Stardock May Develop a sequel to MoM?

Meh. I thought Galactic Civilizations was fatally boring, so I can't agree with the 'good news' part.

Bah. I say! Bah!!!
I can understand why someone wouldn't like GalCiv. I loved the game, in fact I still play it from time to time. To each their own, I guess...

Reguardless, I am glad to see that someone may have the opportunity to do something with the Master of Magic license. It was a good game.

Oh, and thanks for the avatar props. I'm a big Fallout fan.
I wonder how they'll top Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic, since the AOW series is basically MoM.
I'd have to agree with one of the comments on that page in the link: there's something missing from Shadow Magic that kept me going back to Master of Magic. Maybe it's just an accumulation of little details, such as the relative lack of distinction in the heroes in Shadow Magic (MoM heroes & champions were certainly distinct from one another, for the most part) or the decrease in unit & spell variety (both of which I think MoM has Shadow Magic beat in.) At any rate, there's just that little something missing from AoW:SM that leaves me interested in a MoM sequel (assuming that they don't screw it up in an effort to maximize appeal to mainstream audiences.) Thanks for the heads up, OP.

Well AOW is definately better and worse than MOM.

Better in that it has far far fewer bugs, updated graphics, and both hotseat and internet multiplayer (a huge plus). The siege battles are also incredible and I really like the hall of enchantment and tower thing that shoots at people.

Worse in as you say the heroes aren't quite as distinct, and there are a few less spells and more importantly less spell variety. (I miss phantom warriors and summon island alot). I'm not sure I quite agree about the unit variety though, or at least it isn't as noticeable as the spell/hero variety.

I'm rooting for a new MOM for sure, but I don't think stardock is up to it really, just going by the quality of their other products.

My prof. actually worked on MOM 2 before it got cancelled. It was going to be an RTS crazy enough.

I dont know why everyone on this thread is down on Stardock. They build solid games, that are (relatively bug-free). They solicit the opinions of fans during game design, and any expansions. And they never abandeon a game after its release. I will say that their games are usually very boring on the graphic side of things, but thier user interface design is top-notch.

I only wish that other game designers paid attention to these things.

Alot of people don't like Stardock after using Windowblinds or one of their other products which have had pretty rocky pasts in terms of stability.

There's only 5 ways to improve MOM that I can think of:
1. Multiplayer (would stardock do this? galciv wasn't multiplayer, was it?)
2. Better graphics (stardock probobly not a good choice here)
3. Better sound (ditto)
4. Less bugs (ditto)
5. Better AI (dubious)

In essence, I don't really see them being able to improve upon MOM in any way. I'd much rather see Triumph do it, since they at least could bring 1-4 to the table.

You sir, made my day by point out that news story. I have been looking forward for a new MoM for a long time. I just hope Stardock does not slaughter it like Quicksilver did to MoO3...

MOO3 was one of the biggest dissapointments of my life since I loved MOO2 so much.

I wonder if MOM2 and AOW3 will come out at around the same time. Hopefully the competition will be good for both. If there even will be an AO3 I guess, I haven't heard any news or anything.

Totally agree with posts above. I played GalCiv after reading the reviews and honestly, though it did have potnetial, MOO and MOO2 allowed more customization and you did not have to be a human all the time (go Klackons!). Here's hoping that Stardock has learned from their GalCiv experience and make a MoM remake that is playable, fun, and customizable. I'm not holding my breath, though.
