CAG's shipwreck & mrs. shipwreck preview the new releases for the week of July 10th, 2007. This week Wombat joins us as a special guest, there's an audio unbagging, and we of course cover the handful of games that actually dare to hit store shelves during E3 week.

Project Sylpheed: Arc of Deception Dev. Square Enix Pub. Microsoft Systems: 360 MSRP: $39.99
Square Enix's first foray on the Xbox 360 isn't Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, but is instead a space flight combat game. Well, that just saved me 80 hours of my life. Actually, if you like space shooters, there's really not much to choose from these days, but this one seems to be decent (and brightly colored). - ship

Best Deal:
Fry's is selling Project Sylpheed for $35 this week.

:360: Purchase At Amazon $39.99 (Free shipping)
:360: Purchase At Family Video $37 (99 cent shipping)
:360: See fidodido's Fry's ad $34.99

Riviera: The Promised Land Dev. Sting Pub. Atlus Systems: PSP MSRP: $39.99
This Atlus RPG was originally released on the GBA in 2005. It's a turn-based RPG with some point and click adventure gameplay. Unlike many RPGs, you can't return to areas you've already visited, so there's very little wandering or repetitive elements. The improvements made with the PSP version are threefold: better graphics, more CG sequences, and better voice acting. Coming with those improvements is also a $40 price tag. If you own the GBA version, there's probably not a great reason to upgrade. - mrs. ship

Best Deal:
There don't seem to be any specific deals for Riviera.

:psp: Purchase At Amazon $39.99 (Free shipping)

Smash Court Tennis 3 Dev. Namco Bandai Pub. Namco Bandai Systems: PSP MSRP: $29.99
Sure, there's already two versions of Virtua Tennis on the PSP, but what if you feel less like playing the game of kings and more like playing the game of serfs? Well, Smash Court Tennis 3 puts its fuzzy balls in the palm of your hand as you take on top players and play mini games in your pursuit to be the #1 player in the world. - ship

Best Deal:
Amazon is offering Smash Court Tennis 3 for $27 shipped.

:psp: Purchase At Amazon $26.99 (Free shipping)

Sword of the New World: Granado Espada Dev. Hanbitsoft Pub. K2 Network Systems: PC MSRP: $19.99
This Korean MMORPG has been receiving a lot of press so I figured it was at least worth mentioning in the Foreplay this week. Take control of up to three characters simultaneously as you conquer a new continent and decide if it's worth a monthly fee to play past level 20. - ship

Best Deal:
Fry's is offering Sword of the New World: Granado Espada for $15. EB/Gamestop is offering an exclusive character and 10,000 in in-game currency.

:pc: Purchase At Amazon $19.99 (Free shipping on orders over $25)
:pc: See fidodido's Fry's ad $14.99
:pc: Purchase At EB Games $19.99 (Exclusive character Najib Sharif & 10,000 VIS)

Vegas Casino: High 5! Dev. SVG Pub. SVG Distribution Systems: DS MSRP: $19.99
(Deja Preview) This game must be sooooo cool because instead of spelling out the number five, there's a 5! Get it, it's like high five, but instead they wrote high 5! Texas Hold'em! Blackjack! Roulette! Slots! Big-6 Money Wheel! The exclamation points are just there to make you want to spend your $20! - mrs. ship

Best Deal:
There don't appear to be any specific deals for Vegas Casino: High 5.

:ds: Purchase At Amazon $19.99 (Free shipping on orders over $25)
:ds: Purchase At Deep Discount $18.99 (Free shipping)

On The DL with the Shipwrecks

Air Zonk Systems: Wii MSRP: $6
Give Bonk some sweet shades, a lightning bolt mohawk, and blast him into the future to fly and shoot stuff in this cartoon-like horizontal scrolling shooter. Hey, why not? - ship

Mach Rider Systems: Wii MSRP: $5
It's the year 2012 and the apocalyptic streets are ruled by four-wheelers. There's only one man who can take these thugs down and keep the road safe for fellow God-fearing, machine-gunning motorcyclists: Spy Hunter Mach Rider. - ship

Yoshi Systems: Wii MSRP: $5
This game is a puzzle game in which the rules are simple: two of the same blocks laid together make the blocks disappear. You have four columns in which to line the blocks up, and you'll periodically be able to sandwich the pieces between halves of Yoshi eggs to score big points. I played this game a lot on the NES and thoroughly enjoyed the mindless play. For $5, you can too. But if you're waiting for a truly fantastic puzzler, wait until Dr. Mario comes to the virtual console. - mrs. ship

Feedback:

Did we miss a good sale on a game? Did we miss previewing a game completely? Well, the only way that everyone can know a better deal is out there is to let us know about it. Post deals you've found or games that we missed in the thread so that CAGs can make sure they are getting the absolute best prices on new releases.

Yes My entertainment for the way to work is here!!! Nice Title BTW. lol. Shipwreck, Mrs. Shipwreck and Wombat... Oh my... ( A La Al Bundy)

for a bad xbox live purchase. Demo before you buy. Nice ps3 score, that system will have some legs. You will get your moneys worth eventually. btw Ship you were right, Sylpheed is very niche. The niche is people who like shitty games and have $40 burning a hole in their pocket.

 Had the same problem at circuit city buying virtua tennis 3. I still bought it because it was cheaper than anywhere else i had seen it.

A witch by default is female... "boy witches" are call warlocks.

I only nitpick because I'm listening.

