Simple question ... who do you know of that is already taking pre-orders for these systems?

I do know Game Crazy stores in the area are doing so (Cincinnati), but I'm curious of whom else and what others are saying as of right now.

Well, I'm sure any retailer would take a $100 or $50 deposit knowing it will be a decent chunk towards a new system, so I'm sure there are people wanting to get in, and retailers wanting some bucks.

Gamestop is taking pre-orders at $50 for Xbox 360. I was told that the one store I was at was only getting 13 total and 10 pre-orders were already taken. Another GS had over 70 pre-orders for their 20 or so 360s.

I think I'm going to wait until the 360 has been around for a while before I sink $300+ into a new system. With 200+ new games coming out for Xbox, I can wait.

I call BS.

Stores are allocated orders when the ship dates nears, not after the system is announced. Gamestop likes to use the threat of "you're not getting a system cause we're only getting 20" so they get your cash ASAP.

There will be enough to go around if you pre-order. Look at Halo 2. You can STILL get collectors editions.

Seriously. This is why I hate working at GS. I remember the days when game stores did not try to forcefeed you BS whenever you walk in the door...

You know Sony was quoted today as saying the PS3 would be less than 50,000 yen which is close to $500?

I'm willing to bet you the PS3 and Xbox360 launch at $400 and the Revolution comes in at $200.

It is far to early to actually know anything. If a store is taking a deposit fine, one will be on a reserve to buy list. There are no offical prices or shecdules at this time for either system.

If the ps3 is quoted at approx $500, and the psp is priced cheaper in japan then it was in the US, why would it only come out at $400? I also don't msft will have the system at that price point...I loved the tech demo's of the ps3, but I think they might have priced themselves out of the casual gamer market, which they have so far dominated..

Yea anything over $300 I will not give a second look. one of the reason I did not pick up a xbox at release was the price of the unit, and the games were 59.99 in some stores around me. at that time it was to much, now I believe that 300 is okay for a console it is not what I want to pay I would like to pay about 200 or 250 but I will live with 300. with the xbox being a well hidden computer. how soon is it till they start releasing better ones every year. consoles will turn into computers. you finally can afford one. so you go and enjoy it for 2-3 months and then it is outdated. and there is a new updated one. or I am waiting for the consoles, to be upgradeable like computers. game look like crap, well lil johnny add a stick of ram. however these changes I do not see for some time, I mean it took 25+ years of gaming for us to get wireless controllers stock.

Look at the N64 with the "expansion pack." Upgradeable memory. I would expect consoles to keep very tight reins on the upgrade factor. With PCs there are too many variables to make one game consistent. That's the advantage of consoles. I could see upgrading storage (as is proposed with PS3 and 360) but everything else starts to make it difficult to keep uniformity with each new game.

I just preordered at the Gamestop today. You need to put $50 down, and they're going to stop taking them on Friday. However, you're guaranteed to get it on launch day, probably at midnight. And none of this bundle BS.

I work at EB and we are taking preorders for Xbox 360, stores have been doing it for awhile actually. At first it was a $20 deposit, but it changed to $50 on Monday. Each store is different, but we were told we have to cut our preorders off at 24. Will that number change? Maybe, but we were still told to only take 24 preorders.

I'm surprised no one else has said anything but this is the wrong forum for this thread...more like Deal Discussion forum.

edit: thanks to whoever moved it.

Flat out, why would you pre-order something that doesn't have a set price point? Besides, NONE of these stores have ANY idea how many systems they will be guaranteed at launch day. I, for one, would wait. Look at what happened with PSP. Everyone said they would sell out everywhere. However, every store I walked into on launch day had PLENTY of PSP's on the shelf. My suggestion is to save your money. Put that $50 in the bank and make some interest on it while we wait for the launches. No sense in letting someone ELSE hang onto your money for you!!!

Hell, why would anyone want to pre-order anything that doesn't even have a definiative street date on it. Yeah we got "sometime around fall 2005" but come on.... let's wait until there is a more concrete date - along with a known launch price before we even get worried about pre-orders folks.

You guys pre-ordering already are nuts. You're just buying into the chain stores scheme to seperate you and your money as quickly as possible. These consoles were just announced, there's no definitive release date, no definitive price, and definitly no definitive allocation numbers.

I agree, like I said its really stupid to even think about pre-ordering when there is not even a freakin street date or even price for any of these three.

Common sense folks... common sense.

Some people just want to have that "I've got mine preordered" line ready....

(The only one I will be preordering is the Revolution, and I won't be doing that for quite some time.)

There's no way they are going to stop taking them on Friday. Not only does the top store maybe have like 25, but that's jist bad business.

As it went with PSP, we took reservations until the day before the system came out. We got the systems in a bit early, saw how many extra we had, then took reservations up until that number.

Even though I worked in one of the highest reserve stores in the company for the PSP, we still had about 20 extra on launch night. We couldn't keep the games in stock, but the systems we had all through the weekend.

Should you reserve? Yes, but you don't have to do it right now. Save the 50 bucks and buy a game.

Well that is the reason there are consoles. So that everyone has the same equipment. The cycle has always been around 4-5 years. This is totally normal. It's time for new systems to come out. And now they will be more powerful than PCs!
