Working at Home Depot?

I am looking for a summer job, and my parents want me to apply anywhere I can. Recently, my dad wanted me to apply to Home Depot. I have heard so many horrible things about Home Depot, so if anyone has worked there (or know someonethat has), what is it like? Is it good, or does it make you want to kill yourself?

Get a job....slacker!

Seriously, read the Target thread going on now and realize that all retail jobs suck. Just pick one and survive the summer.

My dad worked at Home Depot for five years and he really liked it. Although only one of those five years were spent as just an associate he was a manager for the other four.

Good luck with getting a job with home depot. lol I tried getting on like 4 years ago, just a secondary job, and well i wont say what happen, but i dont care for home depot, none of them. You may have a better chance getting on sams, or walmart.

Peace.

I know that, I just want one that sucks the least ;)

You must be young. When you get to the point where you actually need a job to live you wouldn't even ask this question.

I haven't worked at Home Depot but it's a place that I wouldn't mind working at as an overnight stock associate. There's one place that I know you will hate though and that's a Wal-Mart. I don't think it's even possible for me to hate a job anymore after working for them and I only worked for them for 3 months.

I use to be a Retailer for home depot and even then It sucked. We were an outside company setting planograms and keeping the shelves clean and they treated us like pure crap. Personally get a job cutting the lawns lol. At least u don't have to deal with customers. Or the best place i ever worked was the movie theatres. Crappy pay but hey u got to see movies for free and saw a movie that came out on Friday

get a job at baskin robbins. i worked there when i was 17 one summer, that shit kicked ass. all the free ice cream i wanted, hookin up friends. the boss never came around, several of my friends worked there, we kept a bottle of rum in the back and a bong. nothing like booze smoothies after close followed by some smoking in the freezer.

agreed, I work for an outside company and I used to go in to assemble stuff at Home Depot and was treated like crap. The red tape I have to go through there to even get a PO number and the amount of people I have to talk to and wait literally hours for just to get a stinking sign off on my workorder is insane. But maybe they treat their actual employees better than outside vendors.

I have heard HD gives a nice starting salary, over minimum, but maybe that was just that area. I've also heard people say good things about Starbucks as a place to work.

The whole lawn thing isn't a bad idea. I'd love to have someone I could pay to do lawn help. My husband cuts the lawn, but I need help with trimming bushes and such. If I left it to him I'd be left with some scraggly sticks with a couple leaves on them. Many lawn places are really high priced because of gas prices and having to pay everyone on the crew. I'd go to a nice neighborhood and start offering.
