Anyone here paying attention to this game? I tried a search and didn't find a damn thing. I haven't played any MMOGs, but this has really caught my interest.

It's the first mature-rated MMOG, the classes look interesting, and it's garnered a fair amount of praise. Combat will be real-time and will include limb dismembering goodness. This will be hitting the Xbox 360 in Q3 as well.

meh, the release of the game is going to be a beta.

without proper testing, and alot of developers complaing about horrible framerates, I definately wont be picking this up day 1.

The fact that they arent doing a beta for the game to test is mind boggoling.

Rofl, who said they aren't doing a beta. The beta is going on right now. It just hasn't been widely advertised since they take the beta pool from thier newsletter subscribers and aren't advertising for signups outside of that.

its an internal beta with VERY few people in it, without proper open beta testing this game is going to be a complete dud the first few months, FACT.

when the game finally releases, thats going to be the open beta, the demo they say they will be releasing 1 week before is supposed to be the beta.

seriously, 1 week before the open beta is going to change what on the release of the game?

nothing.

When the game comes out, that will be the beta, every1 who purchases the game on day 1 will be playing a beta.

I dont practice getting hyped for betas, or paying to play them.

Hundreds of people is not what I would consider "few" people.
Open betas are used to stress test the server and in some newer mmos, for promotion of the game. - Which is what they are doing. Open beta for a week to stress test the servers and for a little promotion. Lots of recent mmos have done this exact same thing before release.

It's obvious you are not following the game as closely as some of us or you would have known that there are tons of people testing it in the closed beta.
Nice job trolling though.

Hundreds =/= tons.

Do you honestly believe a couple hundred people is enough to stress test a server?

Nice job name calling, because I really want to troll.:whistle2:|

but thats fine, buy the game day one, I cant wait to see the threads of glitched quests and or server instability.

A closed beta does not mean it's a useless beta. There are thousands, not hundreds of people in the closed beta right now. The fact that you aren't getting any news about the game is because people in the beta are under a NDA. This is the same as Warhammer Online, which has a few hundred thousands testers worldwide.

Neither of these games need an open beta. In fact, most games with open betas are crap when they're released. Hellgate: London is a prime example. Public testing isn't going to change how good the game is going to be.

Most of the time it's about releasing the game in a fiscal window. IMO that's the case with Age of Conan, but even then I'm still hopeful they can pull something off.

With WAR, they're really taking there time so even if you never hear of the game until it ships, there's a good chance it'll be awesome.

MMORPGs rarely launch smoothly. It has almost nothing to do with beta testing; it depends mostly on the amount of polish the devs choose to put into the game beforehand.

If you're looking for a smooth day-one experience, don't play MMOs. In fact, don't play PC games at all. There are a ton of patches for high-profile games. Just because they might run better later on doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it if you want to play it.

so you're saying beta testing doesnt do anything?

stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Don't put words in my mouth. How about you read my whole post before you say shit. PUBILC betas are NOT more useful than closed ones.

Looks like the devs. agreed it needs more polish. Happy?

Goddamn dude what is your problem.
So testing a game with limited amount of people, is just as useful as releasing a full fledged open beta with thousands to millions of people and testing it that way?

Just think about what you're saying.

Im not sure whats your problem, I say the game will need more polish before its released (your link proves that it does), I say the initial release of the game will be a beta, and I say that I dont want to pay to play a game in a beta stage, and somehow you guys cant take it, and in some wierd way it hurts your feelings.

Im sorry this game you really want will initially be a beta, that you're going to pay for, but im not.

Enjoy your beta.

:D

Fact remains you don't know anything about the game and are probably basing your opinions on prior experience and some crappy official screenshots. I'm not playing the Age of Conan beta, nor do I have any interest.

However, I'm not going out of my way to be a cynic about everything. Just please, get your facts straight before voicing any unsubtantiated claims.

You gave me the link where the devs said they need to work on it more, they just delayed the game to work on it more, how are they unsubtantiated?

Proving my point of them needing to test the game in an unabided open beta, properl,y and not some silly little closed internal beta.

you should seriously get a life and not worry about what one person thinks about a game, BUT you definately are going out of your way to defend a game you dont even have any interest in.

They will probably release a beta now, and hey maybe you wont have to pay for it.

:applause:

No MMO launches completely finished, but Age of Conan looks to be one of the more polished ones to release in a long, long time. They have the luxury of being well-funded and self-published, and they're delaying until the game is ready for a real launch. That's something few MMO developers ever get the opportunity to do.

An open beta, at this point, is nothing more than a marketing tactic. If you use it to actually test, all you'll accomplish is a tidal wave of negative reviews from people who came to play a free game, not test one in progress. I can't see how that does anything to help them, but it sure does a lot to hurt.

Woah, Woah.

So when you say it's in real time, does that mean you press a button to attack and it does it or is it like WOW where you press a button, wait for it to cast, then wait for it to cool down?

Edit:
You can sign up for the beta now. I just signed up. Hopefully I get in because this game looks fucking amazing

Fileplanet has the download for the open beta for the next few days if you are a member.
Is anyone going to try this game out?

I plan on trying it since funcom have done a really nice job with anarchy online. I defintely believe they have the experience and ability to make it a good game.

I'm just waiting to find a store that has the rhino preorder code instead of the mamoth.

Sadly I only played GameSpot's PvP beta for 20 minutes (not even enough time to get to the PvP portion of the beta).

I want to give this game another chance, but I hated the slow start/instanced newbie area. Combat was pretty fun though.

