I really dig the SSX games, and have done everything in Tricky, and mostly finished SSX 3. I just got a PS2, and keep seeing the original SSX for dirt cheap. Is it worth it to go back and play this, or is it really similar to SSX Tricky?

edit: d'oh, I meant ssx similar to tricky.

I would venture to guess that SSX is very similar to SSX.

ssx is ok if youre a fan of the series i say its worth a look to see where it all started. ive got tricky and ssx on tour myself and will eventually buy ssx and ssx 3 so i can have the whole set. ssx games are some fo the few racing games that are fun to replay over and over.

I had alot of fun with the original SSX, but the game has been far surpassed by Tricky and SSX 3. SSX 3 is my favorite, I was very dissapointed with On Tour. I actually went thru a period where I needed an SSX 'fix' a while ago. I just played 3 again.

I basically agree. SSX Tricky was a joy, and SSX 3 took it to the next level. I just ordered On Tour for $8 shipped, it'll be interesting to see how it is.

Oh its definitely worth $8. Its just a step down from 3 imho. I think I paid $20 for it, but I wish I waited and got it for $8. :D

I still think Tricky was the best (out of SSX, SSX Tricky and SSX 3, I never played On Tour). I never thought I could get so obsessed with a stupid snowboarding game. I really hope a next gen SSX comes out with some online play.

If you've exhausted the other SSX titles, and you can get it on the cheap, check it out. Be warned, though - it's the very definition of first generation PS2 game. The load times can cause madness, they will have you waiting a while.

I actually thought that the original SSX was the hardest of all of them. Maybe because the title became more polished and playable with Tricky and SSX3. I still loved the game and I think the wilderness run at the end is still the best (better than the one on Tricky).

I agree, SSX3 just seemed bland after Tricky.

Tricky had such great courses and characters - who can forget the melting Hawaii stage or the Pinball stage.

This obviously got way off topic, and I am glad to add but I was really disappointed with On Tour. For me, the "open" area of SSX3 (I haven't played Tricky or SSX) was such a great idea, and it was all lost in On Tour (and I didn't care for the music, but thats minor). I hope the next one goes back to the open atmosphere with better online support.
