doh... I was hoping for an impression... but ok... I'll get it after work and have my impression tonight.
Ok... I finally got around to picking it up.
The gameplay is amazingly fun. It's slower paced than I remembered, the controls are completely smooth, complex but intuitive. The controls are tight and the strategies of the game are more like trying to solve the defense as if it were a puzzle than trying to ping pong and speed burst around them in prior soccer games that I have played.
I have seen better graphics, but they serve their purpose... the animations transitiion beautifully. I like the AI, they back off and change the pace of the game trying to suite their strengths. I hate when soccer is a run and gun affair, this game provides a great balance of both. Sometimes they will slow things down and then spring a run on you that gets them a quality chance.
Lack of online play is a slight dissappointment, but the AI is tremedous and provides a dynamic experience. Many sports games that I have played have one pattern and the AI can't stop it. This game thus far is more creative about trying to new things to counter my strategies.
I have noticed anticipation, and I believe it is tied in with the player attributes. The more skilled players will attempt a run on their own, while less skilled players will wait on your actions or just stand there.
The menus are ok, simple and straight forward. I loved the graphs of my players career.
So if you like strategic soccer, this game is great. If you want to just out run your opponents and rack up shots on goal it's not. I was held to 2 chances in my first USA versus Poland game. I didn't feel cheated, I felt them in control of the game all through.
I apologize if I rambled... hope my comments help.
oh yeah, Doubledown... I picked it up at Blockcuster in the metro detroit area... Troy location, but I know that the Rochester location got it in too.
