Details on functionality are slowly rolling in. Supposedly it effects the Internet Channel and Everybody Votes Channel.

Anybody notice any differences?

Details (by way of GoNintendo):
- USB keyboard compatible
- links received on the Wii message board now open in Internet Channel
- can send links to friends
- can copy text from the page being viewed and paste it into a search

I doubt Nintendo sends messages to everyon e at the same time. It's best to spread it out as much as possible to lessen the load on the servers when people start to download the update.

Wow I have to say I'm really disappointed with the firmware updates Nintendo is providing for my Wii. For the most part they are all pretty useless. Come on Nintendo take a page from Sony with the updates; something useful please!

What is it with these tiny ass updates?
They're such minor upgrades.
Worth upgrading 10 million Wii's (risking HW failure) for this?

Give me the HDD or playable SD support please.
Give me a Mario Paint channel.
Give me something.

And not copy/paste.

Damn, forgot about the clock.
It's digital!

I'd make a thread about the Nintendo Conference going on right now, but I'm lazy.

I'll post some good news since this update is stupid.

The Wii is confirmed to be getting a DS demo download channel somethingorother.

In the biz, that's called a false negative.

It added the date at the bottom of the screen when you are in the channels.

AWESOME TO TEH MAX

WE CAN DANCE IF WE WANT TO

Just updated. Went quickly and smoothly.

Yay for keyboard support within the Internet Channel.

Other than that, I don't see any real significant changes.

Do you own a PSP or PS3? They get tiny updates a helluva lot more frequently than the Wii does.

Are there any keyboard shortcuts for actually clicking "OK?" I guess I'm glad that the browser supports keyboards, but without any way to get around clicking the OK button with the Wii remote, it's not very useful.

I look forward to the Wiimote/Keyboard mods that will inevitably be made...or a Nintendo branded keyboard with built in Wiimote.

And that's fine.
Those systems are updated continually, and they're nicely maintained.

If Nintendo is going to do updates once in a blue moon.
Make them worthwhile!

Woke up to Ninty's three messages.

The update (and the re-downloading of Internet and Votes channels) went pretty quickly.

Hmmm...Seems like people were begging for keyboard compatibility with the Internet Channel not too long ago. Now it happens and they're all whiny. Figures.

Glad they added link sending in the message board. That was an oversight that needed addressing.

2 people?

And you can bet I never cared about the last lame update either.

I don't care about the updates in general. About the only things I'll get excited for are a DS Demo channel or a Wii demo channel. Latter would probably require a Hard Drive though.

Otherwise, I don't use the Wii for anything but playing games, so the updates don't matter much to me.
Though what happened to that september surprise?
Pretty sure that had to do with the release of Sin & Punishment and Super Mario Bros. 2.