Slow start? I didn't think it was slow on the preview I was able to play a couple weeks ago. Granted I didn't play the PvP Weekend Build so I can't comment on how different it was from the General Beta build I got a chance to play.

Wonder if they've fixed the nippless character models yet...
Is anyone going to try this game out?
I'll be in the Open Beta seeing as what I got to play a little bit of piqued my interests if that's what you're asking. Either under the name of Draekon or Sorcha most likely.

I'm a FilePlanet subscriber (I wouldn't recommend paying for it but it comes included with my high speed cable modem package)...

The beta is still hard to get in. They're making keys available in small batches and you have to check the website to get them, first come first serve. I don't have time to refresh their webpage all day trying to get a beta key!

So in case you're considering signing up just to get in the beta, well, I'd advise againist it because you still might not get a key.

A bunch of my friends are getting this for their PCs but I don't have a $1000 that can play it. Do you guys really think the 360 version won't come out till next year?

You can download their stupid Comrad application (Like an instant messanger) and then add one of their ambassadors to your list and you'll get a message the moment it's put up that day. It's probably your best bet if you want a key.

I did that and happened to be on the computer when they put it up yesterday and got in. Now that piece of crap is off my computer and I didn't notice any spyware/adware from it.

Even if it comes out this year, I don't know if it will have cross platform play available.

More excited for this game than GTA4. Been reading all through betaleaks.com for weeks.

This game is going to itch my mmo scratch and be everything WoW wasn't (for me).
I have ( ONE ) spare beta key. Cagiversarys only.

First to PM. And i hope whoever does knows that they can run this so its not a waste :)
PM sent :D

For anyone who is interested....
The ellusive War Rhino mount preorder is now available at best buy.

Just got back from my local one on the way home from the P.O. and luckily they had a few preorder boxes left.
Didnt see any CE preorder boxes, just the normal ones, but they do in fact have the war rhino mount!

Don't know how long they have been out or how popular they are, but you might want to go soon since my BB only had about 5 boxes left after I picked 1 up. I have a feeling that the rhino is the hardest one to get out of all the preorder bonuses.
jeez where you getting all these? Nice :)
Conan himself wished for me to hand out beta passes or have my arms ripped off.
any way to get a key without being a fileplanet member?
It looks like it's FilePlanet only as it's being named "IGN Beta Event" and not "Open Beta" much like "Gamespot PvP Beta Event" that took place a week ago or so. Unless of course you can get one from Metalic if he gets anymore extra keys, wherever he's getting them from.

This is from my E-mail

Not sure if it works for everyone or not.

Edit: Im going with thrustbuckets link though. Even as a FP subscriber there speed was shitty with so many people dling from them. 150-200 KB's mostly. Easily getting 300 kb's+ from the torrent and its staying far more consistent. Not to mention with the mirror problems FP is having with the client so if you cancle your dl from them itll make you redo it all over ( Thats with there DL client you can install )

To anyone in the Fileplanet Beta, you may want to run the client tonight to get the update rather than doing it once the beta starts. Seems to be at least a couple hundred MB worth of patches that you probably don't want to put off until when everyone is trying to hit up the patch server.

EDIT: It's up finally. Looks like the servers went live half an hour before the last time they gave us. If anyone cares I'm on second server of three available right now. Name is Sorcha.

I got on last night and made it into town, level 5. Pretty fun. If I still like it tonight I guess I'll finally preorder it. Games For Windows sent me a $5 discount for Amazon's preorder, and since Amazon has free shipping that's probably what I'll do. I hear the only place to get the "War Rhino" is Best Buy.

Uh oh, GoGamer.com and Amazon.com no longer have the Collector's Edition up! Well, I guess that'll save me some money. The only CE thing I wanted is the XP bonus ring.

Well before that I'd work on getting to level 13, the max level in beta. I just finished up getting my character (Sorcha) to there. So I've thrown in maybe around 4 to 5 hours total.

- I've got a black screen of 'not responding' about 5 times upon zoning.
- Unresponsive loading/zoning screen about 6 or 7 times.
- Lag so far has been mostly non-existant on server 2.
- Assassin's aren't built to tank.
- Combat is pretty fun/engaging but I don't know how long that'll last.
- Single-player quests were pretty tough as I did them as soon as I could do them. (At the last one it has a popup for an Age of Conan pre-order...)
- The multiplayer area is possible to solo, but it seems like partying may be a better option.
- Some quests don't give much experience but quest items don't take up inventory space so it doesn't hurt to do them while you're out there.
- Haven't partied yet so I don't know how effective exp in parties is.
- Only death penalty I noticed when I died above level 10 was -2 attack / -2 magic for half an hour and I don't think it stacked as I think I did die again but unsure if it was during the first timer or not.

If anyone wants to set up a time to start the game from the beginning some time (as I have a max beta char already) feel free to throw out a day/time. Interested in seeing how partying works.

Sure, I'll be on tonight. You have to solo to town and that's where I am right now. I'm on beta server 4, and forgot my character name already (I was crashing over and over after character creation so I had stopped putting any effort into character creation.)

I think I could commit to playing from around 8pm to 11pm eastern time, perhaps a little earlier or later. PM me.

If you find and 'pray' at your gravestone where you died, it should eliminate that debuff. Oh, and that debuff can stack 3 times.

We should all get on one server so we can quest together. I'm on server 1 right now but I'll switch over.

BTW, what resolution is everyone running at, what settings, and what framerate do you get?

I get around 20-40 on high at 1680x1050
