Rather than bumping a three year old thread, I decided to make a new one. I need some tips. Right now I am in the sewers, and I am getting pwned pretty bad. I am still trying to get used to the battle system and everything that's in the game. I keep dying, I have very few credits so I can't buy any new weapons or anything. Does anyone have any tips for the beginning of the game to get me off the ground?

Well, I'm not the best person to answer this, but since you have 0 responses so far, I'll do what I can here. It's been years since I've played the game.

Like all RPG's, try and level up if you can. Just hover near the save point and just take on what you can, then run, heal, and repeat. If you are underleveled, that can happen.

Nothing else is really jumping out at me about this. If I remember right, it was just your typical RPG, so you shouldn't have too much trouble, assuming you are leveled up enough. Have you tried gamefaqs.com too?

Also, I do remember that you should save often (many files) in this game, since there is a bug that can get you later in the game and not let you pass. My first time through the game, this happened to me, and I had to go back about an hour of play. The 2nd time through it, I didn't hit the bug.

Its also been forever since I played this so Im not even sure what part of the game your at.

If your getting owned in combat, I believe you can change an option to make the game turn based, so you can slowly and carefully plot out your moves. I did that a few times when I was playing. Try to keep your distance in combat as you can hit better than the enemies from long range. Try to advance just far enough to alert only the enemies closest to you, that way you can fight them a few at a time, instead of running forward and getting mobbed.

I wish I could help more, but Ive played a hundred games since I played this last.

You're in the sewers early in, yes? With all those Gammoreans (green pigs with axes) and the asshole poison monkeys? Here are my suggestions.

1: It's for the best that your main character uses melee weapons early on. You don't have to upgrade your melee skill or anything - just use swords for the first bit. This is important because your first priority in the sewers should be to...
2: FIND ZALBAAG (the Wookiee). Having him on your side will help things a million times over - assuming your main character is a swordsmen. Switch out Carth or Mission for your new Wookiee friend. Make sure you pick up his bowcaster, but don't give it to him. Give him a sword. Enemies generally target the nearest character - generally melee characters. Having Big Z on your team doubles the number of melee characters, which means that enemy attacks will now be spread over two characters. This will effectively halve the damage done. Besides this, the guy's fucking awesome.
3: Have a gunner lead. I used Mission, since she can disable mines. Maybe Carth can, but I'm not sure on that. Whenever you run into an enemy, fire a shot (preferably a sniper shot), then get your ass behind the main character and the Wookiee.
4: Pause often. Switch often. You should be constantly queuing up attacks for each and every character. Early on, I prefer that my melee characters use standard attacks due to their low stats, and my gunners use sniper attacks.
5: Let the enemies fight it out. There are plenty of opportunities to let the monkeys and the Gammorreans go at it. If, however, you want to help things along...
6: Grenades are your friends. And like all good friends, you must have respect for them, and know when you're getting too close. Grenades work best on crowds of enemies that are not paying attention to you, whether this is because they are already fighting another enemy or because they have not seen you. If they have spotted you, they'll likely chase after you, and the damage will be minimal. Whatever happens, do not get too close to the blast.
7: I said it once before, but it's important: pause. A lot.
8: Get as much antidote as you can. fucking monkey bastards.
9: If you're really desperate, don't level up. That's right, I said it. You can keep accumulating EXP even after you get enough to level up, so you can really do it at your own pace. Besides this, levelling up fully heals you. This means you can save your levels until you are extremely low on health, pause the game, level up, and return to the fight stronger than ever. Don't abuse this, as having unbalanced characters can really fuck you over.
Yeah those monkey assholes have been pwning me. My main character has two melee weapons. I got the wookie, but even with his mighty brute strength he cannot tame the beast that is the asshole monkey. I keep getting barfed on as well.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try to do them. Hopefully it's just trial and error.

BTW, how much side quests and stuff are there? Are they missable at some point? I'm not sure but it seems like it my log, when new things pop up, old ones get erased. But I don't know.

Also the deal with the medicine and the doctor. I got my ass handed to me in the village whenI opened the cage. Like, I died in one hit with the poison and stuff. Is this for later on or what, because they seemed way stronger that the dudes in the sewer.

You might want to only equip one sword, equiping 2 can bring down your accuracy to the point where you almost never hit anything, skills can held reduce the dual wielding penalty.

The monkies things are a bitch, I actually just ran past them and moved on to the next area, for some reason they are quite hard but the enemies in the next area are reasonably weak. You can come back and do the village side quests later when you've got better items and more levels.

You can miss quests, but you've got a decent amount of time before your current areas become closed to you.

Also combat especially early on can be a bit random, if you lose a battle just try reloading and see if you can win the second time, if you still lose reload and have everyone in your party toss out some grenades at the start of the fight.

Yeah now I'm in the base, getting raped by blaster rifles. :D
Not exactly sure where you are, but when blasters start coming into play, bring up the shields. Fast. Those things are lifesavers, and conserving them is a horrible idea. Don't be afraid to use a stim before opening up the next door, either.

As for missing quests? Well, let's just say this: don't hold off on going to Manaan. It's the most boring area in the whole game, but there's a pretty big sidequest on there. If you wait too long, you can't do that sidequest.Save... point?
Yeah I did pick up some Energy shields on the way to the base. If I remember it said they can take up to 200 damage, which seems pretty good to me.
