looking for a decent wireless router that plays nice with a ds, psp, and 360. i really want an airport extreme, mostly for the ability to have a networked usb drive, but they are expensive and i heard they don't work well with 360's. any confirmation of these systems working on a specific router would be nice, as well as specific deals.

edit:

i am thinking of getting this Buffalo model amazon newegg

anyone use this model with their gaming systems?

I have a Linksys WRT54G that works with all of the above, sometimes even simultaneously. Buy.com has them for about $50.

Wrt54 is the standard for home networking these days. Use WEP, change the routers password and/or turn off wireless administration and that's all the security you need for a home network.

I've got a D-Link WBR 2310 ($50 pretty much anywhere) and it works with great with my 360, PSP and DS.

D-Link routers are kinda flakey though, so I'm planning on getting a Linksys WRT54GL soon. The "L" version is basically the same as the regular WRT's but you can flash them with custom firmwares and make them run just as good as those $150 routers.

okay, thanks for the replies. although there are almost 300 1 star reviews on amazon, the average for the linksys is good. i may go with that, but i have two weeks to decide (that's when i move into my new place).

this is interesting. however it needs to connect to 3 PC's and a mac as well as the gaming systems. i'm not sure if this device can connect to anything other than aoss devices.

With the WRT-54G, be careful about which version you get. Version 5 and above have neutered memory. If you're going to be using more than one PC/device, it's going to slow down. I have 3 PC's (2 of which are frequently using bittorrent), and 3 consoles on my home network (of course, only one is usually connected at a time). Then again, it depends on your down/up stream as to how much of a bottleneck you'd experience.

Circuit City has the Buffalo WHR-G125 on sale right now for $39.99. Standalone it isn't going to be great, but it works well after flashing it to DD-WRT. Cheaper than the Linksys, faster on board processor (240mhz compared to the WRT54G's 200mhz), and more compatible with other firmware. As a matter of fact, there's a version of DD-WRT especially written for the WHR-G125.

Just be careful to do a little reading on flashing any router before you go through with it (or keep your receipt).. if not, you may end up bricking it.
