Hey fellow northern VA CAG's!

stores closing in NORTHERN VA are
Alexandria
Fairfax (ITDEFX) (Hoffgod)
Vienna (GenDV138)
Woodbridge (FRAUD_WHATS_THAT)

Week 1:
Fairfax
Up to 20% off store wide. 10% software, including video games. 10% system hardware (wii), 20% PC parts (the sign indicated motherboards and CPUS! but not much on the shelf), 10% off mice and keyboards, 5% off desktop/notebook systems, 10% desktop/notebook memory, 10% off blank media, 10% off LCD tv's, 10% off monitors, 10% off cameras and accessories.

Week 2: March 5-10 *NEW PERCENTAGE INCREASE* 3-8-07 Up to 30% off
ok, most stuff is still at 10%, such as software. No more Wii units or PS3's at this location. Employee reports 12 Premium 360's in stock.
The following are up in percentage
Tech parts 30%
dvd movies 20%
projector screens, NOT PROJECTORS 30%
books 20%
laptop docking stations 20%
networking 15% hmm.... time to go wireless?
Slingbox ? 20%
CPU Power Supplies 30%
CELL PHONES 30%
cables and flat panel accessories 30%

GenDV138 reports the same at the Vienna/TC Store.

Week 2: March 11-17
Fairfax Store
Nothing really changed. Software has increased to 15% off.. Strategy guides are now 30% off!
PC parts (motherboards/CPU) now 30% off

Week 3: March 18-24th
Fairfax Store
Same old same old. Strategy Guides NOW 40% off
Hard drives and most pc game titles are starting to fly off the shelf ! Looks like some fool returned CNC: Generals Zero Hour expansion from BEST BUY, Compusa took it back and put THERE TAG over the BB tag! so if your looking for the zero hour expansion, well its now under 3 bucks! Store employee reports that the store will close within 40 days!

I picked up a few strategy guides for forty some cents! Anyways not much worth buying this week.

Week 4: March 25-31th
Fairfax Store
Same shit again! However they are starting to sell USED cables and hooks. Component cables (used) about 10 bucks (but they are like 12 feet?) Software has been relocated to where the PDA stuff use to be. Apple stuff looks gone.

I got a few items run up, including the guide to bf2142. The book price was 16.99, but it was tagged 19.99! WTF!??!?! It ranged up 19.99 (minus 40% off) so I told the black girl (the only black girl who works at that store) that the printed manufacturer price was 16.99 and she said that's wrong and that the higher TAGGED price (19.99) is correct. So I said screw it and walked out. This is a very bad indication that major percentage increases to major items won't occur til the last 2 weeks. All crappy stuff (small items) will go higher first.

Week 5: April 1st-April 7th
Fairfax Store
Seems like those 10 dollar used cables are gone. PC Game Software seems to be almost non-existent. Plenty of copies of King Kong, CoH. They started putting out used office furniture at ridiculous prices. I can't believe they are trying to sell a used chair that is filthy, with what looks like someone left some dump stains on the chairs while surfing for porn all for 60 bucks!! The desks look decent but too high priced as you will need to put some work into cleaning it. They are starting to sell CompUSA baskets for 5 bucks and the register lights for 40 (wtf is going to buy that?!?!)
There seems to be a good stock of stuff, including video games. The store is getting messy. I ranged up BF2142 again and once again it ranged up 19.99 over its Publisher printed price of 16.99! When I asked about it, the cashier said "Sometimes CompUSA will charge MORE over the MSRP!" Isn't there a law out there that says you can't charge over the MSRP?
Percentages seem to be the same again.

Week 7: April 22rd-28th

Thanks to hostyl1 for the update

Fair Oaks (Fairfax): Games and accessories 25% off. Sign says its the last 14 days. They had a handfull of PSP premium packs.

Potomac Mills (Woodbridge): Games and accessories 25% off. Still some Oblivions and Crackdowns left.

Tysons Corner (Vienna): Games and accessorices 25% off. Not a great selection. There was one 12 +1 Live membership as off Friday.

Landmark (Alexandria): 25% off as well but it's pretty much wrap for console games. Some PC games left, but nothing that stood out.
happy hunting!

