Worst Online Game Experience

So, what's your worst game experience online? For the first time in 5 years, someone sunk lower then I thought was humanly possible. I'm playing a basketball game online. Now, most games have timers on them so someone can't pause the game for 2 hours. This was a ranked game, not that the rankings matter. So, you are #1 in Madden. Good for you. Who cares? I mean, really. But, this guy or gal who had a flawless record plays me. First thing they do is foul. I'm thinking OK. Second foul. Third foul... Fourth foul. I start seeing a pattern. All they do is foul/get a 5 second inbound ball violation.

This makes the game drag ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON... Kinda like my posts. I had my relative look at the clock. It took nearly 20 mins. for 2 mins. of game clock to expire. I had to try and run around not to get fouled to get any time to go off the clock. Pretty soon, what do you know, an hour has gone by and we're only now in the 2nd quarter. I thought about quitting or turning the game off(maybe I should have). But, then I thought. I'll teach this guy or girl a lesson. I switched to my Gamecube and played it. I switched back an hour later to discover this guy or girl was doing the same thing. Crazy. Total game time = 2 hours and a half I think. But, he quit in the 3rd quarter(dropped). Now his record isn't flawless. Teaches him a lesson. But, thing is if he wants to be #1, all he has to do is keep doing this. Others won't have the patience(nor should they) to stay, and will disconnect or quit, giving this guy's record a boost. I guess we can all post feedback, but I have no clue if they ever ban people from these online PS2/Xbox games. I guess it helps to play only people you know online. Thank god I didn't have to go to work the next morning, because I would have turned the game off(or maybe left it on till I got home).

Yeah, pullers on Capcom vs SNK2 really soured me to Xbox Live. When you pull in that game it just goes down as a draw, and your record stays the same (it should be a win for the non-puller). Disgusting, and very common.

Worst OGE:

I'm playing NFS:U for PS2 right after it comes out online. Racing against someone and winning by a good 22 seconds. Next thing I know the guy flies by me and wins the race by over a minute. Apparently EA had no cheating prevention built in when you played other players. This put a bad taste in my mouth from then on about online gaming on consoles.

thats super retarded, why would anyone want to waste their time just to boast their stats like that. Stuff like this is a major reason i don't play online as much anymore. Good job giving him a tatse of his own medicine though. You ahve more patience then i would have had.

I had a similar thing happen. was playing starcraft with a group of people and my friend >_> we made it a "7vs1 comp free win" to lure in idiots so we could backstab them and hear them whine. "oh no, I wanted a free win on my record but I was fooled." well, this one guy wasn't too happy about it, so had had this hack that would leave the game in the "waiting for other players" mode, but you couldn't drop him from the game. hence, he was counting on us to give up and leave so he would get a win, he's stop the hack every now and then to see if we left. I just put the game in another window and starting doing other stuff. after about an hour and a half he quit and our armies finally destroyed him.

Someone told me you can use turbo buttons on NFL games online to run faster. Is this true? I don't fault the game makers though too much. No matter how much you beta test, glitches and bugs will always make it into the game, and some people have nothing better to do then to look for the bugs and glitches to take advantage of. And, in my case, how can you prevent someone from doing this again in the future? You can't really. Next time it happens, I think I'm just going to shut the game off. I'd check in on the game every few mins, but that got quite annoying.

Interesting. Someone asks about assholes online, and here's one oblivious to his status.

I find it hard to feel bad for you when you preface your story by saying you made a game just so you can be a dick head to another player.

That same thing happened to me once playing Magic: the Gathering Online. Some punk I was playing with tapped all his magic and all his monster/spells in an all-out attack that would have taken off 18 HP, and I only had 16 or so left. I had nothing to defend with, since I had attacked last turn. I had one spell that would work, I forget what it did, but basically it resulted in my taking absolutely no damage, and his mana being wasted. He said 'You shouldn't play that when I tap out all my magic'. I was like WTF, that's how the game is played. He said Fine, I'm going to play Everquest, see ya later, and left his turn on. [There were more snarky, Nyahh, I don't like losing comments, but that was the gist of it.]. After I bitched him out for being an immature little punk quitter who couldn't deal with losing [although the game wasn't even over], I opened another window, played another game or two, then went to eat dinner, after sending him one final message: 'Oh yeah, I'm on broadband, I can wait as long as you can, you little shit.' When I came back, he had played, so it was my turn. I said, "Oh, you played? Okay, i'll go." then minimized the window and went to bed.

cheaters on halo (the 1st one..when playing on xbox connect)..most annoying thing ever

I'm sorry, that's funny : )

Im sorry for laughing at your pain but that is some funny stuff right there.

