Hello CAG,

I am looking for advice and thoughts on my situation. I currently have an arcade unit, purchased January of last year, which is coupled with a 20 GB hard drive. While the console itself has not given me any problems, the hard drive is pretty much limping with around 1-2 GB's left and there is a lot of DLC and arcade games that I have been meaning to purchase recently. What I have been thinking of doing was either buying a new 250 GB hard drive (est. $129) or a new console. The console I had in mind was the Final Fantasy XIII bundle on Amazon currently selling at $250, a good price might I add. The reason I am considering even getting a new console is because my arcade unit has some milage on it and has been getting very extensive use these past couple of weeks by me and some friends, so I don't know how much longer it would last until it starts giving me some problems.

So I'd like to hear opinions, advice, other solutions, etc. on what you would do (or not do).

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm about to get my old 360 back from Microsoft, but it's been sent back 3 times now, so I'm pretty sure I want a new one. The FF13 bundle is pretty tempting. I could sell the game and 1 of the controllers with my old 60 (plus some of the games I don't play) to cover the cost of upgrading.

I think the FF13 bundle (or similar Splinter Cell bundle) is a pretty good way to go if you're looking to upgrade. Seems like Dell always steps it up with a good price match and coupon, which may save you another $20-30.

One other option I'd toss out there to consider, which is the way I ended up going, is purchasing through Costco. You would pay a little more than Amazon/Dell (just a hair under MSRP), but the warranty and piece of mind was worth every penny. I recently traded and upgraded my old Elite for one of the new S/Slim models without any hassle. It's "lifetime satisfaction" and as long as you don't go nuts and abuse, it pretty much covers you for the rest of this console generation. (btw, the new systems are ridiculously quiet and sport the new harddrive setup which they'll probably use from here out).

Why not just get a HDD? (btw I am selling one on my trade list) Your system is barely a year ago so it doesnt make a lot of sense to get rid of it, epically since it is a Jasper.

I would just get a hard drive on amazon, you usually find them pretty cheap. I got one there and it worked fine. Your system is not broken so why get another one, unless it is acting up like not loading the game which is a prelude to the red rings, trust me :(

I bought a used launch 360 from a friend in 1/07 and used a fan stand with it religiously. It finally RRoD'd on Super Bowl Sunday 09 but was out of the 3yr warranty period, plus I had opened it to clean dust out of the fans and dvd drive. Then had a refurb Halo 3 edition (2007) which RRoD after a month but ran amazingly well this past year after Microsoft serviced it, which is saying a lot because I logged 100s if not 1000s of hours on it, between games and Netflix, due to being currently unemployed.

I have a 120gb HDD that I've used for 2yrs and have been meaning to sell if you're interested in going the HDD upgrade route.

Thanks for the advice from all of you, I think I'm going to go with sealionnn's (sorry to hear about your Xbox situation) suggestion of selling the old unit to cover the cost of the new one. Appreciate the thoughts.