Week 9: April 22-28 (sorry I skipped Week 8)

Fairlakes:30-60% off

About 60% of the store is gone! Looked around the store, really not much left. Stragetgy guides are 60% off but not really worth anything. My BF2142 guide that I have been fighting for is gone :(
I was ALMOST sold a Warcraft 3 WITHOUT the GAME :( The cashier (who I forget his name, but you will reconize him because he's old, has an accient and he has deformed hands. Anyways this guy was litterally trying to defend that the box wasn't the game, but in fact a *game card*, yet when I saw the security seal ripped opened, I showed him by opening it up and dumping every thing on the counter and all that fell out was the instruction books. NO CD!!! Then he took it to a manager who just didn't give a fuck and then said wait someone might be able to find one for me, but I didn't care. I said skip it.
I wanted several things rung up to see how much I got off. I had Catz (for my girlfriend) , Scarface, SC:DA Guide, and a game called Malestrom. Malestrom and Scarface came up to a price that didn't warrent purchase but the SC:DA Guide and Catz was an acceptible price to buy, so I told him to take off Malestrom and Scarface. The final total came to 27.xx and doing some quick math in my head, I told him that's impossible for Catz (11.xx) and SC:DA guide (9.xx) to come to 27.XX!!! I told him to just void the transition and start over from scratch and he started arguing with me saying it was the price , he's not lying, the computer isn't lying and so on. I got a little pissed and mummbled no wonder you guys are going out of business. Not only did he heard me, but he said I don't care you can talk to the manager, you can write a letter to the company (like they would care) and so on. So I got even more pissed and told him, you know what I am going to do you a favor and snatched the stuff from his hands and counter and took it to the other register at Customer Service. The manager there said it would be quicker to go to the other guy (the guy I just dealt with) and I told him no because he was giving me so many problems and so on. The new cashier I was dealing with run up Catz and SC: DA guide and the total came to 20.xx!!! The amount I suspected was correct from the start.

The manager confirmed that the last May 7th AND a Micheal's store will be put into it's place. WTF!?!!? The nearest Micheals is about 3 miles away!! Plus the fact that there is a craft store two stores down from that compusa.

Fixtures were 50% for one day only yesterday (april 26) but most of it was junk. Most processors and motherboards are gone. All but a handful of printers are gone. Seems that display cameras (the high end ones) are all that's left with the exception of a few smaller lens camera still in the box.

The store is really messy.

WoW expansion is manager special tagged for 19.99$... plenty of them..but I think it's 19.99 in most places anywhere.

Most PC games and software is GONE. Unless you want lots of CoV/CoH, King Kong. Movies are 40% off but not much left except shitty movies.

I am assuming all xbox, ps2/ps3, wii's, ds, cubes systems are GONE by now. Plenty of games at 30% off though. Accessories are 30% off.

Less then a dozen customers were in the store that day. I don't expect anything to go above 70% before May 7th.

FINAL WEEK

Ok from most reports 80% of the store is now gone :(
Game selections are shitty but at 50-60% off.
Some fatwallet assclowns came in Monday night and BOUGHT ALL VERSIONS OF VISTA using 2000 dollars in cash...WTF?!?!?!!?
Now that's crazy man. This isn't a 360 craze, but a Vista Craze!

Anyways picked up a few things at 50-60% off
Star Wars: Leathal Alliance DS (Last one on shelf yay!)
another DS game
Scarface
60 Pack hp printer 4x5 paper

Some guy got really, really lucky buying a 42 LG tv display model (working). It listed for 1200 bucks, but for some reason after they hit total, it came to 690? instead of 900 bucks. From what I over heard one of the managers was saying someone in the store put in the sku wrong in the system so basically he was getting the tv for 50% off!!! The transaction was taking over 20 minutes. I left before it could be done, but my guess is that with only a few days left, the management MIGHT have given it to him. wow a 42 inch LG widescreen tv for 600 bucks.

Hope everyone here got what they wanted during the final days from this shitty overpriced store closeout. After monday I am calling up CompUSA credit card and cancel it then cutting it up. Thank's to fellow cags for reporting in and helping out.

I'd love to contribute, but I'm realtively new to the area (moved here in August) and have no idea where any of the CompUSA stores are. Could you list the closing locations in the OP and I'll check them out? I'm on spring break from law school, so I'll have plenty of time to check them out for now. Also, we've been talking about this a bit in the DC metro area thread in the NE section.

