-New weapon Scorcher (Flamethrower) "most realistic fire in a game we've ever seen"
-5 vs 5
-Assasination gametype altered. everyone respawns until their leader is dead. when the leader is killed they stop rewpawing and the game ends when everyone is dead on one team.
-Assasination renamed 'Guardian'.
-New gametype 'Wingman' 10 players split into teams of two.each team is played as different character (eg marcus and marcus vs Dom and Dom etc)
-Features Matchmaking
-Exectucions now vary on the weapon you holding (eg sniper rifle will be used like a golf club)
-Curb stomp returns
-'Y' will cause your character to unleach several brutal punches to a downed enemy, killing him.
-'A' will cause you to pick up the enemy and use him as a shield. The player your using as a shield will go to the respawn line.
-New gametype 'meatflag' sort of like CTF but epic have done this in their own way. The flag will instead be character wandering around the centre of the map. He has his own weapons and even a place on the leaderboard.
To capture him you will need to down him and pick him up as a meatshield and take him back, slowly, to your base. If you shoot the meatflag enough times while he's being dragged back to base, his captor will loose him and he'll go crazy on everyone around him.
-Specific weapons will cycle round the maps.
-Stopping power - if your running towards an enemy but he is firing straight into your chest, you will slow down.
-The oppurtunity to spawn with either the lancer or hammerburst.
-Hammerburst gone through significant alterations. The faster you tap the the right trigger, the faster it fires. quicker shooting = more recoil however.
-New weapon Medusa. could be considered a power weapon. 6 shots per burst.
-Bullet shields. big metal shield that stops you from getting hit. can be planted into the ground to make a new cover. enemies can kick it down though if they get close enough.
-Grenades can be stuck anywhere. not just on enemies. they can be planted on the ground, walls, doors etc to produce a proximity mine.
-smoke grenades carry a stun effect that ragdolls anyone in range.
-new weapon poison gas grenade. produces a cloud of smoke that kills anything that lingers in it. they can be stuck onto enemies were the will slowly die. people stuck by the gas grenade can also injure team-mates if the get too close.
-On games with no respawn, when you are dead you can fly around the map as a "ghost cam". You can even take screenshots that will be uploaded to the community.
-Gridlock returns. However its more overgrown now, plants and grass growing.
(everything is still the same though- cars are where they where etc)
-New map - 'river' - symetrical map, each team has a thin strip of land with a house and sniping tower, and inbetween them a river.
-New map - 'Security' - long thin map. to the left and right are stairs leading to veranda's that run the entire length of the map. you are barred access however by red lasers, which will kill you if attempting to pass through. A power weapon is barred on the other side of the map while at the other it is defended by sentry guns. There is a button in the middle of the map that turns the lasers and sentry's off for 20 seconds.
-New locust 'hammerhead' (helmet makes him look sorta like a hammerhead shark)
-New locust 'Grenadier' (this is the guy we saw in the video were marcus punches him to death)
-Two people can chainsaw one guy at the same time.
-New cog 'Tai' has aboriginal tattoo's.
-New cog 'Dizzy' "looks like chuck Norris"
-Cole returns for multiplayer at least.
Thanks RelentlessRolento!

Don't get too excited, they're clearly not gonna tell us diddly.

A) who gives gamepro an exclusive?
B) the one image they used is clearly nothing to write home about and probably photoshopped by a gamepro intern.
C) They're probably just going to say "GoW is awesome, expect news at GDC."

I'm anxious, don't get me wrong. But, this "article" won't be a big deal. I guarantee it.

I have ten dollars on Gears 2 is going to be the PC extra content(the levels, not the editor tools). I am not going to get excited just yet. I just hope the campaign is longer. And I want to fight that big fucker from the preview.

Well, Kotaku did mention that it is going to be a brief article. To me, any info is great. IF they say more MP modes, or 4 player co-op (which IMO is a standard now) ir vehicle play, I will be pissing my pants.

Did we really needed a confirmation for this sequel.....hell noooooo!!!!Gears was the game that made me buy a 360, and countles nights I went to work with almost no sleep thanks to the online deathmatches....Now the question is not when it will release, the question is will it sell more this time around? It will come before christmas, that is a fact....now I wonder where is UT3, for my 360?This puts the priorities on GoW, do we really need UT3?

C'mon guys have faith. Gamepro ALWAYS delivers. Mark Rein's just lying to make us more excited when we see megaton after megaton of information packed into another exciting issue of Gamepro!

I agree, Mark is shooting it down because they wanted it to be a surprise announcement at GDC.

fuck Vegas 2 - the disguised expansion, I want GOW 2 news.
read my thoughts why don't you..:)
Here's to hoping for a longer (and 4 player online Co-Op) campaign.
This is the main thing I'm looking for. A really long four player coops campaign. And I want to be able to do things significantly different if I play it a second go through. Yes. This is the day I stop playing COD4. I just wish.

