In February 2003, Motassadeq became the first person anywhere to be convicted of involvement in the attacks, and was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

But he appealed and won a retrial after a higher court ruled that potentially important evidence from captured al Qaeda leaders had not been made available to the trial.

How in the hell do you only get sentenced to 15 years in jail initially for aiding and abetting the 9/11 hijackers? Anyone who had anything to do with this attack in any way should lose their right to breathe free air ever again.

Agreed.

Heard a case about a 'hate crime' where a couple of Christian kids beat up a Satanist high school classmate of theirs. The battery would have gotten like 8 months, but because it was a 'hate crime,' they can get up to 15 years. So if you're going to beat someone up, just beat them up and steal their shoes, that's not as bad as beating them up because you disagree with them.

"Hate Crimes" are idiotic.

Ah-yup. I always thought this was the 'Land of the Free' where you could think what you want. Is it harming the Satanist if the Christians think worse of him merely for being a satanist? Now, *acting* upon that feeling is different, but then the action should be the crime, not the thinking.

Hate Crimes themselves aren't 100% idiotic, just like 98%. :)

It's the way they are set up that is the problem, like most government things. If I kill someone because they are straight it won't be a hate crime, but if he kills me then it is. That doesn't make sense. If you kill someone because they are different than you it should be a hate crime.

But if it's a hate crime so what? If the system made any sense anyways then the murder would stay in jail for life anyways and there would be no need for hate crimes.

Yep. Try telling someone who had a loved one murdered by someone of the same race/religion/etc. that the crime wasn't a "hate crime".

That has to be one of the most ironic things I have ever heard.
