I called up my friend for something, and he asked if I knew anyone that wanted to buy a PS2 from his friend. I asked how much he wanted to sell it for and he said $60-$80. I jokingly offered $10 and the guy said $20 and it's a deal.

I probably could've haggled, but it was already such a good deal.

It's the regular PS2, not slim.

With friend like you, who need enemies ^____^;

That's what I was thinking.

Also, it's in pretty shitty condition.

The thumbstick grip things on the controllers are both ripped off and the front of the DVD drive on the PS2 is broken off

The front of the dvd drive thing comes off with some slight pressure and actually CAN be 'slid' off somehow and the 'rubber things' on the analog sticks come off with time and use.

I just hope you tested it, since if the warranty seal on the back of the system is missing, they may have messed with it internally and screwed it up further.

And usually, if someone IS willing to let a system and controllers go THAT cheap, the controllers are usually messed up(analog sticks tend to get 'stuck' after a while and your character will seem possessed and move on its own) or it may have disconnected wires(from people who wrap the controllers wire right around the controller).

There's just SO many things that COULD go wrong with both the system AND controllers. But, for $20, I'd take the system and controller(s) to GS and trade them in if they work at all. And do it QUICK, in case it all IS messed up.

Wait, so you support people trading in potentially if not broken items and then bitch that EB/GS does not test them before selling them?

Again with the attention, I must say I'm flattered. However, they DID test most of the systems I traded in, although on busy days they may let some slide by.

It all depends on who is working. And yes, I support people trading in crap to GS because that's the price they'll get for it anyway. I rarely buy used systems, but when I have, I've been pretty happy because I buy them from places that test the HELL out of them before buying them.

And, I usually know what to look/listen for in systems with known problems.

Its not like our good morals would rub off on them.

So trading in broken stuff is right, but them selling broken stuff you traded in is wrong. Gotcha. Just want to make sure.

Well, if they test it, which I know some stores don't see to have the time to do, they wouldn't have a problem. Besides which, only the PS2s seemed to have major problems last gen, enough for class action suits.

Gotcha. Just want to make sure I know you are OK with trading broken stuff in and screwing over customers, gotcha.

If by customers, you mean the casual gamers whose moms n dads buy their kids crap from the GS chain without thinking and think they're getting a good deal, when they don't even know what systems their kids have half the time, then yeah maybe I do. If consumers would educate themselves more, this chain would've died like all the other overpriced ones have.

Besides which, what do you think some people do with all their dying systems? Keep them to stare at them once they finally DIE?

Sure, there are people who think a $50 game is a good distraction and once they're done playing through it won't even bat an eyelash at getting $5 for it, but that's NOT me.

I only go to them when they have trade deals and only when I've bought the games for cheaper than what I'm getting for them.

And you know, all this attention, I swear you have something for me, don't ya? Sorry, but I don't swing that way.....

And, so I don't even have to see whatever your lovely 'response' will be, you're the first CAG I'm putting on ignore.

You get crap prices because they have to deal with shitwads like you costing them money they could pass on to the consumer.

I've purchased a couple used systems from my Funcoland seven years ago before it was bought out by Gamestop, and they are still running strong.

Yeah, giant retail chains always pass the savings on to the customer. They never do anything stupid like give the top 1% of the company 70% of all the profit.

And, what pretell does that tell you, that you bought the systems prior to them being gobbled up by the corporate succubus known as Gamestop and they still work? That Funco actually gave a crap and didn't shove quotas down peoples throats to keep them employed? And thus, because of said quotas, employees now have to worry more about shoving the latest 'hot' game down customers throats and less about actually knowing about what they're pushing.

And actually, you get crap prices because some douchebags higher up decided it would be fun to gouge prices on harder to find games to match or slightly beat Ebay prices and/or some suckers trade in their games very quickly, thus causing the trade values to drop for EVERYONE.

If people actually KEPT their games instead of trading them for crap, chains might actually pay MORE for them, due to the lack of a supply.

But hey, if the people who frequently do that wanna be dips about it and keep doing it, then they will continue to be ass raped and the higher ups will keep smiling like crazy as they make massive bonuses based on the employees slave labor and the high profit margins on used games.

But again, I digress, since horrid companies seem to last forever(Gamestop, Circuit City) and good companies have gone under(at a loss for an example right now).