I hope they scrap the old MP system, and put in one like HALO 3. (Please not COD 4's, something is messed up with that one.)

Also, I caught this article, but it seems VERY untrustworthy:

Gears of War 2
We loved Epic's system seller as much as the next gamer. Probably EVEN MORE. But, come on, after the neverending hype it had... it patently wasn't finished, was it? The whole 'leaping into a jeep and roaring off just as the long-awaited Brumak tottered into view' reeked of a stitch-up, and when it was announced at E3 that PC owners would be getting a shedload of extra content... that was a ripe fart in the face for 360 owners.

Except, if you really believe those naysayers then you're missing the bigger picture. As critically acclaimed as it was, Gears ended up being a sacrificial lamb to some extent. Why? So that the true blockbuster - Gears 2 - a bigger, better, ballsier and markedly more ambitious outing could shine even brighter. Epic are already well into development with their Halo 3 killer; in fact, by the time it's announced to widespread gasps and hollers at the climax of the Microsoft presentation at E3 '08 in the summer, Gears 2 may even be at a stage where it's on course for a 'shock' Christmas 2008 release.

Don't believe it's possible given Epic's tradition of not releasing games until they're done? How about this: the hard work has been done already in Gears 1; the world, the characters, the engine, animations, multiplayer, it's all already in place. Gears 2 is all about refinement and spectacle. Certainly, the additional content in the PC version of Gears 1 is going to be highly symp-tomatic of what we can expect in Gears 2. You can bet too that Epic'll be gauging its critical and commercial reception as a dry run for their sequel.

At this moment, the Unreal Engine 3 is being tweaked so that monstrosities like the Brumak can now be brought to life and battlefields are far more expansive - more bosses, tides of larger enemies and a nippier frame rate.
If Epic are confident enough to give their Unreal editor toolset to Joe Public, just imagine what kind of wonderlands their designers are whipping up. The five fresh chapters exclusive to the PC version, all featuring large-scale out-door 'trench warfare' style mash-ups, are a taste of what we'll be playing in the sequel. Put your mortgage on tidied up vehicle sections (the Krill escape was clever, but fatally flawed), and - whisper it! - taking to the skies for an on-rails airborne encounter as Epic attempt to mix gameplay up a bit.

Interestingly, President of Epic Games Mike Capps mentioned in an interview this month that Gears' super-popular multiplayer mode was almost given the chop because he "thought it wasn't coming together fast enough". Yet now that CoD4 has come along with its near-flawless matchmaking and multilayered levels of customisation, Epic are going have to raise their game to compete.

Again, while the PC version boasts a new multiplayer mode and refined lobby system, the coding team will be looking demonstrate more ingenuity in multiplayer Gears 2. Like, one player becoming a Berserker and chasing down rival humans or Locusts; and a survival face-off to see who can stay alive as wave after wave of Krill bear down on you. Other things on Epic's 'To Do' List: a longer, deeper Campaign; new weapons, including a flamethrower; four player co-op; a class system; new executions; more choice in the branching level design; true destructible cover; enhanced squad AI and - finally! - a half-decent grenade tossing system. Oh, and a story which kicks things on - but also looks back. That means a playable prologue mission detailing exactly what Fenix did to wind up in the slammer. Exciting stuff.

Not to mention it was written in late december. Eww.

They however did just post this today:

GEARS OF WAR 2
If you're a regular reader you'll know we've already bet the house on this one being announced. Also, you may not have heard that there's actually a book prequel due out in August - the bewilderingly long-winded Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars - The Battle of Aspho Fields. Could that be an indication that we might not get a sequel, but a ... prequel?

Im calling bullshit on the prequel idea. The ending of Gears of War was just structured perfectly for a sequel.
I thought Gears was okay, but not great. Multi= teh p00p
Wow.

I probably logged over 100 hours in GOW multiplayer. Halo 3? Less than 2 hours so far (bought it at launch).

GOW is the best game on the 360, arguably - there are many great games that come close. But GOW2 would be as big or bigger system seller than Halo 2 was.

I too logged 100's of hours onto GOWs MP and although it was great there are a couple things that bugged me about it.

1. You need team work, which meant you always needed to be in a party which was difficult to set up in ranked matches. Not to mention no matchmaking.
2. Its a love it or hate it game. Plain and simple.
3. There was no competition when it came out. No Halo, no COD 4. It was the 360 game.
4. The MP modes were a bit underpolished, there were annoying glitches and all the MP modes were exactly the same crap. Not to mention the achievements were all broken. I have over 10,000 kills and still no seriously. :bomb:
5. High learning curve, especially now.

