looks like I need to go and apply for a job tomorrow. I want that gold package (pending they show off all the merchandise)

Argh. I hate this.

I wind up paying more to *not* get a physical copy of the game. That drives me insane.

>_< That Gold package is mighty tempting, but I can't bear the idea of not having the actual game in my hands.

Was a release date ever confirmed anyway?

I'm with Mega Man. I like the silver packaging but first, if it's down load on;y I should see a discount. That's a oot of value for $60. But then again it could be $40.

I'm going to wait until it's physically released. I'd prefer a physical game. I hate how Valve force feeds its customers.

But mostly I'm cheap and I'm sure I can find a deal on HL2 once its released. I ppicked up Far Cry for $25 the week after its release. I might get lucky with HL2 too.

Meh. I don't see the point in the Gold package. You get all the actual game software with Silver, and the rest of the stuff in Gold is just knick-knacks...
Besides, 30 Bucks for knick-knacks... this is cheapassgamer

I could be wrong, but it looks like to me that you do get a physical copy of Half Life 2 with the Gold package, or does the collector's box not include the game?

I don't think they would be allowed to include the game in the box, what would be the point of buying from VU than.

$90 for stickers and posters is insane!

These people are really trying to milk the hype.

I'll wait for a sale and pick up the hard copy of the silver.

I don't think there's going to be a hard copy of Silver. Not a complete one. I think the only way too get it complete is through Steam.

The two retail packages are listed as...

Retail Boxes
Standard Edition - includes HL2 and CS:Source. Ships on six CDs, in one of three box-art packages (Gordon, Alyx or the G-Man).

Collector's Edition — includes Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life 1: Source, a Half-Life 2 T-shirt and a Prima book sampler. Ships on a single DVD.

You'll notice that neither of them mentions Day of Defeat Source or Valve's Back Catalog. Also you have to get the Collectors edition to get Half Life Source.

I assume that means they're either A) Going to release Day of Defeat as a stand alone package at a later time, or B) Day of Defeat, the back Catalog, and the new TFC are going to cost you extra and you'll have to buy them through steam anyway.
Guess the way to go is the Collector's Edition.
That's what I'm getting as soon as it hits a lower price.

I JUST WANT TO PLAY!!! Its the same damn game either way you buy it, why did Valve/VU have to give us so many options, ARRRRG! I can't decide, BRAAAAWWRRR. Just buy the silver pack, get all the games, and buy the swag on ebay, OR buy it all at one time with the gold package, ARRRRGGG! TOO MANY CHOICES!!! Ima go take my medicine now...

Valve is too confusing. I want the silver Steam, yet I have no desire at all to not have the physical game. Valve- give me HL 2, HL 1: Sournce, and CS:S. then I will be happy. I don't want to pay $30 for a remake of an old game and a t- shirt that doesn't fit and a book. Stupid Valve...

Hm, I think that Valve is doing a very progressive thing by giving us the choice to order HL online. If you buy a retail version of a game and your dog/child/whatever decides that cd's are its new favorite play toy then you are SOL when your game is destroyed. Whereas with Steam I need no cd and I can always dl the game again if my hard drive crashes.

I mean, I can see why people would want a hard copy, but this is the future IMO. However, I do agree that it should be cheaper because there are production costs because of the lack of case/manual/cd etc. But, I suppose the have to get the money to run the Steam servers from some where.

Edit: I bought the Silver version, and the graphics, physics, and detail in CS: Source are great. I especially liked when i shot a computer in the Office map and the more i shot it the more computer components came flying out. Ah.. the list goes on and on concerning the level of detail in some of the levels....

no, there aren't any bots. its like the original CS, just with much better graphics etc.
overall, i think they made it much better game-wise also. feels more real, if that makes sense.

I was hoping they would use the Condition Zero bots. :(