Keep up the good work shipwrecks!

and come back to userplane sometime.

good god riveria is out...damn I thought I didn't need to spend too much money these months.

hey shipwreck, i totally know what you mean about sounding negative when talking about the transformers movie. my friends are all crazy for it, and whenever i talk about it with them, as hard as i try to be positive it leads to venting and frustration.

it's like in football the quarterback makes the perfect pass for a touchdown and michael bay fumbles. i couldn't help but groan out a resounding "AWWWWW" the whole time.

it just doesn't help that the strengths of the film can be summed up in 2 seconds, and the crap takes an hour.
Wombat was an interesting addition, but I think overall he took away from the chemistry the shipwrecks have together.
You're kidding, right? Wombat is a great addition to anything. I loved his comments about accents.

BTW He's great on chicken, and adds zing to tacos.

Seriously, he's a seasoned (pun intented) professional, he knows when to add his comments and more importantly, he knows when to listen. Tyra Banks could learn a few things from the guy.

Hey Mrs. Ship, I wanted to suggest something since you mentioned mp3 players on your show.

You should check out the new Creative Zen Stone. It's a 1 GB mp3 player, w/ rechargable battery, about the same size of the the iPod Mini Shufflle, and uses the same cord as the PSP (usb to usb mini)

Here's the kicker, it's only 40 dollars, half the price of the iPod mini shuffle.
Also, you don't have to any extra install software like iTunes, you can simply add files via Windows Explorer. It'll play folders and the files within them in alphabetical order.

It also has a neat feature called "folder skip". You can see pics of it here:

btw, great show again!

I couldn't help feel a little bad for Shipwreck, though, what with Mrs. Shipwreck AND Wombat laying into him ;)

Took me a few minutes of staring at that box art to get your point, but yes, I guess Final Fantasy XI was the first Square Enix Xbox 360 game.

Nice job. You guys sound a lot more relaxed and playful this week. Wombat was a nice addition, a cool guest. Gratz on the PS3, I guess? I think Mrs. Ship's reaction was a lot better than what Mrs. Gumn's reaction would've been. :p

this was hilarious! Wombat added some hilarious tension with shipwreck.

btw, i'm confused shipwreck, i have you on my friend's list on PS3 before you talked about this. did you create an account before you told mrs. shipwreck? :)

I originally bought a PS3 around launch and sold it a couple of days later due to buyer's remorse and being completely underwhelmed by what the system had to offer at launch. So, I've had my PSN account since then.

ah, that explains it. btw, your Ohio accent rules, Wombat is so New York-centric :bouncy:

Just listened to this and it was a really good show. You should have Wombat and/or Cheapy on more often, even though it's only your 7th show. I can't say I've noticed an "accent" from anybody in my 18 years of living in Ohio, so maybe that means I've got one, too.

Was Wombat making fun of Drake and the 99 Dragons' name or Uncharted: Drake's Fortune?

You should definitely pick up Stardust HD if you can, it's an excellent game that's deep, but a lot of fun.

I believe he was commenting on the fact that they shouldn't have used the name 'Drake' in the PS3 game. He, like myself, upon hearing the name Drake immediately thinks of the craptacular game Drake of the 99 Dragons. That game singlehandley has ruined the name Drake.

Anyway, great podcast. Wombat was a great addition to the show; lot's of hilarious comments and random play that really livened things up. I love how he commented on Ship's accent (especially the lack of 'L's in some words). My dad's side of the family is from Ohio, and it's really easy to hear for me. But yeah, I did feel a little bad, because Ship was getting doubleteamed from his wife and Wombat. He got a little silent for a bit, the anger must have been brewing :)

Gotcha. I don't really get it, as the plot explains the reason for the name, which works for me.

in my honest opinion, this was the worst cagforecast...
mostly because Mrs. Shipwreck left early but because Ship doesnt seem to have self confident on what hes reporting...it was cool having Wombat on the show but it was like Wombat was coaching Ship on how to do a podcast almost...

bottom line, Ship needs his first mate or this show wont work...
next week...please have both Ship and Mrs Ship...Wombat is always a plus but not a substitute...

Don't worry, mrs. ship will be back this week and there for the entire show. It certainly wasn't planned for her to have to leave midway through the show and that threw a little wrench into the podcast. At that point we pretty much had two sidekicks and no host, and I didn't know much about the games mrs. ship had researched, so it was kind of like that scene in Wayne's World where Garth has to run the show.

We should be back on track this week. Thanks for the comments.

Well, after almost 2 weeks fulled with utter crap (unexpected work travel, death in the family, and the discovery that I need hand surgery), I finally got back to my personal computer and am starting to get caught up on my podcasts. Imagine how amused I was to hear my name mentioned! :) I'm still going with Gurumin (and I think I'm getting better), but that will be put down for a little while following my hand surgery, in favor of games that don't require coordinated button pushing (games like Etrian Odyssey, and I'll also be going back to Pokemon a bit, and playing the PSP version of Final Fantasy).

In this episode, I think one minor thing that I find frustrating really came to a head--sometimes, when you talk about games, you don't really say what "kind" of game it is. For example, when you talked about Onimusha (Ominusha?), you said "It's just like the original," but honestly, I have no idea what kind of game the original was, so that really doesn't help me too much.. Just a minor gripe, really.

I thought Wombat was a nice addition to the show this week, it might be fun to have him (or maybe somebody else?) as a "once-in-awhile" guest.

Finally, for the ships...you guys seem to play a lot of the Atlus games, have either of you played Contact (DS game)? If yes, what did you think of it? I have it sitting in my stack from awhile ago, and haven't tried it yet, was wondering what others thought of it.

Alright, I have to go catch up on Foreplay 8, CAG82, and all the other shows I listen to regularly. Keep up the great work!!!
