Try to find a Moviestop. Same company but gives you more for your dvd's.

And AFAIK they no longer trade for cash, only credit, if that matters.
Also why is it that when i click the "Diablo" picture, i get sent to pc games without the Diablo and even when i searched for Diablo, i get no results.
Oh boy...You said there was going to be Diablo op. Where is my Diablo? I dont see Diablo. You promised me Diablo.

Hastings is where I do most of my old DVD trade-ins, but I usually only get $2-3 for a DVD.

DVDs trade in for about $1.50-$3.00. Rarely have I ever seen a DVD trade in for more than $3.

The thing people need to understand about DVD's and media in general is that it is generally NOT something that will increase in value. I have over 300 DVD's, and have sometimes thought of selling some (double dips, need money, etc). But I know I'd never really get much, and in the grand scheme I'd rather just have two of the same movie than deal with selling one for a couple bucks. There are exceptions of course, but I noticed at GS people were often very mad that games and especially movies traded for so little - as my Assistant Manager once put it, it's like a car - once it's off the lot it starts depreciating in value. And then when media is actually worth something - well, ebays the only way ;) Or a decent trade/price for a CAG, but never GS, since you'll get barely half what it's worth.

Really to me trades at GS are all about the convenience - the item doesn't have to be mint, it sells immediately and for a consistent price (relatively), and there is no hassle with shipping or receiving payment. And then since you are most likely looking to buy games, the credit goes right back into that, right away.

My long two cents.

Yes they still take them in for store credit. They also do HD-DVD and Blu-Ray although I bet they don't give any more for them.

I also enjoy the uninformed/desperate/? people who trade in an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray at GS instead of putting it on EBay/Amazon Auctions so I can they buy them for $13-$18, half of what they are retail or even on Amazon. I understand trading a DVD in, but a high-def movie?!

Also, unlike GS's used games and regular DVD's, the used HD-DVD's and Blu-Ray disks are generally in very good condition in my experiences so far.

The dvd trades were by far the best perk of working at GS, at least for me, since I'm more of a movie person than games (wrong forum for me I suppose;)) GS taught me a lot about games and I appreciate them a lot more, but I still love movies (I think it's because the cost difference is so great usually).

I think my best buys at my GS store were:
Rome S1 (Brand New) - $35 I think
Godfather Trilogy (Used but practically new) - $25
NYPD Blue S1 (still never watched) - $15
Stargate SG1 S7/S8 and Atlantis S1 (Need the first seasons before I can even touch these :P) - $15 each

Of course I had the discsount, so I got what I consider reasonable to good prices. Most of that actually has little interest for me, but they were cheap enough so what the heck.

We do take them, only for trade. And we give you crap for them. I would suggest going to FYE if you want cash they give you a good deal on them.

I traded in a stack of junk movies that I got from a wholesale lot auction on ebay. Got more than I paid for each one ($1-2).

Wow, I never thought of that... seems like a good way to get games a bit cheaper.

I think it is amusing when people get mad considreing the cash back textbooks get when you trade them in. "You paid us $90 for this book? I'll give you $2.50 for it back."

sheesh where is your GS? my gamestop stores have the blue ray and hd dvds and they allow the B2G1 free on the hi def films, but i dont have high def.

All of the stargate seasons were mad expensive at GS last i checked, but rome s1 for $35 is very solid. their boxsets are usually pretty reasonable, but its weird that many of their used dvds are brand new, i assume people steal them from other stores and trade them in for $10 at GS.

T

try selling them to other students instead of back to the bookstore.

IN the future, try to check the text books out from your local library, it is usually a longshot but worth looking into

It's about as bad as what they charge for WWE DVDs. All PPV DVDs are $12.99 used(about the same price Wal-Mart charges for them new). Then there are the Wrestlemania box sets. They're selling each ones for $80 a piece(4WM each), while they actually retail for $40 new. GS really needs to get their crap straight if they're going to sell DVDs.

I bougt stargate about a year ago there, so I'm not sure if they dropped in price since then on amazon and such - but I do know that I have not payed over $20 for most tv-on-dvd for at least since before then (it's sort of a rule I have), and since the sets were pretty much new, with my discount I think it was a few buks cheaper than $20 and seemed decent. I can't imagine I paid more than $20 for them, especially since I've never seen the show.

And yes, before GS stopped giving cash for DVD's, it was pretty much an easy way for theives to pawn off stolen goods - sad but true. Our town has just a WM (no BB or CC), so we rarely got what appeared to be stolen goods. But I've heard of some people in other towns that would, every tuesday, come in and trade whatever was a brand new release for cash. And I think stores didn't really check into it with BB or CC since it means more trades and that's what GS likes to see. Of course, if the police ever came to check it out, it's documented. But before cash was stopped, it was basically unchecked.

Oh and I live in Hicksville USA, so we had no HD when I was working there, and occasionally there are a couple things in there, but overpriced for me. Well, and I just got HD... maybe I'll recheck.

yea the thing about GS is they will pay you nothing for a used game or movie, then turn around and sell it for almost brand new prices..

Gamestop is actually a good place to look for used dvds. Some of their boxsets are really cheap and I think they qualify for the buy 2 get 1 free as well.

I'm sure they don't give you diddly when you trade the dvds in though. Probably better off seeing what you can get at FYE if you must go the trade in route.

Yes, but again, all media loses value as soon as it's opened, and it's not as if GS is in it to be nice to people; like any business, they want to turn a profit, which often means buying a game or movie and marking it up 150%. IMHO they are doing exactly what any other company does, and I can't fault them for that. They have plenty of other flaws to be faulted for though.

There is also the fact that you basically have games (and movies) falling into two main teirs: those that are worth something and those that aren't. Very few games fall between, in the area of, "it's worth a bit more but not a lot", and these are usually games that have just been released and there isn't enough data to see if it's worth anything. I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about, but it basically has to do with production run and exisiting copies in print, how saturated the market is, and how much demand there is for that particular item. So GS is great if you're pawning off Madden 2006, and terrible for, say, Marvel vs Capcom 2. You can bring in some crappy Madden game and get $3 for it (as of 07/04/06... so it may be lower), but listing it on ebay is going to be eaten into by ebay fees, paypal fees (if you go that route and I always do), and then time and patience. GS is bing bang boom, you've got $3 credit. But for MvC2, you want to go that route, since GS will screw you out of good money.

I would like to see a new game store dominate america soon, where the focus is customer service. Every company says that's the focus, but money is really all there is. Letting stores run things on the STORE level would make customer service skyrocket. I think I'm OT... holy crap, yes I am.

I guess you are referring to the OP's question? Cause... every day I have people calling me at work to ask me stupid questions, and I always want to say, "Do you have the internet? Use it!"

But for this yah I can see phoning it in being a bit easier.
