CAGiversary!
Hey guys,

I'm looking to get something that pays quite a bit more then my current job this summer once I'm out of Univ. for 4-Months, and am trying to get a feel for how much Grocery Stockers & What-not make. I'm also considering just a general stocking position and/or unloading trucks (I'm a big guy).

I've heard some people say its about $12-$15/hour, but not sure how close that is. Also what hours do you generally work? I'm guessing like 10PM to 4AM? Give or take some?

Thanks :)

Stockers make good money. I worked at SafeWay for 2 months and made $8.50 an hour during a promo period. If i decide to work there again i can do w/e and make ~$7.50 an hour. I'd imagine i'd make ~9 an hr stocking.

I did Costco Stocking for my first three months there and I worked from 3AM-10AM usually. I started out at $10 an hour, so it wasn't too bad. The hours disagreed with my body however, but it allowed me to get my foot into Costco. If you find a place where you make $12-15 an hour, prob a good idea to take that, but being that I'm in a state with one of the highest minimum wage, and the $10 is higher than that, I dunno. Good luck in whatever you do.

I used to do that stocking and grocery bullcrap. Its a waste of life and should be trying to do better with your life. The unions continue to hurt the earning of the average worker, and combine that with their pathetic fees and all that crap, makes me not understand why its even worth it anymore.

Stocking 3rd shift, is the best paying job normally in a department store, grocery etc.

When I worked at walmart they were going to pay me $9 an hour to work 3rd shift stocking electronics or $6.85 working 2nd shift. The people who worked as stockers 3rd shift started at $10 a hour. They worked 10pm-7am that includes 1 hour lunch and 2-15min breaks

My girlfreind worked at wal mart for a good period of time. most people at wal mart out here get paid more then grocery store jobs. Whats most sad about this is everyone spends time bitching that wal mart is the root of all evil in this country, where it really appears that the blame should be placed elsewhere.

Before I got started here at the University, I would work 3rd Shift hours at the "new" (back then it was new) Wal-Mart near my home. I did the 10-7 thing with two of my buddies during my Freshman and Sophmore year at school.

10 bucks an hour, 1 hour "Lunch" (We usually just played Video Games) and breaks. Wasn't so bad :)

I don't think you understand what walmart does that is "evil"

Forgot to mention, I'm in the Southeast.

But yah, past couple summer jobs have been fairly lame IE Max $8/hour, so looking to make a bit more this summer.

I figure worked crap shifts doesnt matter if it pulls in a bit more cash.

Wow their profit margins are lower then anywhere else. big deal. I worked at safeway and they are a shaq fuing rip off. Hours Cut by the week for everyone, then the hours when we all got hours wed have to pay ludicris union dues.

Safeway would do crap like put an item thats normally 2.29 on sale 2 for 5 and everyone would flock and buy it. Taking advantage of stupidity. Smart, but "evil" rite ?
