Assasin's Creed worth the hype?

CAGiversary!
I do not know which website to listen to. Some praise it and give it a top score while others say it is not as good as they expected it to be. Can I get some CAG input?

Play it yourself. If you have a lot of interest in it (seems you do) then I don't think it would disappoint. 1up went into the review expecting the worse judging from their article in EGM. Not sure how close IGN is, but I bet GS gave a high score to stand out.

I'd say watch the gametrailers video review and see if you still want it

I've been playing it all day today, and had fun the entire time myself. I read the EGM bit about AC as well, and they did alot of complaining that seemed really unfounded..such as controls..

I read Gabes(of Penny Arcades) view on the good VS bad reviews, and I agree. If you're trying to run through as fast as you can its not gonna be fun, but if you go at your own pace and look around you'll see it has quite a bit to offer.

And the leaps of faith never get old

I have been playing it for a few hours and so far it's awsome... the controls take some time to get used to , but once you get the hang it, they are no problems at all.. I think over all it's was worth the wait, and the "HYPE" it got.. I have not had so much fun playing a game in along time.... :)

I have 4 games I want to get next week, and only 60 dollars in TRU credit to use....

COD4
Mass Effect
Assassin's Creed
and
Uncharted

And I just can't decide... I think I'm goin for Mass Effect, and I'll ask for the others for christmas

+'s

Story
Graphics
I like the music/voice overs so sound
controls (They take awhile to get used to but once you do it's second nature)
Jumping/climbing never gets old

-'s

Weak game play
Repetitive

All -n- all though it really is a love or hate kind of game. Also a game you just need to play for yourself.

Pretty spot on. Although by weak game play you mean combat? I thought it was ok, not the absolute best but it worked and I still enjoyed it.

You really have to try this game for yourself though. One of the best game I played in awhile, I can't recall a time when I had this much fun with a game.

Yeah, the combat I felt was the weakest point in the game game play wise. It's not horrible it just could of been done a lot better. Still a good game though.

Agreed. It's like a rollercoaster for me; I hate it when I'm just holding the right trigger and waiting to combo and everybody's just dancing, but sometimes I'll get into a fight where guards will rush at me one after another, really quickly, so I'll actually feel like I might be in danger.

As for the OP, I'd say go for it. Although I can definitely see how the game is repetitive, I've only been able to play it for an hour or two every day, so the reptitiveness may not be affecting me as much, though I'm on the sixth kill. I think it's just a game meant to be taken slowly, not rushed through.

Just my .02.

The whole "Assasins Creed" thing is annoying as hell. "YOU MUST FOLLOW THE CREED" Uh, why? I'm a goddamned assasin. You want to follow a creed go be a monk. The setting of the game ruins it for me too. I love the midevil stuff, but the rest is crap and ruins the setting cause it never seems real.

Well, I just got it today. played about 3 hours of it, got my 2nd assassination done. Gameplay does get repetitive, and the fighting is very poorly done. Storyline is still very iffy to me, controls are complicating but are pretty simple once you get the hang of it and also very fun. This game in my opinion is a solid 8 out of 10.

Thats what I rate it as well, a solid 8.0/10.

I'd give it about that; maybe a 7.5 out of spite, because--despite the 'auto saves'--I managed to lose an hour and a half of playtime due to a clipping bug when I tried to jump into a hiding box.

my .02 on the game......

at first the whole animus story line was kind of a let down. however as the story unfolded i started to like that aspect more and more and after completing the game am now ready for the sequel to see what's going to happen.

the combat and wall crawling, ect were well done and made so that it was easy mutilate multiple enemies at once (took on ~15 many-a-time), to bounce from roof top to roof top to side of a wall to beam, ect. very easy and enjoyable. the gfx look great, the towns are quite large and every inch can be explored/crawled on.

my main complaints with the game was that it was 1) way too easy with no difficulty setting to crank up 2) the a.i. was about worthless (i was expecting more of a splinter cell approach/stealthiness) 3) after the first few assassinations it does become somewhat repetitive

but all in all it was a fun game that brought about some new inovations/ideas that will hopefully be adopted by other games of this genre, i.e. - splinter cell

I personally think the hype, was way bigger than the actual game. Although .. I seem to be ADD w/ games in the fact they don't always tend to hold my interest .. and AC is def. very repitive.

