointed in the wii and I have had one since launch. It was definitely the worst console of the last 5 or 6 to me. (GC, PS1, PS2, PS3, Xbox, 360 were all better than it to me) The Gamecube ranks higher to me because of better controls and less shovel ware.

And here I thought it was already at $100 .

Still, rag on it all you want, but they now include NSMB, right? That's not a bad deal for a console + that game. And I'm sure they will be $100 around BF.

Kaydigi - The Wii has the best game of this generation IMO: Xenoblade Chronicles. My launch Wii system purchase (plus a second one when Kmart had those great deals on the red ones) was more than justified by that game alone. But if you are looking for other games, of course there are these: Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, Zelda Skyward Sword, Metroid Prime 3 (great use of the pointer aspect for aiming), Super Paper Mario, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Kirby's Epic Yarn, and many others I am forgetting about. It had a lot of great games but just because it didn't have HD graphics and the ability to stare at your friends list and see what other people are playing (pretty much all I get out the vaunted online features of my 360/PS3) people dump on it all the time.

Just to put things in perspective, that's what the PS2 was priced at around when the PS3 launched, and actually, higher, taking inflation into account. PS2 did not hit the magical 99 dollar price point until about 3 years after the launch of the PS3.

Also, Wii SKU always includes a game or two, where as the standard PS2 SKU would not.

Metroid Prime 3 was by far my favorite game on the Wii.

Got this a few years ago at $250. Quite happy with it because of the BC. I like playing my Zelda Collector's Edition game. No BC is a real dick move on the part of Nintendo, just because they feel they can get more money that way.

You guys should hop in the Cowboom thread. Got my Wii for $50 and have been loving catching up on the games I've missed. Buy used, and if you are anal about scuffs then buy a skin for it.
