I live near the Pennsylvania Border so I get to see all the political ads targeted at the Battleground state. I've just noticed three new ads targeted directly at women voters. The first is about medicare, with a nurse proclaiming that the election of John Kerry would mean doom a gloom for pregnant woment.

The other two are about taxes. One specifically had a woman driving with her kids in a van and listening on the raido to, guess what, a Bush political add. With claims that John Kerry is basically going to tax her to death.

First, I think this signals a new phase in the campaign. Pro bush ads in the past have been negative, but not directly from George Bush. More from 527's and the Republican party. These new ads are as nasty as any other, and they're clearly from the Bush Campaign directly. I think it shows an air of desperation.

Secondly, I think before Bush felt he could take his base and win. Now it's not so clear. The race is so close that they need Woman voters to tip it over the edge. This'll be interesting to see how this ad campaign succeeds.

I thinks thats just a state thing. When I drive through there from my trips from CT to WI, I see tons of signs geared towards woman. Slow down, my mommy works here. Shit like that.

Bush will win.

I knew you would come around!

Your second point isn't a sign of a new phase at all, infact there's nothing new about ads like this in politics in general. Of course you try to get votes outside your typical base in swing/battleground states...that's what makes them so important. If you could just rely on your base to easily win a state for you then it wouldn't be a battleground state.

I't not new in general. It's a new tactical front in the Bush campaign. Frankly, they weren't focusing so heavily on woman voters before the debates. Yeah, they weren't ignoring women voters. But three or four new ads released a coup[le days after the second debate. It's obviously a new line of poolitivcal attack.

Also, their negativity, directly aligned with the president, is new. Since he let the Republican PArty and 527's like the swift boats handle negative attack ads previously while his direct campaign ads were more upbeat and focused on his character and record.

Big Nick just showed us how Bush talks about Kerry. Everything taken out of context. Good job Nick. :D

They aren't gonna get a lot of women voters, since every woman voter knows that Bush is pro-life and truly believes that we shouldn't be teaching any type of birth control usage other than abstinence in our schools.

Close, but you may be surprised by how many conservative christian woman will vote for Bush. I think a more accurate statement would be these ads aren't going to generate many women voters to change their vote from the other side.

I know that, my aunt is one of them. She's Catholic, and she used to be a nun, and gives and volunteers heavily to Right to Life, a pro-life organization. But like you said, he's not gonna change anyone's mind, and that was my main point. I just should've said that. #-o