I live in Richmond...if I was a little closer, I'd be on top of those clearances! Too bad the Richmond store isn't closing (yet), it's in a really out-of-the-way part of town, rarely has sales worth getting in on when compared to BB/CC/online prices, and the videogame selection is usually pretty shitty.

yea that's why the title says NORTHERN VA CompUSA. Seems all the central and southern CompUSA's are staying open in VA. CompUSA could have kept the fairfax store opened. Its in a descent location in a strip mall on the same road as the mall.

Anyways as for the DC Poster, the nearest one to you if I remember correctly is the one near Landmark Mall in Alexandra , which is near dc.

I'd love to help, but the CompUSA near me has already been covered by ITDEFX. Actually stopped in there today and nothing has changed yet.

Hope there are some 360s left when it hits 20-25%. Around $300 for a Premium is right up my alley.

hoffgod I will add your name to the list for the fairfax store. how close are you to it? I am in chantilly , about 15 minutes away off of route 50.

I dunno if getting a 360 now is a good idea as MS just announced a memory upgrade to the 360. Perhaps we will finally see a black 360 ! :)

well i dont live on the east coast, but one of the compusa's at the mall closed, and I think some others are starting too.(i live in CA)
I'll try to check out the Vienna CompUSA this weekend after I'm done with midterms.
ok... you have been added for vienna

I stopped for only a couple minutes at the Tysons CompUSA. The discounts look to be the same percentages as were listed for the Fairfax store. I saw a couple core 360s, but I didn't see any premiums or a DS. Game selection seemed the normal small amount without too much taken so far.

do you want to be added for Tyson's corner Mrplow? That would mean you would need to swing by once a week. Is that cool?

WORD is in the other threads that the next percentage increase is TOMORROW. Will check it out and see what's up.

I probably can't go by that often, but if I happen to stop by, I'll report what I see.

I'm about 5-10 minutes away. I live right near by the intersection of 50 and the Fairfax County Parkway, so it's not that far.
As for the 360, I'm going to hold off. Finances are a bit tight for a 360. Stupid college life and your not making lots of money...

As for being added to the list, I'm on Spring Break, so I can check up until Saturday. Then I'm leaving to college and won't be back up until next Friday. Looks like the burden is still mostly on you, ITDEFX.

I checked Vienna/Tyson's CompUSA, still nothing great. Pretty much the same discounts as Fairfax, 10-30%. Games are still at 10%. Didn't see any 360s, PS3s, or Wiis.

I never said 360's are 20% off. Last time I checked they were still 10%. I think they are going to keep them at 10% for a while to squeeze as much as possible out of it.

I was at the Fairfax store today (one last visit before I go back to college) and everything gaming looked like the markdown was the same.
10% off software, hardware, and accessories. Didn't see a markdown on the guides.

yep, as i reported yesterday :(
Does anybody know the final date they're shutting the stores down?
they are tight lipped about this when asked. Best to keep an open ear when a customer is talking to a CS rep as they sometime let the actual date slip. That happened when I was browsing during the Tower close out.

I never thought to look at the Southeast regional board for NoVA. I just would check out the Northeast Washington DC area threads, but anyhoo... I just stopped by the Alexandria store and is all "up to 40%") Pretty much only magazines, stratagy guides and cell phone assessories are 40%. All game (PC and console) are 15% off as well as 360s and 360 asessories. They had like 2 premium and 4 or 5 core systems out in a locked up cage. There weren't many assesories, but I think there were a handfull of Live membership (didnt check the duration though).

Laptops are still 5% but I beleive the TVs went up to 15%. If you are looking for some slightly older CPU/MoBo combos, those were 30%.

I forgot to look at the movies so that's about all I remember.
cheers!

STILL 20% off :(

Update:
Fairfax one is pretty much wiped of most recent games. You have to go to the right side of the store near where the speaker systems are to find any games, and even then they are all PC.

You can sign me up for the Woodbridge location. I check once-twice a week to keep everyone posted for any deals but most seem like busts. Did pick up a copy of Obilivion LE for fellow CAG "The BOB 101" right before our CAG meetup for like $25 from the Woodbridge location. This was like a week before COMPUSA made the press statement of the store closings.

Thanks guys for the update.

I really think at this point the percentages won't go very high before the stores complete shut down.

