Give my Xbox away, sell it or just keep it?

Well it has come to point where I have not touched my xbox since I bought my 360.

I know atleast a dozen of my games do not work with the 360, but a few of them will work in the next BC update. I have been thinking of giving it to my older brother. Selling it would only get me about 40 bucks (compared to the 130 I paid for during the Sam Goody Close out of last year). Or should I just keep it as with the xbox games coming to Live, MS will eventually stop BC support altogether in order to make more money and it would be better just to play it on the old xbox?

suggestions?

I'm the same way. I haven't touched my xbox in a long time. I'm debateing saleing it,but for around 40 as you say I dont think it is worth it. I think I would just keep it incase one day they stop the bc on 360 or if your like me you end up saleing it wishing you still had it. :)

I'd just keep it. Every system I've ever sold in the past, cuz I had new ones to play, I ended up going back and finding again because I wanted to replay some of my old faves. If you're not the type to really replay stuff for nostalgia's sake, give it to your bro, but I'd either keep it, or say you are lending it to him (in case you want it back in the future)

I just want to be able to put in any of my xbox games to my 360 and play them period. Like Castlevania:COD, can't play it on the 360, same with Metal Slug, can't play it. or do you think MS is going to cut out BC support as soon as the titles start appearing on Live Marketplace?
I dunno, but I think it would be stupid for MS to cut BC support for live games.

if u were a doctor, you wouldnt have to worry about this :)

yea but just get rid of it, they arnt making any new games really for it, no point in keeping it. the 360 has plenty of good games to keep u occupied

Mod it. Like I did (see my xbox below). I actually picked up this xbox for $65 for the sole purpose of putting a mod chip in it and a 250gb hard drive (and of course reaping all the benefits that come from that).

Keep it, cause as others have said, you NEVER know when/if you'll wanna play one of your old games again.

I know I missed playing General Chaos and Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the Genesis and had to rebuy one and then look for both of those games. I've only ever found ONE of them(ZAMN) and the other is nigh impossible to find.

modding it isn't my specialty...

Yes I have thought about giving it to my brother as a long term long, but as soon as his son finds about it, he might give it to him.

when the time came to buy a 360, i traded mine in towards my elite...i kinda wish i would've kept it cause id like to play around modding it

So then if he decides to just get rid of it (while making some money) what would be the best course, along with games? eBay (without any seller feedback), Craigslist, or something else?

Duuude, where in Va are you? I just gave my Xbox to the niece and nephew (their Dreamcast's laser finally fried) so I'm looking for a replacement. What model year is it?

Northern VA (fairfax county). How do I find the model number, is it the part number?

Year it was manufactured is on a sticker on the bottom part of the case. Most look for 04 or 05, since those are the better models, I believe.

You can also tell what kind of dvd drive you have in it by checking the disc tray.

There's an easy visual reference guide on a bunch of websites, one of which I think I linked to. If I find it again, I'll link to it.

found it, it said 06-09-2005 :|

I am going to ask my brother if he wants it (I owe him money)... if he doesn't then I might keep it and *try* to mod it as long as I don't fuck it up. I don't know if my brother will even play it. He doesn't have time. He has two kids (5 and 1), and is a manager of a auto repair shop working 12 hrs days.

I'll elaborate a bit more on the dvd drive thing now. There's 4 distinct dvd drives in the Xbox, much like the PS2 laser revisions.

Thomson-first drive, which many claim is the worst, yet some have no problems with it.

Samsung-which many modders love because it's the one which can read many types of writeable discs, but usually only within a certain date range.

Philips- not really as versatile as the Samsung, but still better than the much hated Thomson.

Hitachi-the last drive to be used in the Xbox systems and the one that I have in MY xbox.....has some hiccups on some games(like switching to X button side missions in San Andreas), but is reliable.

Here's a link, which shows 3 of the 4 drives. The Hitachi drive looks like the Thomson, but the middle opening on the tray is noticably wider than the Thomson.

There are two different version of the phillips. The first version of it sucked, but the 2nd version is awesome.

I am pretty sure it's a Thomson drive... I check this when I first turned it on last year. Never had a problem with the system.

All the games releasing on Live are already BC and this will continue to be true as the games on Live are just ISOs of existing backwards compatible games (with a bunch of DRM stuck on). So with Xbox Originals Microsoft now has more reason than ever to continue supporting backwards compatibility.

But none the less, there are bound to be some games that you like that never become backwards compatible so I'd keep the Xbox. Plus it is very cheap and easy to softmod the Xbox and make it a great media player and classic game emulator.

yes I read about this awhile back.. It looks amazing. I wonder if you can customize those backgrounds too. I don't have SC:pT but I am sure I can rent it somewhere at BB and the Action replay device... yes I still have that sucker somewhere!

Not in '05, maybe a Philips.

If you decide to sell it, let me know.

I would keep it and softmod it!!! Trust me you will wanna play it alot more...
And you don't need those games to softmod the HD just HotSwap the HD through DOS on your computer. First you need to find a .img file named AOD...
You can download it from "special places". Then burn the image on CD and load it up before windows loads on your computer, it boots in DOS. Plug a.ka. swap your XBOX HD into your computer when it loads and follow the instructions on screen and thats it.... (Im just giving you a reference, google this procedure and get the step by step guide) Good Luck!!!!

It's the original Splinter Cell (not Pandora Tomorrow) and it's $2 at Gamestop.

oops my bad... yep your right. I will pick it up in the next few days and tear up my room to find that action replay adapter. It's hear somewhere.

softmod is definitely cheaper though (if you have the action replay already). But if you eventually upgrade to a larger hard drive, you'll have to do the softmod all over again since it's tied to the hard drive.

Keep it.....because I'm regretting ever selling my Sega Dreamcast and all mint accessories off.....ahhh....the days of Marvel vs. Capcom and Sega Bass Fishing
