For those who don't want to read, it got a 9, 9, 10, 10 :)

From IGN:

May 21, 2007 - While most of us can still only dream of a chance to play the Wii version of Resident Evil 4, the editors of Famitsu DS+Wii were apparently spending some quality time with the real thing long ago. The Nintendo-oriented monthly sister publication of Weekly Famitsu offered opinions on the game in its July issue, which just hit Japanese news stands today.

Judging by the scores, the Wii could have a critical hit. Two editors awarded the game a perfect 10 out of 10. The other two were still impressed enough to award a score of 9.

The reviewers noted that while the content is almost the same as the GameCube original, the direct Wiimote-based controls offer a plus, making the game feel like something fresh and different. One reviewer said that the game offers the feeling of being closer to the action as well as upping the tension.

Multiple reviewers agreed on two points, that the new controls are simple and easy to get into, and that even those who played the original will be able to enjoy themselves.

We'll be sure and spend some quality time with the title for ourselves when the RE4 Wii Edition hits Japan on the 31st and America on June 19th. Be sure and check back for our review closer to the US version's release.

I really have to question the link between famitsu reviews and sales. Take all the 360 games that rate high but in genres no one cares about.

Also, this game is already available on 3 platforms. Thats gotta bite into it a lot.

I beat RE4 5 times on the cube, maxed out the money, and still continued to play through it.

Needless to say, I'm picking this one up. I may go ahead and completely pay it off.

It's launching at 29.99. That's exactly the right point to settle the "Man, I already have this on Cube, PS2 and PC.. oh wait, 29.99? Sign me up!"
im guessing no graphical enhancements?
It has true 16x9 now, which the original cube version didn't, and the PS2 was a dumbed down version of that.

Have this game ordered already. I have it for GCN, but never actually played it. Now I really look forward to the Wii version, perfect summer game.

Buy.com has preorders for it for $28.99. If can, use GCO to get it down to $18.99. It's funny that I'm still paying twice as much as I did for the GCN version.

I'm not sold yet, not until I see some US reviews. Famitsu's more recent high scores didn't translate as well to me as they used to in the past. If I'm not mistaken, they gave both FFXII and Nintendogs perfect scores and I found both of them to be 'great' at best.

It's $30 bucks, has the Cube graphics (meaning better than all Wii games out right now), the PS2 content, true 16:9, and the controls. If I hear a good US review, I'm going to have to pick it up...again. But even if it got like 7's and 8's, I'll probably still get it. The price is so tempting.

Hm... I'm still wondering if they are just going to just have the wii controls in there, or if they are also going to keep the old Gamecube controller config in there too? Kind of like Metal Slug.

If it's the latter, I can go ahead and get a few bucks and sell my RE 4 for the Cube and the PS2, and have the best of both worlds - awesome new control, and the awesome old way to control it too.

I'll pick it up because it's cheap, something to play, and "truer" 16x9.
It'll look really nice when it fills up the screen.

In theory, if they increased the dificulty to balance out the more precise aiming, then keeping Gamecube aiming would not be warranted.

In the other scenario, if they didnt increase the dificulty and kept the alternate controls, the game would be too easy.

I'll be picking this up for sure, I think I already have it reserved on Amazon.

But I have to wonder how Wiimote control will affect the Mercenaries minigame? I mean, one false move in that mode and your entire run is screwed. Wiimote cursors flying off the edges of the screen dont seem like a good way to play that mode. Lets hope they do include gamecube controller support.

I am still up in the air about this one. I bet the original enough times, and this one sounds fucking awesome but idk if I can replay the same game over again even with the added controlls. I will wait for a gamespot review to see how awesome the controlls really are and maybe I might bite if they are that good.

You know I bought the collectors edition and played through the game right away. It took me a bit due to my limited time frame but I loved this game... immediately I loaned it too a friend and since then shelved it.

i did so figuring I could then come back to it and have it be almost new to me all over again.. This announcement has me excited as i cant wait to play it again with the new control set up.

I have it for the Cube and played through it but I never did pick up the PS2 version. I intended to get it to check out the extra content. So for $30 bucks or less with a coupon of some sort I'll give it a go.

Just remember they gave the Kirby racing game for the Gamecube a 39/40... I bought that based on that review alone. I'll never trust Famitsu again lol :)

Anyways, if you don't own RE4 already then this is the time to buy it. If you already own RE4 and love it, support Capcom and buy another copy of it. If you don't like RE4 then I will force you into a locked room where you have to play Kabuki Warriors for twenty four hours straight. Buy it you bastards.

When i got RE4 at release for the GC I played it so much. Beat it at least 5 times within the first 2 weeks of having it.

I later got it for the PS2 and just couldn't play it again

The PS2 game was balanced differently than the GC one.

Just to summarize: If you haven't played RE4, you phail.

If you HAVE on the Cube, the extra Ada mission isn't exactly anything worth paying for (It is good, but 'more of the same' type good.). So if it is your selling point, think twice. At least focus on the Wiimote aiming.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCykvHUC4og WTF?
That commercials concept could have been so cool, but the cheesy actors killed it. Also what's up with that girls hair? It looks like a wig. And why does the person playing the game have such horrible aim and always shoots at the zombies legs?