Stores will continue to be a mess. I would like to end up picking up some furniture for cheap but will avoid the shit stained chairs. Yea I want a illness for my rear end for 60 bucks!! woot what a deal!

Has anyone started to negotiate with management for the furniture? So far I have not seen *sold* tags on any of them.

for those of you reporting it, please report any bad experiences you are receiving at these stores. I take it the closer we get to close down time, employees are going to be more and more useless. I would like to keep track of how things are going in different stores .

I wonder is anyone even cares about this anymore but anyway:

Fair Oaks (Fairfax): Games and accessories 25% off. Sign says its the last 14 days. They had a handfull of PSP premium packs.

happy huting

thanks for the update my friend! I was just getting so sick of going to fairlakes and seeing the same percentages off over priced stuff.

Nice to know that in two weeks that place is gone.

I was in the Tyson's store on Wednesday and they had a sign for 12 days left, so it should be 10 days left by now. It was 30-50% off. Still a pretty decent amount of 360 and ps2 games. Still had 360 12 month live, 360 controllers. Fixtures were being sold and they had tons of copies of Vista at 40% off. Apparently it takes a little more to sell vista.

interesting I will have to see if i can get there before they close, hopefully they will still have some games left by that time

I was at the Fairfax one on Tuesday. They had a Monster brand cable marked at 109.99, I tore off the 109.99 sticker and underneath it was the original 39.99 sticker. Even at 40% off, they still would have made more on it than if they sold it normally. Some sale ...

what's this thing about a 10% premium will be charged for furniture ??!?!?

I mean are they really being a stink about there crappy furniture too?

Too add insult to injury. They are now selling tv's that either don't work, missing cables or have cracked screens for 1000 bucks!! saying for parts only. Ok..now that's really fucked up. If they would have sold a 1000 dollar tv for 200 bucks then I would have picked it up and gotten the parts for repair and try to fix it myself.

I did pick up windows xp pro and vista home premium. Hoping MS would drop XP Pro since vista was out. Sadly I was wrong as it rang up 300 bucks with 90 dollars off. So I picked up Vista Home Premium from 240 to 170. Figuring that MS won't drop the price of there os this WAS a good deal. They seem to have plenty of copies since no one is buying it because of bad press. I won't install Vista til SP1 or SP2 comes out.

Fairlakes and Tysons Corner - 8 Days Left (Monday), games 40% off, but not a very good selection. However, I did pick up Elite Beat Agents (DS) for $18 @ Tysons. Also a bunch of 3 and 1 month Live cards but @ 40% off it's okay but not great.

Also, there seem to be no more PSPs @ FairLakes. :(
Also, there seem to be no more PSPs @ FairLakes. :(
well, since the PSP is going to be redesigned, might as well wait right?

@ FairLakes and Tysons games are now 50% off. Picked up Rogue Galaxy (PS2) for ~20 @ Tysons and Gears of War for ~30 @ FairLakes. Not much else I was terribly interested in though there was a Gunpey DS @ Tysons for ~15 (almost bit, but figured I'd leave it for someone else).

Any word what the discount is at Tysons Compusa today. I plan on stopping by one more time tomorrow since I was told they will close on Monday.

should hit 90% tomorrow but there will be nothing but junk.

I went to mine (Brookfield, WI) and it was 60-80% off, but there was nothing left. I picked up Bounty Hounds for PSP. I had bought myself a copy of Vista when it was 40% off, but decided I didn't want it (buyer's remorse) so I was able to put it on Ebay and get pretty much what I paid for it back. I mostly used the sale to stock up on PSP games. I wound up getting like 8 games off this sale at various points of the clearance

Ratchet & Clank - $32 (20% off)
Capcom Puzzle World - $24 (20% off, this dropped to 20 after I bought it at EB)
Pirates! - $24 (20% off)
Killzone Liberation - $24 (40% off)
Dynasty Warriors Vol 2 - $20 (50% off)
MK: Unchained - $15 (50% off)
Legend of Heroes 3 - $20 (50% off)
Bounty Hounds - $14 (60% off)

Those fatwallet suckers who bought all those copies of Vista aren't going to make jack squat off them, or at best, not enough profit to have made it worth their while.

No offense, but this is the NORTHERN VA Close out coverage NOT the BROOKFIELD, WI coverage..
