Expert: Bush Hides Global Warming Evidence
By CHUCK SCHOFFNER, Associated Press Writer

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Bush administration is trying to stifle scientific evidence of the dangers of global warming in an effort to keep the public uninformed, a NASA scientist said Tuesday night.

"In my more than three decades in government, I have never seen anything approaching the degree to which information flow from scientists to the public has been screened and controlled as it is now," James E. Hansen told a University of Iowa audience.

I still remember when he had the government report on the effects of pollution on global warming whitewashed to say that the causes of global warming can't be determined.

It's not surprising considering that it's to this administration's favor to keep the public as misinformed as possible. Helen Thomas came out the other day and said this was the most secretive White House she had ever seen.
Global warming is bullshit.
Even the Bush administration admits that global warming is real. The pentagon has drawn up plans for doomsday scenarios involving the results of global warming. Over 90% of the world's scientists believe that global warming is a real threat and that action needs to be taken now to prevent a diaster. People that don't believe global warming is real usually fall into one of two categories: 1. They work for the oil/energy/automotive industry. 2. They do not have a good working knowledge of science

Here is the generic chart:

Here is proof in the form of a chemical equation that shows how CFCl3 depletes ozone.
A CFCl3 molecule consists of 1 CARBON, 1 FLUORINE, and 3 CHLORINE ataoms.

CFCl3 + UV Light -> CFCl2 + Cl
Cl + O3 -> ClO + O2
ClO + O -> Cl + O2

The process repeats thousands of times, each time leaving a chlorine atom to start another reaction.

Cl + O3 -> ClO + O2
ClO + O -> Cl + O2

As you can see, a single CFCl3 molecule can destroy thousands of O3 (ozone) molecules, think of what a million moles of CFCl3 would do.

1 mole of CFCl3 is 137.35 grams (a mole is 602000000000000000000000 particles).

1 mole of CFCl3 can destroy about 100,000 moles of O3.

137.35 grams of CFCl3 destroys 4800000 grams of O3.

Are you saying that this is incorrect? If so provide proof that this reaction cannot happen.
___
The "greenhouse effect" is much simpler. Excess production of CO2, CH4, and N2O form a layer in the atmosphere that prevents much UV radiation from leaving the atmosphere, reflecting it back down to earth. It is common knowledge, if you don't understand it then use google.

3. They support Bush, who doesn't make mistakes.
The problem with this is that CFCs don't rise.
CFCl3's high molecular stability allows them to migrate to the stratosphere, where they destroy ozone.

They don't float, if that's what you mean, but they do eventually reach the atmosphere and the large area of the ozone layer with low O3 concentration is proof of that.

It is measured by high altitude planes and satellites.

CFC's can indeed be found in the upper atmosphere. Don't confuse ozone depletion with global warming, however. They are two distinct issues.

'The TIMES revealed: "In a stark shift for the Bush administration, the United States has sent a climate report to the United Nations detailing specific and far-reaching effects that it says global warming will inflict on the American environment.

"In the report, the administration for the first time mostly blames human actions for recent global warming."

The report goes on to predict: A "disruption of snow-fed water supplies, more stifling heat waves and the permanent disappearance of Rocky Mountain meadows and coastal marshes." '

Actually this Administration has acknowledge that Global Warming Exists and the threat it poses to the nation.

I'm not saying they've handeled it well. They've handeled environmental issues poorly. Rolling back environmental protections for big business.

This expert is frankly incorrect in his assesment though. While the argument can be made (and quite well) that the administration has had a negative impact on environmental regulations, his position that the administratiuon does everything it can to diminish Gglobal warming is unsubstantiated. On Global Warming, the Bush Administration has continually recognized it as a problem and I think the argument that they are supressing information without evidence is rash.

Thought, I will be the first to admit, that they have a poor record on the environment. Lets not forget that Christy Todd Whitman resigned in protest from the EPA with basically the same charges as this individual.