Raped by anorexic crack whores is your fantasy? Okay.

Worst gaming experience.. hmm.. I guess people just cheating online like in CS, I haven't had really any bad experiences via consoles.. early quitters in Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO so it wouldn't hurt them, but it never really bothered me.. the only server I play TFC on, i'm an admin on, so I really don't tolerate people there (I just joined a few minutes ago and saw a player call an admin a n****r loving fagmotron, so I laid the banhammer on him). I like playing there, mainly because I can catch the dickheads and give them what they deserve :)

I've had people sing to me on certain games which is very annoying. Playing loud music can be bothersome as well(At least you can cut the sound off). Of course, the usual cussing, yelling and hatred. And, like a CAG'er already mentioned - having someone kill you that is on your team. I'll never understand the people that have headsets but don't ever say a word the entire game.

Some just want to see their names in lights. I too don't really see any validity in on-line stat tracking. I have come to not even give a crap about how many kills, wins, losses, etc... the whole experience has been ruined by people that try to just rank up.

Counterstrike Source and all its versions. Not thats its a bad game but I always have this feeling of whether or not a person is hacking. I never get a true sense that the leading person has skill or 1337 hax.

Stupidity runs rampant in the Smackdown vs. RAW online community. And the lack of stat tracking has given rise to a special breed of ass; those who go into the chat lobbies and make braggadocious claims about their win-loss records, which are impossible to confirm or deny. Plus the general chat that goes on in the lobby makes a GameFAQs board look like an Oxford debate class.

But despite all the cheapness/stupidity, there are good players out there (usually the ones who don't say much). Getting a good match on is a very rewarding experience, well worth wading through all the BS.

This reminds me of a few things:

1-I remember playing Crimson Skies with the DCR crew and either sj41 or StealthySeal (will either claim the blame?) would sing. He asked if it was annoying and I replied that's why I was shooting him down.

2-I'm usually pretty quiet on the headset myself, especially if I'm on a team where some or most of the members apparently know each other. I even keep smartass remarks to myself.

3-Relating to playing loud music...people need to turn their damn TV volume down when using a headset. Half the games I played on Halo 2 had some dumbass who would have his volume cranked up, so it caused an echo for everyone on his team. They are usually the same ones who say "man this headset sucks! I keep hearing an echo!"

4-On a similar note, if you are using a headset, be aware that there is a mute button (at least on the Xbox, not sure on the PS2 headset), and you should use this if you decide that you need to talk to someone outside of the game. I've heard people talking on a cell phone, people yelling at others outside of the room they are in (usually "OK MOM!"), and people asking others to fix them a sammich. I'll usually drop from a game when this happens enough, even if the game is waiting to start.

5-While we're at it, pull the damn microphone out of your nose. If I want to hear heavy breathing, I'll pony up the $4 a minute.

I think the online cheating in the original Age of Empires was the worst. Being run down by 50 elephant calvary 5 minutes into the game was a common occurrence.

Another thing I have noticed... is that I cant crank up my surround sound and use the mic effectively. I want to hear the footstep of people trying to sneak up on me... but to do this and not cause feed back I have to keep my mic muted. So, it puts me in a pickle... one that I haven't yet figured out how to get out of. (I really dont want to have to mess with the mute button... actually I would rather just play with out the mic and maybe just talk in the lobby.)

no, it's the principal of the thing, you aren't supposed to make 7vs1 comp stomp games so you can make your record better. the point is, that people who think so highly of their record are idiots. so I backstab them to teach them a lesson. pure entertainment right there. and, I am not exploiting a glitch in the game or anything. I am just one of the enforcers of starcraft justice. :p

what problem? no real gamer would join a 7vs1 comp stomp game. I always play fair in real games. I'm just weeding out the sore losers/bad players that will boast about their high rank(and having fun while doing it), when it means nothing if you beat a 7vs1 game.

if thats how they get their kicks you should let them. it comes at no expense to you. and if your ranking really can go up that way (ive never played starcraft) then all the "real gamers" would know rank means nothing in that game and its the programers fault for makeing it that way.

