I am (probably) going to the US (Boston) later this month. I remember going as a kid (when I lived out west), that many things were cheaper there (even with the terrible exchange at the time).

I have been checking some bestbuy.com prices, and nothing strikes me as a much better deal than up here (maybe a 360 prem). I'll only have a few hundy to spend, so can't be a tv etc. Am I missing something?

I was also thinking about buying some stuff on eBay, then getting it send to the place we are staying (as us sellers tend rape on shipping to canda.

Advice?

The exchange rate is strongly in your favor right now. Unless prices have begun to adjust (which I doubt), you should find good deals about anywhere you go.

5-6 years ago the US dollar was 1.5x the Canadian, 2-3 years ago the US was 1.25x the Canadian, now its basically 1:1.

I went a few weeks ago and didn't find anything I really wanted in stores except for a used copy of FF 1&2 for the GBA for $17.99 ($35 here). Online there's some great deals.

We are staying at a hotel. Has anyone had any experience of getting stuff shipped to a hotel, say the week before arrival. I have heard of it being done, but not sure if all hotels are cool with it, etc. Especially with all the increased security measures now.

Is it possible to choose UPS shipping on something, then pick it up at a UPS store?

Or am I basically limited to b&m deals?

i've had stuff shipped to hotels, but they usually charge a fee (i think it was 5 USD). of course, with no tax and costing less pre-tax it was win win.

Shipping to hotels depends on the retail store. When I ordered from Bestbuy for work to a hotel they absolutely refused to send to a hotel no matter what. But I didn't find any mention on their site regarding this, they just decided not to and didn't notify me till it was too late. So you might want to check with customer service before you go through all that hassle.

get an american wife and get her to bring all your stuff up, that's what I did lol, I have 2k+ in electronics coming my way!

I keep trying, but every time I try, my Canadian wife gets bitchy. :hot:

The more I look, the more it looks like saving on shipping from ebay is the way to go.

My husband had a wielder delivered to his hotel he was staying at in Ohio just 2 weeks ago. He had a delivered a few days before he got there. He phoned the hotel before hand to see if they sign for things and if it's Okay.

I have a proxy to collect stuff I buy online for cheap for me whom I have him rendevous for years. However during all that time he's only sent back 1 box of stuff. Maybe it's time to pay him a visit to collect what's due for me ... and probably see how he is. He is a busy guy afterall. :/