Not sure why you make the comparison to Halo, maybe because it is cool to hate on Halo, but I would rather play Halo than GOW, but I do occasionally pop in GOW, and its a blast.

Here is to hoping GOW 2 doesn't stray too far from its predecessor. In terms of MP, it just needs matchmaking, and maybe a 6 on 6 mode where you respawn, but not objective based like Annex.

QFT, these are pretty much my sentiments. Same for GoW and Halo 3 too.

To this day, no game has shown up the graphical achievments of Gears. Bioshock's (unbelievably gorgeous, most beautiful game graphics and art-wise I've EVER played) were equal or just slightly better.

I LOVED Gears multiplayer and enjoyed how you just HAD to use tactics/teamwork when playign a skilled team. Even if was just stickin together or flanking in groups of two. I also enjoyed teh size of 4 on 4 games. Perfect.

I made SOOOOoooooo many friends playing Gears, some of which I still talk to even though we don't play gears that much. I don't know why but it seemed more condusive to just having a relaxed/chill time playing online. This may jsut be because I played so many hours.

So obviously I am really really excited about GoW 2.

Also the single player campaign/co-op, SICK.

All just my opinion of course.
as long as they add some sort of deathmatch or mode where i dont need to be in a team
Gears free for all would be $$$.

Easy fix to that, don't play ranked.

I've never gotten into Halo multiplayer. Not exactly sure why. But Gears really spoke to me. No, it isn't tournement worthy because of random factors like two chainsaws. But it was just a lot more fun to me. Halo just felt like every other FPS I had played for the last decade on the PC.

Gears isn't one of my favorite shooters of all time or anything like that, but it was really fun, and the multiplayer was great.

GoW single player/coop with Halo MP would be pretty damn awesome in my book. I absolutely loved the SP/Coop of gears, but couldn't stand the MP, which I'm sure had a lot to do with the fact that I'm not very good at shooters, and GoW MP seemed to be all about 'leet' skills.
WTF are leet skills????

I thought it was a form of speach popular on the internet.
Every single time I'd play Gears MP, I'd get owned by sniper rifle from a billion miles away anytime I'd poke around a corner to see whats up. Like I said, I'm not very good at shooting games (mainly because I don't enjoy them much), and it was so annoying to never really have a chance to improve due to insane sniping.

It's one of the main reasons I like Halo 3 MP (besides the sniper games). It lets you feel like you are improving your skills and getting good practice without getting instantly owned.
Every single time I'd play Gears MP, I'd get owned by sniper rifle from a billion miles away anytime I'd poke around a corner to see whats up.
Lulz.

Yeah, sniper rifles aren't for straight shots from ''a billion miles'' away. I always used the sniper for people standing inches from me.

You probably kept getting picked off because a ) you'd peek out one too many times giving someone the chance to bust you in the head b ) you would be stupid and aim from cover with your lancer at somebody with a sniper rifle.

I was typing choice C out, but it looks like you covered it when you said you sucked at FPSs.
I thought Gears was okay, but not great. Multi= teh p00p
I enjoyed the first game, I do agree online multiplayer was not the best for me .. I hated the long wait times, as just one reason why. Online Co-Op story though was amazing. I must have played through it 5-6 times just through co-op.

I actually can say I am anticpating this game. Hopefully there will also be online co-op story .. and some improvements on multiplayer.

Hell, my GF used to beg me to stop playing Halo 3 (which she hated) for GOW. :bouncy:
Lulz.

Without a doubt it was. It was also setup nicely for a prequel. You start in a prison, with no back info on why/how you got there. You visit your fathers secret underground lab that no one seemed to know about.

I am not saying that a sequel wouldn't happen. I just find it almost as plausible that they do go with a prequel. I guess it depends on how much of a (back)story the book delivers and if they feel the need to make a game out of it.

Welll, I think I heard that Gears is supposed to be a triquel, so maybe 2 could finish the storyline, and 3 could explain it all.

Suprised no one posted this yet.

By Mark Rein of Epic
Gears of War 2 hasn't officially been announced yet, but our sources rumor that the sequel to the Xbox 360 hit is indeed coming in 2008. And what better way for Microsoft to counter Metal Gear than with a few gears of its own. But it's not enough to just retread shooter territory in Gears 2. The first game was great, but it didn't blow anyone away with originality. It simply put all the best aspects of other shooters into one amazing package. And aside from the obvious graphical superiority and online co-op mode, most of Gears of War was standard shooter stuff.

Why would they make the multiplayer like Halo 3? That's not for Gears...it's for Halo 3. If you want a run and gun game then go play Halo 3, but for a more tactical title go for Gears.

Unless of course you mean Halo 3's matchmaking system...then it's ok.
