Nintendo and Sony won't touch Manhunt 2 with AO rating

Forget retail and renting, if Manhunt 2 maintains its AO rating it won't even be allowed licence or playback on Nintendo's Wii or Sony's PlayStation.

This is just stupid. I mean is there really a big difference between M and AO.
M should be played 17+ or with observation from parents. AO is meant for adults. Are you saying that difference should keep games off the shelves? That seems like complete bullshit to me.

I don't even play the game, but I hate how the system of things is. The consoles "won't touch the game" just because some big stores have a policy against AO games. Adult shouldn't be able to play whatever they want to spend money on? Store policies are out of date. These ratings need to be altered in a way that actually makes sense or ditched for a better system.

I hope Microsoft makes some moves and tries to get the game, since these other companies don't seem to care about the gamers, rather their wallet. If Microsoft wouldn't allow AO games, they belong in the same boat.

As a consumer, to not even have the option to buy an AO game pisses me off.

If a store wants to refuse a sale to a minor or put checks in place to make sure a parent cannot biuy it for a younger child or included a paper with the purchase that discusses the content of the game (something that should be done with all M games, especially when a lazy parent is buying the game for a child) ... I wouldn't have a problem with the companies or retailers... but to "not touch a game" when obviously a lot of consumer wants it...

It seems like you think the problem is that you want AO games to be available, which means this will help the cause being AO. The only way for more to be available is for more to be made and then sony and nintendo will see the money they're missing out. What we really need is more legitimacy for the ratings, which this has the potential to bring.

But I know what you mean. Actually, my girlfriend and I got into a heated discussion about this last Friday night. She doesn't play games and doesn't know about the history of them, she just sees things from a parental stand point as she has three daughters.

I get the need to keep kids away from this, but also to let us be able to make the call if we should be allowed to play it. She was saying why can't they put all M rated games into a seperate shop where kids can't get to them, basically a porn shop for M rated games. Le Sigh.

Just slap that bitch and remind her these are things for men to talk about and women to shut up and have more children.

As I said in my call in today on the Live show, I fully believe that the console makers are making this worse by not allowing a AO game on their console. It gives the ESRB the opportunity to basically give any game that they don't want to come out an AO rating.

A Win Win for Rockstar(If Sony or Nintendo permited) would be for Rockstar to release the AO version online from their website and sell it to people who really want the AO version. Then they go back and edit it and Sell the M rated Version to all the Walmarts and BestBuys. So they get sales from both the AO rated version and the M version in their respective markets.

That would be the Ideal way to fix this problem. The only thing stopping them is Sony and Nintendo not allowing an AO rated game on their System.
