I like this a bit better :

I got it at Sears. I think Sears has it between $3-$20. I got it for $3. For $10 its good. I dont understand why so many people jump on this for $30-$50. Its plastic and once u put it together, u cant take it apart. It does what it needs to well.
FYI- DO NOT MOVE CONSOLE WHILE ON WITH GAME DISC INSIDE BECAUSE IT MAY DAMAGE DISC.
Now, what is better, standing the xbox slim up on the bottom or laying it flat? Pro vs Cons. I dont know which is better and hope other CAG here could give feedback. Im sure others have the same question too.
It's going to be debated but from my personal opinion... the OG design has a slight benefit of sitting vertical for ventilation at least. You can get around this for horizontal use by adding extra rubber pegs on the underside of the system, or placing it on some sort of grill style rack to allow air to the vents underneath. (If you have a little extra room where it's setting, I'd recommend a cooling rack from a cooking store. One that's metal and not plastic coated, though.) Then again, it's hard to tell how much it'll help as they're flawed out the ass to begin with.
As for the Slim, the benefit seems to far moreso to horizontal which is better for the discs in either instance. Again with the Slim, you want as much airspace as possible above the unit where that huge honking fan is especially if you don't have central air or even an AC in your room like me.
I stuck my Slim when I got it in my Entertainment Center's little VCR/DVD shelf that's walled on the sides and with the top being part of the roof (so it's only open in the front and back). I felt it after having it on 30-60 minutes and the underside of the roof was warm as all hell so I cleaned off the shelving I set on the roof for games and set it there so it has about 3 feet of space up to the ceiling. (If you absolutely must have shelves and stuff above it, I personally wouldn't go less than a foot above the top of the fan.)
I talked to a friend on XBL afterwards and he said he took his digital cooking thermometer to the top of his slim as he noticed his was warm too and it read 160F. (Which is hot enough to fry an egg, at least theoretically... it's also right around the proper internal temperature to kill off just about any dangers in pork, beef, etc.)
