I am drawing girls and tentacles

Well, only one girl and a bunch of zombies and tentacles to be exact.

Just a little thread showing the progression of how a little doodle turns into a full piece.

You can see my last thread here: I am drawing an airship.

The entire image is done in photoshop CS with a wacom tablet, which is how I do 95% of my art lately. No actual physical media is involved.

So first up I did this little doodle of Kristy from my comic kristy vs. the zombie army:

I really liked how this came out, considering it was a five minute or so sketch, so I went ahead and came up with a little "story to drop her into:

One person in a crumbling graveyard against an army of zombies and tentacles, this I can get behind.

Next up, a quick ink job in photoshop on Kristy:

Hmm... Something isn't right, she needs some He-Man-esque battle damage:

kristy_gun_4.png

Woo, nice.

Next up, I really wasn't feeling the zombies too much, so I dropped them all together and updated the rough with a bunch more tentacles:

kristy_gun_5.png

This I'm starting to like, and so starts the inking:

kristy_gun_6.png

The horde of tentacles is growing at an alarming rate!

kristy_gun_7.png

All of the tentacles are done now. I am moving onto background details and working on the gravestones.

All the main page elements are complete. Now I need to go back and start adding more details, shadows, and blacking out areas:

More and more details added. Also did the first bit of blacking out some background elements:

Close up of the bird. He is looking unhappy as birds in cemeteries tend to:

I'll keep this thread and the first post updated as I finish more.

Hopefully you liked seeing the progression so far and lemme know what you think!

The right hand (her left) looks very awkward. Its very flat. I'd suggest putting a slight curve in the fingers.

The left side (her right) of her face looks to be slightly too bulgy, though it does look better when you thickened the lines in that area.

Looks like it could turn out good.

Yeah, this is totally not what I was expecting when I entered this thread.

Title is severely misleading.

It totally doesn't give credit to how badass KidNemo is.

I only hope I can measure up someday.

Thanks everyone!

Updated the first post with a few more in progress shots.

It's coming along pretty well so far... but this shiny new unopened copy of Mario Galaxy is calling to me...
You deserve a job making cartoons on Cartoon Network.
Them's fightin' words, as far as I'm concerned. They do too much shit these days.

Cute drawing, I suppose.

Nukkas gotta eat.

Like others have said, the art style is awesome. It's really giving me a modern-take on 50's pulp fiction style feel.

The background detail is awesome, I love all the little things on the headstones, it pops out the world a lot more.

Awesome stuff dude, I'd love to see this colored.
When does she get raped?
me and my friends had this conversation last night when a couple years ago I was buying Anime Porn for one of my friends and this hot chick was the clerk and she was kind of hitting on me until I plopped down like 3 things of tenticle porn and then it was like total disgust and I was so embarrassed.. its all good though.. but this just made me laugh out loud when I saw it..

however..

its a cool drawing i like it.

I'd like to shake your hand, Kidnemo. :D :applause:
Love your work.
who give a fuck nigga it still hot
Who are you, really?

Who are you, really?
I'm quite confused by that question. I'm guessing that's not a "newfag" type response, as I'm pretty much a "regfag".

....did u just call yourself a fag?

I agree. The open hand looks odd. Perhaps try both hands on the raygun? The current pose is a bit masculine for that character.

Kinda liked the zombies, wondered how they would of turned out inked.

great work, amazing talent!

edit: the tombstone she's leaning up against needs some art.

Wait... that's it? Talk about false advertising...

Good picture, though. I really like your style.
What happened to that comic you were drawing about the washed up robot? Washed Ashore?
Still working on it, just haven't had an update in a few weeks 'cause I've been too busy.

If you do the RSS thing, you can add the feed from the site here: http://www.washedashorecomic.com/

Thanks much everyone for the comments and the critques!

First post is also updated with a couple more shots.

Another one for the "hand looks weird" vote. I kinda think it looks she's got an allergic reaction to a bee sting.

The hand is one of the hardest things to draw. This is why alot of cartoon characters have 4 fingers, no fingers ( PPG ) block fingers ( Samurai Jack) and etc. The thing about cartoons is that you can avoid things like that and come up with your own style.

I was all prepared to come in here and say "the hand is a bitch to draw," but it looks like that was taken care of for me.

I needs to get one of those books with extensive help on the matter.

Kid nemo, Listen to the advice people are giving and not just glossing over it to get to the positive. Thats shooting yourself in the foot in terms of improvment.

Never one to gloss over criticisms, I made a few small updates to her hand, let me know if you guys notice any difference:
