This is awesome. It will certainly up the replay value if companies do this for their games. New golf courses to play HSG on, Mid-season roster updates, new missions for adventure games, etc. The possibilities are endless. I hope they don't cost a lot of money though - I could only see myself shelling out a few dollars (less than $5) for added content - especially if companies start to get lazy and release games just to get them out and "finish" them with downloadable content... I love the idea though...

yeah this is good but it could turn out real bad if it does to well... javeryh I think you hit the nail on the head with your "worry"

I like how the article notes that so far, downloadable content for the PSP has been "massively neglected." Huh? I mean, the damn thing isn't even out in a bunch of countries yet, and it just came out here a couple of week ago - did they expect DL content to be available right out of the box?

I dunno, everyone said the same thing about the XBox before that launched and there haven't been any issues there really.

Anyone else really surprised by there being an Aphex Twin track in Wipeout?
I was really fucking happy when i noticed that, as R.D.J. is one of my favorites.

And now this news:
""""The website will also provide more incidental content for download, such as extra music tracks and billboard designs.

A music mixer will also be featured on the site and will grant players the opportunity to remix all of the in-game music tracks. Once players are happy with their tweaking and twiddling, they will be able to download their efforts.""""

fucking Awesome

How much do you want to bet the music downloads will cost ya. The remixer will probably get a ton if use though since it's just altering stuff you already have.

"downloading all the initial packs will definately fill up the 32MB memory stick"

oh joy. now i gotta plunk down more money for a larger memory stick

wait, this is gonna cost money? fuck that.

the content download will become available on Sony's WipEout Pure homepage, right? i know it's not coming until after the Euro launch.

Who said it was going to cost extra? The article says:

"When we raise the subject of a 'contents for cash' price structure, Ceraolo is, at least with regards to the short-term strategy, assured in his response. "We want to get people to use the extra content, so for the first six months I can't see there being any paid-for content - it's not something we want to do."

Should have? Most of that 'extra content' would never have been made if they didn't charge for it (Mech Assault, Links). You think developers want to spend another 2-3 weeks and design more levels for free? C'mon. Games have deadlines. Free downloadable content is great, but the pay portion also helps them develop that free stuff for you.

I was refering to the extra MUSIC when I mentioned money. I see no reason why the updates should cost us anything, the only reason they're holding anything back is so that the euro launch can get the same update the US and Japan get rather than forcing them to get two or more in order to catch up. It's probably less of a server load if you arnt hosting 3 different update files as opposed to one.
