I wanted to post this on Thursday, when I bought mine, but the forums were obviously down. I already owned a Darth Vader one that I got at a Spencer's for very cheap, and I have always wanted to pick up another model. Just not at $100+, though. Anyway, I saw these at a RadioShack and decided to get one.

Basically, it is a plain base that has a Force FX blade (lights up, reacts to contact, etc.) and makes all of the sound effects (they are slightly different from the ones my Vader blade make). It comes with about 20+ parts that you cn attach to customize the lightsaber. There is also a switch that allows you to change the blade color (red, blue, and green are the available colors).

Now, these are not nearly as good as the true Force FX lightsabers. The parts are mostly plastic, and the blade is a bit shorter, though I do believe it still is longer the Yoda saber. All in all, though, for $70, I found this to be a good buy for a Star Wars fan. It is pretty cool to be able to switch the parts around every once and awhile and change the blade color. Unfortunately, though, it does not come with a stand. It seems like they were gearing this more towards kids, even though they still warn you in the instructions that you shouldn't use them for playing.

Kit looks kinda meh for the price. I'd expect a bit more, may be my inner-cheapass though.

These on clearance? Or just a sale?

They were on "manager's special," but judging by the fact that they aren't available on their site (listed at $100, by the way), I'd say that any stores that have them are probably trying to get rid of them. Master Replicas lost the license to produce Star Wars prop replicas and such, and these have "2002 - 2007" printed on them in a big font, so I'd say it's clearance time. I should have put YMMV on the subject, though. I'll fix that, now.

As I said, these are most certainly not as good as collector's items or display pieces. Still, for $70, it's a pretty good deal. The cheapest I have seen the regular Yoda model, the short one, is about $90, so this was a good pick-up for me, as I was in the market for another Force FX saber.

Believe it or not, one of these was actually up $115 on eBay last night, but I didn't watch the auciton, so I don't know where it ended.

Thanks for the heads up on this deal, I will scout the local radioshacks to see what I can find.

To follow up, I did see this deal at another RadioShack, so for anyone looking to pick one up, hopefully it is nationwide.

I work at Radio Shack and purchased one of the lightsaber construction kits for $30. Depending on if you can find them or where you look, you can get them really cheap because no one wants them and the stores are tying their best to get rid of them.

Wow, if I could find some for $30, I would pick at least one more up.