MASS EFFECT.

I've been playing it. I enjoy it so far, but I hate Altair's voice actor. Also, I thought I was going to play as some badass guy and not an arrogant prick. >_

I enjoyed the story for what I played, but tired of the repetative 'quests' after awhile. Only so many times I could climb a building to uncover the map, or save civilians... just not much variety, but it looks good and was fun to play.

In the end, it's a must play, but rent it to see if you will like it first.

Personally; I don't think it is. The graphics are def. nice, and at first the game is enjoyable. However - if you love repitive games ... then AC is for you.

After the first 3-4 hours of gameplay, anything you will do in the game you have already done, it's just in a diff. city, w/ a diff person, or w/ a diff. view.

This game highly dissappointed me.

Can someone post the plot/spoiler?
I played through 3 or 4 assassins and sold it when GS had 30% trade in bonus.
Always wanted to know what actually happened in the current timeline.

I also give it a 7.5 out of 10 because of the repetitive gameplay. After I got to kill number 6, I couldn't wait to just pass the game and skip all the side missions because they got old really fast. I also had to redo one assassination because of the clipping bug while I was trying to jump up onto a rooftop and got "stuck" underneath a pole LOL!

It's not worth the buy, there's pretty much no replay value after you beat it unless you like collecting flags, which is really boring. You should be able to beat it in a week its a pretty short game.

Agreed 100%. Go buy it used, beat it, and resell it when your done.:)

I think it's a great game for certain play styles.

I LOVE to just run around and admire the detail and the structure of the city and hunt for flags most of the time. The actual plot is sort of the background of the fun part for me.

I'm taking my time with it. I about halfway even though I preordered it so I'm taking my time and just admiring the city before I get to the plot. I try to get at least 25~30 flags (per city sector) before I move on.

I actually like the combat the best. It's like blood and gore ballet once you get the hang of it. You can't button-mash, there is a rhythm to it that takes some practice. I've spent the last 4-5 hours just running around fighting the various guards in the countryside. The smaller sword seems more deadly than the long sword does. Or least the kill animations are better using it...

The "plot" has a very cut and paste feel to it. It's mostly a beautiful engine and animation system in search of a coherent game. I hope they make more of it's strengths next time and I agree the combat is a strength, I like trying for combo kills.

The best thing about Assassin's Creed is Kristen Bell's voice work. It includes a bunch of side missions, but I still found this game to be incredibly boring, primarily due to the repetitious play of these side missions. I also agree with 1Up when they criticize the controls. The jumping aspect is very imprecise, and it would have been nice if they included a quick button tap to enter and exit hay bins, as I often accidentally entered hay bins while trying to move around. The fighting system is simple and this simplicity adds to the repetitious complaint. Despite what we were promised, you cannot do what ever you want, and very much adhere to linear guidelines. Assassin's Creed is one of my bigger modern gaming disappointments.

I agree, the game was too repeatitive to me. Not just the side missions, but as killing the bosses as well. The first city was fun, the second was alright, but the third was just boring.

I was expecting soo much more from the game, after seeing it at the gameshow, and the previews

The only thing i did not like was the repetitive missions but other than that i loved it, and i didn't really care about the missions until thinking about it.

I would say worth $20-30 dollars glad I didn't pay full price.

I love the eagle lookouts and the cities are large but really kinda dull and the game is VERY repetitive. The PC version I know has added mission types so that maybe the best route to go.

play it in bursts and slowly. what i did was completely fill every little memory including the save the citizen and view points for every asassination. then after i reported back to the bureau, i planned my point of entry. so i did alot of comparing the patrol routes, guard positions and escape routes. nothing feels better than a perfectly excecuted escape plan.

the best example is in the asassination for te fat king pin guy who is holding a party. i forget his name but after that mission i was completely hooked.

the ending is a little baffling tho. could sum 1 pm me an explanation plz plox.
