X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Gen. Discussion & Info

I'll be renting this once it's 2 months old. Gotta love free rentals for being an employee of BBV. Doesn't seem like it's worth a buy, but it looks like there's a lot of fun to be had with this game.

The videos I've seen look pretty damn sweet. Would really like to see a demo for it.

I believe the demo comes out Friday.

6.9 from IGN.AU

I wonder if the GameStop Exclusive Weapon X Arena is actually exclusive or if its a code that everyone can use :whistle2:k

I pre-ordered at Gamestop.
It's a unique scratch off code so think of it like the Res Evil DLC.
It's on every disc but you need to download a "patch" to open it up.
So, I don't think non Gamestop copies will get it unless they offer it as DLC for everyone.

Now, the exclusive Best Buy costume, I have no idea if that is the same deal.

I played about 3 hours last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is not a 6.9 game. I fully expect reviews to average in the 80-85 range. Typical Raven quality. As far as 360 action games go Wolverine is significantly better than Conan and is right there with Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry. I think the one thing reviewers may struggle with is how to rate this given that RE5 just came out and it averaged an 85. That will probably force reviews a little lower than they would have been if this has released before RE5.

Personally I liked what I've played so far more than Conan, DMC4, NG2 or The Force Unleashed. I'm probably a little biased because I loved X-Men Legends 1&2 and MUA (I have no trouble pointing out flaws in Activision games like Web of Shadows which I did not like). What I loved was the even difficulty, smooth camera and the fact that I didn't get stuck at all. It was just fun to play and there wasn't any frustration, but at the same time it wasn't a cakewalk. There's a fine balance there that a lot of games have trouble finding.

How much does this follow the movie? a lot of movie games don't really follow the movies well. I ask because I plan on getting this tomorrow but not seeing the movie 'til the weekend. Will it spoil much if I start playing before I see the movie?

In the 3 hours I played I didn't see anything that I would consider a spoiler. It was all stuff that's just general knowledge if you're even a casual X-Men fan. The game is supposed to be 10-12 hours so I'm sure you can play for awhile before reaching any spoilers. That is assuming that it is even possible to spoil the movie.

Thanks for the info

While some people don't like the repetitiveness, there are some glowing reviews of the demo on Neogaf:

“Wow, the demo was better then I thought it would be.”

“Holy shit. I just got done playing the demo. I said wow.”

“Take that IGN Australia!”

“Just got finished playing the demo here afterhours at work. A crowd formed in our conference room. Many "WOW"s and "Holy SHIT"s were heard throughout, especially the chopper pilot finisher. The game is extremely fun and brutal, definitely recommend trying it.”

“I am fucking FLOORED by this... just WOW......SOLD.”

“As someone who doesn't like God of War-esque action games, I have to say that the demo completely sold me on this game. In between combat areas I just sat there and watched the real-time flesh regeneration, it's so disgustingly awesome. Definitely a buy, bravo Raven.”

If you have any interest at all you should definitely check out the demo.

I think I said all of those things playing the demo lol.

Very cool surprise tonight. After the epic fail that was marvel vs capcom 2 demo, this is a bright spot in my internet day. DOWNLOAD FASTER!

I've put in a few hours in the full game and its a very solid game! It is def the first movie based game to get the full blown 5 star treatment and it shows......

Just got done playing the demo and I'm blown away. Very solid game with a TON of "Wow!" moments. I'm this close to a purchase, just not at full price. Great game though!

Yeah, I won't be buying this at full price mainly because I can't afford EVERY game and there's other stuff I want more. But for anyone who is gonna buy this at full price, they definitely won't be disappointed.

Woah woah woah woah woah. Hold the phones.

Did I just play a extremely violent and pretty badass Wolverine MOVIE game? I must be dreaming. First a good Batman game, then a good Wolverine game...next your going to tell me the Ghostbusters game is super legit.

Back when 99% of games based off of movies sucked my wallet wasn't so empty...

I hope they have some trade in deals for this one. It's out right?

Yeah, this demo was great. I had high hopes that Raven would deliver since they haven't done a bad game yet, and they did more than deliver. This is exactly what a Wolverine game should be. I haven't had that much fun slicing and dicing bad guys since NG2. Hopefully between this and Arkham Asylum, comic book games will finally be able to show how great they can be.

Game is excellent, I'm a few hours deep into it and it hasn't gotten boring at all, love that you can upgrade your skills. I got the 2 classic costumes, looks pretty cool but Logan look seems more fitting. Also the Gamestop Weapon X Arena is totally awesome, they have ladder challenges, dismemberment rooms, and custom rooms where you can choose what enemies to fight against.

I'll give the demo a play, I watched the gametrailers review earlier I am pretty suprised how violent/gory the game is. I thought Marvel/Activision (I think) would of of toned it down more to fit a wider audience.

But thank God that they didn't because it adds so much to the gameplay and the experience as a whole. This is the Wolverine that you've seen in comics, the way that we always wanted to see him. The first CGI intro when you start the game is also quite a sight to behold

The PS2/Wii version is the toned down version. X360 and PS3 versions are for the big boys.

One thing to note is that the classic Wolverine costume that Best Buy claims is exclusive to them...is not. They probably let you use it at the start of the game but you can definitely unlock it as you progress through the game and find the 2 action figures.

Raven software might make a Deadpool (comic) game next...

The developers behind X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Raven Software, are anxious to try their hands at another Marvel character, Deadpool. The slapstick, loud-mouthed mercenary would be the perfect subject for a new game, Wolverine project lead Dan Vondrak told UGO. Vondrak says Raven Software loves Deadpool and his "smartass attitude."

Vondrak says that if the company is able to pursue a new project starring Deadpool, it would be the Deadpool from comics and not the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. We don't have to tell you how comforting that thought is. We're imagining a game like Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, but, you know, decent.
