You know Demon's Souls could pull off one nasty April Fools prank...

Leave the game as is and tell them the difficulty has been pumped up. And when people say it's a lie, pump up the monsters strength times a hundred and make it so they only give one soul each.
 
Change the world white and make everyone attack you at once. Spawn Red Knights after everytime you kill something.

take out all check points so you have to replay an entire level when you die and take off a percentage of your HP until you kill a boss
