WShakSpears Incredible's Review (some slight spoilers...and rambling)

Wshakspear

CAGiversary!
Amazing.
It makes me fight for words.
Where to start...
To get it out of the way, this is one of the most graphically stunning productions ever. Period. (ok, that was redundant). The hair, water, platic, fire, dust and anything else you can think of was real. If it wasnt for the main characters and the overall fact of them not really exisisting, it all could exist. The sets where designed by a James Bond Set Designer and it shows. The lave cave, the base itself, even Edna Mode's house are architecturally amazing.

Oh, yeah, there was a Star Wars trailer before the movie...guess what i was more impressed with.

The story flows through the movie...there are many facets to it, and will reach different people on thier own level. It's 2 hours worth of non-stop story and/or action and it doesnt drag on (unless all your looking for is action...then you may have to wait through some "talking bits").

I was so entranced by the movie i did not catch any of the regular pixar in-jokes (truck, collar, etc.), but there is a mention of someone named Brodie :)

The soundtrack was completely orchastral, and 90% James Bond esque tunes. The visual style with the music brought me into the picture even more....

It's almost 3 a.m. right now...i'll hopefully wake up and edit this to make some sense, but i might be out watching it again.

God i love the movie. Go see it, especially if im recomending it to God.

A+ 10/10 Monkey+1

Pixar normally has a few special items in every movie. The one most people know is the Pizza delivery truck from Toy story 1. It's been in every pixar flick since. In A Bugs Life it was next to the trailer where the circus was, and in Finding Nemo it drove by the window of the dentists office.

There was also a "short" pixar made with a juggling, unicycling clown doing his thing in a ring that had a star shape logo inside. That star shape was actually a flat version of the ball in Luxo Jr. (the lamp "short") and has since been in almost all pixar shorts/movies.

The mean dog from Toy Story's collar was also used for the ring at the circus in A Bugs Life.

John Ratzenberger (Piggy Bank, PT Flea, Yeti, School of Fish) was really the only thing i noticed, and he plays a pretty interesting part :)

Best superhero movie, mainly because there wasnt a story you had to match it up to. No long time fans to piss and moan about "in issue 273 it was actually DESTROY-O who knocked down the building, not UPTHEBUTT MAN!"

Some reviews have complained about the first half being somewhat slow...and thats what i like to call time for character building. The story isnt just the dad getting in trouble and the family rescuing him, its about how the family works while being repressed (que Holy Grail phrase) as regular people.
Wow, it was actually good?

Maybe i'll see it after all.
What Pixar movie hasn't been good?

My girlfriend just picked up the soundtrack for me (god i love her) and its amazing...too. Reading the booklet it said they actually recorded the orchestra using analog, to get that old jazz/big band sound...it worked.

Why wouldn't it be good? Are you going through that "I'm a young teenager so I can't like anything that might be remotely kiddy" phase? I see that happen far too often. I thought it sounded great from the moment I heard about it. Iron Giant is one of my favorite movies, so I trusted Brad Bird, and Craig T. Nelson rocked as Coach.

Finding Nemo. I dislike both Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres and on top of that it was a snore fest. I fell asleep 20 minutes into the movie

I enjoyed Nemo, but its probably tied for least favorite Pixar movie with "A Bug's Life"...and thier new short "Boundin" you'll see before the movie. Looks great, otherwise retarded...kids'll like it though.

Oh, and as a warning, the Star Wars trailer was not attached to thr print when sent to theaters, so you may see it with another film, or it may not be on all prints of Incredibles. Check first.

Finding Nemo was awesome, Albert Brooks is awesome (writer, actor, director), but sometimes his characters can get annoying (they are intended to be annoying but likeable, sometimes they just miss), and Ellen Degeneres is awesome. You are, of course, entitled to your opinions, I just strongly disagree with them.

It's more of a Disney in-joke than a Pixar one, but Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (two of the "Nine Old Men") are in the movie for a scene.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm going to as soon as I can. It's sounding better and better to me...

I jsut saw this movie and man is it awesome. One of the best movies ever. Ever... Kickass voice acting, awesome animation and a cool storyline. I'm hoping for sequels. Oh and Shrek can suck it.

I just came back from seeing it again. I might see it again tommorow. So perfect.

It actually went quicker the second time through...and you really do learn the characters after the first viewing. The little facial nuances really show the second time through.

And im sorry, but Jason Lee fucking rocks...the even have his manerisims. I was half waiting for Syndrome to offer Mr. I a chocolate covered pretzel

Yeah I too am a Jason Lee fan. I think I may see it again tomorrow.

This looks okay. I agree that Nemo sucked though. I can't stand Ellen Degeneres. I don't know about anyone else, but it really bothers me when I know who the voice of the character is.

Well, if you look real close it bears a striking similarity to 'Watchmen' by Alan Moore but more kiddie... a 'Watchmen' for kids if you will... If I said any more it'd probably be considered a spoiler

A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc. Didn't see Finding Nemo but I'd bet money that I wouldn't like that one either.

My mom will get 2 free tickets for Incredible. It the movie that good? If it is good then I guess I should go watch it.

Um, no? Don't discriminate against me just because I'm younger then you? I saw Polar Express and thought it was good ;). But yeah, I wasn't too impressed with Monsters Inc, and this one kinda just looked pretty damn lame, IMO, when I saw the commercials. But I guess I'll see it eventually if it's "that good".