Anyway, I've never played RE4 before so I guess I'll finally get it. I might wait till it hits $20 though.

I'm a RE4 whore, and I'll be picking this up day one. I'm trading in the Cube one. I've beat it five times, gotten every weapon, did the bonus missions, the only thing I didn't complete is Mercenary mode.

With the Wii version.. it's a fresh new challenge.. AND the controls are completely different..

I'm easily entertained.
And why does the person playing the game have such horrible aim and always shoots at the zombies legs?
I dunno about the guy in the commercial, but shooting enemies in the leg/foot is a valid tactic in RE4. When you shoot them below the knee, they stumble/lean over, so you can run in and do your unarmed attack. Either a roundhouse kick that takes their head off, or my personal favorit, the vertical suplex! You can kill an enemy after expending only one round.
Still haven't played my GC copy. I know, I suck.
You and me both my friend, you and me both...

Speaking of RE4, I think I have almost every RE4 related item out there. I think I'm missing the burlap sack though... and I don't have any of the figures besides Ada.

I just played through RE4 for the second time about 2 months ago so I'm not sure if I feel like playing it again.... true 16x9 and the extra missions might be worth it but I'm not sold on the controls.

Exactly. I loved to shoot them in the knee, wait for them to drop, and then knife slash the living crap out of them. You could get a lot of slashes in if you were fast and it really helped to conserve ammo. I tried to use the knee/action command combo but I seemed to always screw up the timing so knifing them just worked better.

Though I don't trust Famitsu as much as I used to, it's good to see early enthusiasm for the game. I think this is a fantastic deal.

You read a lot of hype online. People get excited about stuff for whatever reasons that don't usually include the quality of the game, and the fact that they have an audience makes them get even more excited. A good example is Super Paper Mario--after its initial release, there were people in the thread calling it an early GOTY candidate. Even Twilight Princess received kudos that, IMO, might have been undeserving.

But RE4 is one of those rare titles that deserves ALL of the praise. It is the only title I've played in the past 5 years that absolutely blew me away in terms of quality and playability in the way that other gamers exaggerate for lesser titles. It is such a quality title to me that I'm willing to overlook the copy I already own and buy a new copy simply for the sake of experiencing the game in a new light.

I don't know if RE4 is in my all-time top 5 favorites (to play) simply because horror titles scare the shit out of me, but it's definitely in the top 3 games I esteem most highly. I just think the team behind that game did a peerless job: there's so much quality there in the play control, the graphics, the content, etc. Amazing work all around.

Wow, thats awesome! I Didn't know that. Makes dredging through the hordes a lot more interesting.

Running out of ammo in RE4??? lol

That said, if I come across some extra loot somewhere I'll pick it up after I get SPM.

Heh, I never said anything about "running out," I said "conserve." I love it when people get on RE4's case for not being "survival" horror. The game is what it is, which is an awesome game.

Frankly I'm tired of having to conserve my ammo to survive. What the hell is an elite special operative doing going into a mission with little to no ammo or weapons anyway?

In RE you jump out of a helicopter on a mission and if you are Jill your starting weapon is a crappy knife. You've got to be kidding! Do you think I'm going to invesitgate some psycho, evil scientist lab without at least 2 knives, 3 hand guns, a machine gun and plenty of ammo for all? And have them tightly secured to my person so they won't fall off?

Definitely some good points. :whistle2:D

Let's face it, the original RE games were not about difficult fighting or action, they were all about inventory management. If your character was fully loaded they'd be a cake walk.

QFT.

I like the scarcity of ammo. Hell, I even like the Ink Ribbon save system. If you can save anywhere, anytime, as much as you want... whats scary about that?
Running out of ammo in RE4??? lol
Actually, the PS2 version of RE4 halved the ammo drops more or less across the board. I was always a kneecap-stabstabstab kinda guy, so I wasn't too bad off. But at least for the first and second chapters, you could not fuck around too much.

You know, I hear this kind of thing a lot. I just don't get it. What is so great about this game? I've never played it nor seen it played so I have no idea, and am really curious as to why everyone things it is SO great (as opposed to just a generally good game). I have no interest in shooting zombies, so I never considered playing it. Now, if this version becomes as cheap as the GC one has at times (under $10), I may pick it up, eventually ;).

Maybe if I keep waiting I'll be able to get the special Wii 2 HD version .
What is so great about this game? . . . I have no interest in shooting zombies, so I never considered playing it.
I'm an incredible pussy when it comes to horror titles, so I understand where you're coming from. I enjoy horror movies/games, but they're not the kind of thing I play again and again. RE4 is the exception. I'm willing to torture myself (that is, continually scare the piss out of myself) for the sake of that game.

It is such a great game, especially if you insist on doing the first playthrough at night only with all of the lights turned off. I don't know how many nightmares I had set to the distant wailing of those freaky monks.

If you wait 6 months you may be able to pick up the Wii version for $19.99 or something. That is a steal for what you're getting. Though the $30 price point is a nice sweet spot, I think.