If you claim rank is not important, you should have sucked it up when they used a cheat to counteract your cheating ways. No one will vouch for you, you are really an ass.

I resent that. I play with a lot of 13 year-old's (including myself) and we don't sound like the high-pitch kids playing. I've encountered the kids you're talking about and yes, they are annoying, but they can't help their voice. What they can help is screaming, which if they are doing, then please, say STFU--I do.

I don't think rank means a damn thing in any game. I remember being #100 in the world at Hang-On and Space Harrier long ago(Shenmue), when some jerk got his tag at #1 with an IMPOSSIBLE score of 99 million or something like that. They took it down a few days later, but point is it happened, and had it not been such an outlandish score, maybe no one would have noticed.

I am not meaning to disrespect any CAGS by saying this, but having played online games on the PCs for years and years, I have found that the online console players are just no fun to play with.

They have the maturity of a 12 year old (many are 12 year olds), they are rude, foul mouthed, quick to whine, quick to quit, and quick to kick.

Well, think about it. It's not as easy for asshats to go and install Call of Duty or whatever as it is for them to pop Halo 2 in and start yelling.

Blame the anonymity of the internet. In real life, if you act like a dick, there's a good chance someone will kick your ass, or in some other way rebuff you. On the internet, however, you can be as much of a dick as you want, sans fear of reprisal. This leads a lot of people to forget about manners and act as they please.

I'd say the worst was when every rectal wart in the universe decided to get on Phantasy Star Online with a gameshark and TK, steal rares, and wallhack at the same time. It was a pretty fun game until then.

Code users on PSO completely ruined that game. Nothing like spending hours finding rare items to have someone cause your whole inventory to be erased because some asshole used a code that FSOD the entire lobby. Me and my friends would play in locked games only to have some asshat use a GS to break through our passworded games, freely entering our game and causing havoc. And the beauty of this whole thing...YOU HAD TO PAY A MONTHLY FEE TO PLAY.

None of this tops the Real Money Trader video game players. For those of you that have played games like Final Fantasy XI, Everquest, etc., imagine playing a game with people who's sole purpose is to procure ingame items for sale for real money on the internet. Nothing is worse than trying to play a game and to be unable to party in certain areas because these types of people are monopolizing them. Not only will they spam your chat logs with threats (half the time in a foreign language) they will use every exploit in the game to get you to leave...from trying to steal monsters you are hunting or even worse, luring large groups of monsters to kill you. Nothing is worse than having to go to a certain area to complete some vital quest and having to deal with these people.

Not all anoying people online are 13 year olds; however, there are many who, despite their age, act like complete ass hats. You and your friends are something I can only persume to be rare, and I didn't mean to develop any ill will.

Fools come in all shapes and sizes. People that use ONLINE cheats generally ruin any game. I'm ticked that MC2 lets you use the code to unlock every car in the game online. Gives people an unfair advantage, and hurts those who don't wish to cheat, and rather earn their cars.

Not true... I like joining the 7-1 or the 5-3s where the computer has unlimited money and builds instantly... its great fun when you finally destroy them.

And as a general rule... I despise any game with voice chat. Either they're obnoxious with swearing et al... or they have the mic cranked so you go deaf... or its down too low so its just annoying grumbling... or they have rap blasting in the background... (I hate... HATE... rap)

Item farmers suck..

Diablo II morons using hacked items and then fuqq1n pwn3ding j00!!1

A couple weeks ago I was playing DDR Ultramix 2 on live. I had a room that listed as "elDirty Metal" since those familiar with the game and equipment know that most of the metal pads (Red Octane in this instance) get listed as controlers as opposed to pads. Most people seem to be accepting of it except for one dillweed who thought I was cheating because I achieved max combos three songs in a row, and then started to yell out a string of explitives that would make a sailor blush.