If you have any appreciation of superheroes and/or spy movies, this movie will appeal to you. Hell you may not need even that. I saw it again today. Still awesome.

i saw the incredibles it was the shit
the best part......
was during the mini "short" before the movie with the owl poping out of the hole in the ground goin hoot hoot hoot

"Teenagers and adults without children made up around 1/3 of the audience"

It made 70.7 million over the weekend, making it the Highest grossing Pixar film (first weekend), and 2nd overall (first weekend) behind Shrek 2.
Im currious on how much this movie can make, and what kind of staying power it has.

I'll admit im probably a bit too addicted to the film (saw it for a 3rd time yesterday), but it truly is the best superhero film to date (Superman not-withsatnding...maybe).

I was very disappointed with this in theatres but once I saw it again i liked it. Not the best but prety good.

Someone help me out. I actually looked into this somewhat this morning.

Arent there two major CG animators (for cartoon/movies) out right now?

I knew pixar but i thought another one was out there.....

And what happened between Disney and Pixar?

You're probably thinking of Dreamworks SKG (they stand for Spielberg, Katz, and Geffen) the company Stephen (or is it Steven?) Spielberg made. It's responsible for hits such as Shrek and Shrek 2. I think they're coming out w/ a new animation called Robots w/ Ewan McGregor as the lead. It looks llike like an animated version of the Tin Woodsman from the Wizard of Oz. And as for the dispute between Disney and Pixar, Pixar was under contract to do features exclusively for Disney until 2006 or 7 but they wanted out since Disney retains all the rights to the characters and stories under that contract even though the characters were all created pretty much by Pixar

This is probably too obvious to mention, but the Incredibles and the villain (trying to avoid spoilers here) seem to be heavily based on the Fantastic Four (plus Quicksilver) and Doctor Doom.

I was considering t during the film, and by the end I was wondering if the Mole Man would show up, just like at the end of the first Fantastic Four comic.

Mr. Incredible = The Thing
Mrs. Incredible = Mr. Fantastic
Dash = Quicksilver
Daughter whose name I've forgotten = The Invisble Woman

And I'll not talk about the baby out of respect for spoiling, but if you know the other member of the Fantastic Four you know what his powers are.

Cheers,

SPOILERS HERE!!!!

It felt like a cross between watchmen, and fantastic four. I love the homage to FF at the end of the movie, with essentially mole man coming up from the ground.

I dug how they made the invisible girl reall introverted, a good character trait for someone who can just dissappear. It reminded me of an interesting broadcast of "this american life", where this guy did a study asking people whether they would prefer to have the ability to be invisible, or be able to fly, and then deduced what that can say psychologically about that person. You can hear the broadcast if you go to www.thisamericanlife.com . do a search for "superpowers" and it should be the first thing that comes up.

cant wait to see what rip off version Dreamworks comes up with:

"A Super's Tale"? "the fantastics"? "Superfamily"?

Its not finding nemo. Lets put it this way, this is the first Pixar movie written and Directed by someone not employed by pixar

I thought this EXACT same thing after seeing the previews. And the name: Incredibles - Fantastic, it's too obvious NOT to be bordering on copyright infringement.

Funny you say this - Violet's voice is done by Sarah Vowell, who is a frequent contributor to "This American Life", and a kick-azz author...and she rocked it. Violet was one of the best parts of the movie.

Go see the movie...you'll understand why it is its own beast. Like any movie, let alone comic book film, it does take other peoples ideas and runs with them

I saw it yesterday, and it was (ugh) INCREDIBLE. Pixar has some of the most talented animators I've ever seen. The Dash action scene in the jungle was breathtaking.

Great movie, but Saying it's not the best superhero film, that would have to be Spider-Man 2 (IMO)

BTW Pixar has a 50/50 thing going on with me, as in I hated half of their films, while liking the other half. Much better the Dreamworks pics with, the exception of the 2 Shrek films, have all sucked.

2 other things of note...the jungle floor was actually textured and covered in grass and small plants (INSANE detail) and the flying spinning blade machines actually cut and affected the surroundings (thats a hard thing for a cgi film)

To me pixar has always delivered. I've liked all of them. The shrek movies will everntually be old and stale but the pixar movies will last much longer. It's not the best super hero movie ever but it's close to the top.

It really didn't feel like a kids movie at all. My favorite line that you have listen closley is...

MINOR SPIOLER

when the goons are watching the robot attack the city.
"take a shot every time they run"

I thought that line was hilarious because it's suposed to be a kids movie and the goons are thinking up drinking games.

Yeah, I was one of the few in the theater that got that. Another one of my favorite lines is "You need to be more... flexible". This is the kind of stuff you really hope your kids won't understand.

It wasnt a kids movie, they never said it was. Its a family movie, like shrek, but without the over the top inuendos.

I just like the fact he caught the cork

I just saw the Incredibles today. Awesome movie, one of the best I've seen this year. I would see it again if I had the opportunity. Definitely recommended.

The waterfall and mansion scene were breathtaking. Props goes to the architect and whoever helped to design those.

I loved the personality of Edna. Did anybody else find her to be hilarious?

Im kind of dissapointed that national treasure (a movie i have yet to see) is making more money than The Incredibes right now....but it still doing VERY good. Take a look at boxofficemojo for some day-to-day reports
