It's in stores today. Anyone played it yet and care to share their opinion?

(I'll be picking it up today regardless, but I just wanted to see what the general populace thought of it.)

I'm getting it next week. I'm sure it's great, and even if people hate it, I'm buying it anyways.

I've been waiting for an RPG like this since Arc the Lad TOTS came out.

So Arc the Lad:TOTS is good? Sorry to hijack, but I just bought it for 10 because it had reasonably good reviews. What can I expect from it?

Well, not every one thinks it's good. But I do and I loved it.

The fighting system is great, Story is good, but even better if you've played the other Arc the Lads. And the diffrent point of views, first I was thinking humans are the good guys, then the Deimos (Human/ Monsters) then humans again.

The only bad thing I think is the fact their isn't much exploration.

im MIGHT pick this up today if someone can give me a good reason to fork over 30 dollars and 2 CC games for it.....

4-player fighting RPG! Yeah!

Video review is up on gamespot. I am going to buy this today I think, hopefully some of my CC games will help make it more cheapass friendly.

Yeah, really. That's probably my biggest reason for getting it. I'm picking it up today.

Ok guys..

I just picked up my copy of Tales of Symphonia today (ironically, the Art Book wasn't there yet). I must say, it is a breath of fresh air. After playing through games like Arc the Lad ToS and even FFX, this game is a nice change. First off, the graphics and cell shading are quite nice (except the overworld). The characters are designed well and the voice acting is pretty good too. Overall, it has a fairly classic RPG feel (which I like). But the clincher is the fighting system. THIS is where it really gets fun. Battles aren't a chore.. they are actually enjoyable!

Now I've only played maybe 2 hours so far... the story so far is a little cliched for RPG's, but not bad. Besides, its the great gameplay that makes this a great game to buy. The back of the case says it has over 80 hours of gameplay... sheesh!

Overall, if you liked any of the other Tales games, buy this one. If you enjoy classic RPG's, you'll like TOS. And if you are sick of turn-based fighting, check this one out!

Thanks for your input dj. Now I'm looking foward to it even more. I just picked up a copy, but I'm saving it to play with friends. Do you get four characters right away, or do some of my friends have to sit and watch for a bit?

i went to pick my pre-order up today, but unfortunately, they didn't have the bonus items yet :(

i traded in some crappy cd's that my friend gave me and ended up paying only $3 out of my pocket! :) oh yea, i also used the coupon for $10 off TOS (it was inside the eb quarterly ad)! i was surprised i was able to use it :p
wait...u dont have to play it with four players do u? id rather play it one or two player
One player but can be "multiplayer" for the battles. You friends can control the other characters if you wish to do so.

I have the game right now but I don't have time to play it yet.

I havent heard about the game until yesterday...

*Puts this game on most wanted games list.*

My most wanted games list is:

Skies of Arcadia : Legends
Disgaea : Hour of Darkness
La Pucelle : Tactics
and now... Tales of Symphonia!!!

You actually start off with 3 characters, but get a fourth right away. Granted, there's the typical RPG story build-up before you even fight.. but its not drawn out. Right now I'm down to two characters though... (2 hours into it). I haven't even tried multiplayer yet. I may do that tonight...

It took a while for me to figure out how to use the multiplayer, but once I did, my friends and I were having a ball. My only complaint is that the camera follows 1st player only during battles. That can leave all of your partners off the screen, randomly slashing and casting magic on characters they can't see. And relying on your friends to heal you is somewhat annoying, so I recommend when playing multi (unless there's four of you) to leave Raine(sp?) controlled by the comp.

I went to 9 stores to find this game T_T The clerk at Target put it out 1 minute before I got there this afteroon, and they only recieved 4. The GameCrazy I went to only recieved 4 as well. Every other store was sold out or didn't recieve any. Anyway I've played it for about 90 minutes and it's really fun. I only heard about this game 2 days ago, too.

I'm having fun with it so far.

I've been enjoying the semi-non-lineary story line. What I mean is that you think the story is going one way and then it branches off for a quick second and just when you think it's back on the main path, the side story becomes the basis for the main story.

Confused?

The combat is fun, a little bit on the button mashing side though, but I've only fought the first handful of bosses. (4 hours into the game)

The graphics are cel, and similiar to Wild Arms 3. The voice overs are decent, a little on the weak side.

It's humor and quality is on the La Pucelle side. Not as loveable as Disgaea, though. Strangely, like Disgaea and unlike most other RPG's, I like the male lead more than the female lead.

Makes me think that Star Ocean 2 and La Pucelle had a lovechild, and this is it.

All in all, I agree with dj, it's a breath of fresh air and is in itself a good rpg and a good game overall. I would have paid the $40 for it (as I did with Disgaea and La Pucelle), but I got it as a bday present.

I have a question. In ToD 1&2 you have to equip the channeling rings to let another person play as that character, but in ToS can other players jump in at anytime? I would have bought this at launch, but no point to because I have so many other games to play right now. I will definately get it eventually though because the two ToD's were some of my favorite psx games.

Just keep pounding away at him till he dies, block all his attacks and heal often , i had trouble it took me 3 to 4 times to deafeat him.
Exploration is a little easy and dull and the puzzles require no thinking whats so ever but the battles kick ass
P.S. Why is Gold called Gald??????????

Ok I'm really stuck now if someone can help me out. I've already completly explored Triet and gone to the fortune teller and everything but once I leave Triet I can't figure out where to go next. I've gone to the Triet Ruins but there's nothing to do there, then it looks like I'm supposed to go in the Sylvarant Base but whenever I go in it will say " A sandstorm! Let's get out of here!" Where do I go?

Okay, when you get your fifth character, how do you choose them to join in the battle and let one of your other character's sit out?
how do u play 2player in battle? Whenever I just have my friend pick up a controller in a battle he cant control.
You have to go to the 'Tech' menu and switch the controls over to 'manual' for the character you want to control.
Okay, when you get your fifth character, how do you choose them to join in the battle and let one of your other character's sit out?
Open up the main menu and hit the control stick down till you get to the list of characters. Use the 'Y' button to swap between characters.

yeah, me too. but i suppose thats if you collect EVERYTHING (monster info, recipes, etc). i barely did any of that, i just wanted to finish the game quick.

It's been pretty much confirmed that the PS2 version will come stateside...just thought all the PS2 only owners may like to know.

Yeah it's a long wait but if the rumors about Tales of Rebirth and Tales of Destiny releases coming around the same time are true then I'll let it slide.

You know what game this reminds me of a little bit? Landstalker! And that's a good thing, as it's the last action RPG I enjoyed. The fighting system makes all the difference, it actually turns Tales of Symphonia into a game instead of a walkthrough or movie. Great fun so far. :D

I don't know why but this game was not my cup of tea and I'm a fan of action RPGs. I found the battle system to be pure button mashing and the plot was pretty lackluster (I only made it to about 2 hours in).

It was a GameFly rental so I've already sent it back. I've got way too many other games to play right now so maybe I was just distracted by the number of choices I have. I may add it back to my queue in a few months and try it again.

I'd own it alreayd if they had a copy in KY....i rented it for (ended up being $15!) 2 days....loved playing it with a friend...
