Alternative to 1st party wireless adapter?

XboxMaster

CAGiversary!
Hey, I figured if I'm bout to drop $100 on a wireless adapter I should see if there's a cheaper alternative. Specificly one I could buy in-store somewhere.
Hey I'm using a Logitech Wireless Play Link it's called and it works awesome you can get it anywhere from $20.00-$30.00 and a cheap great alternative to the xbox 360 one. Check Amazon.com or Ebay.

Thanks for the link! I've been looking for a cheaper alternative to the $100 wireless adapter

BTW, do you have any experience with the Nyko Net Extender? It sounds like the same thing, but I'm not 100% sure.

What I do is connect my 360 to my laptop through an ethernet wire. I allow for internet connnection sharing and use my laptop's USB wireless adapter to get internet. My method is free because the 360 comes with an ethernet wire.

There's also a Linksys wireless adapter that gets good reviews that can be had for about $30.

my brother needs one, but when I look on amazon, there is 3 options...2 of them are in the mid 20 range, but the other is 80.

Xbox Play Link $21.95
Logitech Inc Logitech Play Link Wireless $21.95

Xbox360 --- Logitech Play Link Wireless Network Extender $74.99

is there any difference between them. Will the xbox one work on the 360? There is very little in the description filed on amzon for any of them

Yeah I'm not really sure if you can find it in a store anymore I think I got mine at buy.com a year ago. I never tried the Nyko thing though.

Think you can tell me how to use internet sharing or tell me where I can find out?
I'd much rather share my desktop's wireless connection than fork out for an overpriced 360 adaptor.:bouncy:

Logitech Playlink works well playing online, but its not good if you're going to download something off the Marketplace.

I connect my 360 to my Mac. Works fine, downloads fine.

go on controlpanel>network connection>

right click on ur network setup, like mine is called wireless, it's a dell wireless 1350 pci card, go to properties. click on the advanced tab and then check the box that says allow other network used to connect through this computer's internet connection, have fun.

oh and btw, u need a network, cat 5 CROSSOVER cable, most regular ethernet cable won't do it but u can try.

Is there some sort of protocol the network adapter has to follow in order to work with the 360? I mean I'm not going to get a some random like $20 adapter and expect it to work but there were a couple $50 and $60 ones I was lookin at. Namely a Linksys Wireless-N Adapter. Anyone got any input?

The Logitech Play Link isn't a wireless networking adapter that uses 802.11x, it uses proprietary RF and maxes out at about 2MBps. I've seen them at Circuit City, though not in a while. They have Ethernet hookups on both sides, one goes into your router and one goes to your console. I'd stay away from something like this as far as possible.

What you need is an wireless-to-Ethernet bridge. The "wireless game adapter" devices sold by Linksys, D-Link, Netgear and the like is a single-console wireless bridge. Designed to hook to a console's Ethernet connection and hook it into a wireless network.

A wireless access point would do the same job, though it takes a little more work to get one hooked up than one of the wireless game adapters, as the game adapter is dumbed down to work with only one device and with simple setup.

You could also buy a cheap wireless router, turn off the routing functions, and use that as your wireless bridge. Also a little more work than a wireless game adapter.

I use the Linksys Wireless G Game Adaptor. It works well although it needs to be reset every once in a while.

I bought mine at Circuit City on sale for $69.99.

Well which one works better and/or is easier to set up: an ethernet-to-wireless or USB?

I just went and bought the official network adapter because no stores sell ethernet-to-wireless bridges. I really appreciate all the input though!

I bought a Linksys adapter for $90. While it's only $10 cheaper it can be used with things other than the 360. Should be able to find it at Wal-Mart since that's where I got mine.

Expensive yeah, but it works.

I had a cheaper Belkin but it was a pain to set up so I got rid of it.

It supports wireless b, g, and can connects up to 4 devices. The signals are great, and stable. I highly recommend it.
I totally second that product.

Very easy to setup. There was an entire thread dedicated to that thing. I bought one because of the positive feedback I was reading in that thread, and I'm glad I did.\

The only problem is that it may be hard to find in-store. None of the CC's or BB's around me had it. Also, the online prices are MUCH cheaper, the retail for that is about $80, but with buy.com (which I completely say NO to) and GCO it's a good deal if you like buy.com (they suck balls) I bought mine from Amazon for $65 shipped. Some CAGs did report finding some at their CCs or BBs so it's YMMV. I also suggest trying a Frys if you have one.

I swooped up an Official Wireless Adapter on Halo 3 launch night for $28.00 .
Some guy was trading it in for credit towards a wireless headset .

Sadly , the old Xbox wireless bridge works better in my 360's present location .

I picked up a set of SlingLink Powerline ethernet bridges from WalMart on clearance for $30 and they have been well worth it.

http://www.amazon.com/Sling-Media-SlingLink-Ethernet-Connection/dp/B000CS7RYM

They support up to 14mbps which is more than enough for gaming or downloading. The only thing it might choke on is streaming HD from your PC. They have newer HomePlug 2.0 powerline ethernet bridges that support up to 200mbps for steaming HD, but they cost well over $100 or so.

Can someone clarify what the requirements are if you want to have a wireless connection? I just bought a Wii and I want it to go online, but I'm currently using a wired set-up for 3 PCs and my 360. I gotta buy the extra Wii Wifi Lan Adapter or get the entire wireless set-up for both my consoles and my 3 PCs. I want to go Wireless for the entire set-up, what would I need?

I've been searching around the threads and FAQS online; I need a Wireless router and a Wireless Access point or a Bridge... so far.

Wireless Router-

Wireless bridge/Access- http://www.buy.com/prod/buffalo-tur...verter-wli-tx4-g54hp/q/loc/101/202009413.html

Is this all I need to set-up a wireless connection for 3 PCs, 360 and a Wii? I don't need a Wireless PCI card or a wireless Modem or anything extra?

Now if I were to get the Official 360 Wireless Adapter, it would be a substitute for the Bridge/Access point right? So I can use Official Adapter to connect all 3 PCs, my 360 and my Wii online at the same time?

Also, is it worth it to go wireless? The wires aren't much of a problem really. It's mainly to get my Wii online. I suppose I could just buy the official Nintendo Ethernet Adapter...

Sorry if my question Hijacks the thread...
The Logitech Play Link appears to be a discontinued item. Is there any current item that functions in the same manner?
Good job bring up a year old thread. Make another one.
