So I have been an avid supported of the Zune and am still trying to hold out against the iPod. My 80gb died a few months ago however and now I am mp3-less.

It has been driving me crazy to say the least.

It appears my HDD is busted (error code 5)

I kind of just want to get a different unit but I would be down with replacing the HDD myself if I could get it for super cheap.

Scouring the web I forgot how insanely expensive they are. Seeing as I am out of a job and living back home I do not have a bunch of cash to drop on this. I was hoping someone knew of somewhere cheaper that I am not looking for either the Zune itself or the parts.

I finally had my 1st gen 30gb HDD go on me a couple of months back. I bought a lot of 10 various untested/as-is drives off ebay and successfully replaced mine for under $20. Doing so, I somehow managed to kill the battery, so I replaced that as well for under $10.

The lot was not guaranteed, but I was confident I could get 1 to work. Plus, you are ultimately protected by ebay/paypal if you go that route.

Long live the Zune!!
