What are the best prepaid credit cards?

Chuplayer

CAGiversary!
I need to get one for something (NOT PORN), and I've got to know which ones have no problem with ordering online. I heard that some online stores won't take those cards because they don't have a proper cardholder's billing address. Some cards let you go online and set a billing address up. I need to know which ones let you do that.

Thanks everybody.

EDIT:

It just shipped, and I told you guys I'd tell you what I was going to get. I didn't want it to go out of stock before I had a chance to get it even though I'm sure nobody here wants it anyway, but I didn't want to advertise too soon.

Told you it wasn't porn.

Thanks to $hady for recommending the visa gift card. That's what I used.

I buy them time to time from Kroger (also seen them at Walgreens & CVS). Reloadable Greendot or regular prepaid credit cards. They are like $25, $50, $100 +$3.95 activation fee on the non reload ones. They work online or offline, you just go to giftcardbalance123.com and enter your mailing address and it links it to the card. Greendots I think are a little higher and require a social security number while the regular giftcardbalance123 non reloadables to not require a social just a name and address.

I used the one I got the other day for porn and I assume you will as well. You very much like me are a sick sick person. Signed up for $5 3 day trial to 2 networks of sites and then downloaded EVERYTHING and spent the remaining credit on the card the next day so the porn sites couldn't hit my card for anymore. lol

It's not porn. I've already bought porn. I have no reservations about having porn arriving at my house or having anybody know that I bought porn.

I just don't want to deal with the hassle of something in particular. Prepaying a card to set aside how much I'll feel comfortable overestimating and then finding out how much is on it later would be better than putting it on my debit card and not knowing exactly how much I'm being charged. It's not an irreputable site. I just don't want to jump through hoops to find out exactly how much I spent because that's going to be the case.

I'll reveal what I'm buying after I get it.

As for the Greendot cards, I'll have to check those out. The activation fee doesn't seem that bad either. Wait, a social security number? WTF? There's no way I'm going to do that!
Judging by what you want, I think that PayPal would be best.
Except for the whole them not accepting it thing.

I've always used Simon.com. You order the card then they send it to your email within a day. It has your billing address on file and everything

I don't know if you're trying to establish, or re-establish credit. I know Bank of America has this whole "fully secured" credit card that you back up with your own money. Minimum to start it is $300. You can raise it in increments of $100. The way it works is you give the bank $x00 dollars. They take that money and hold it for a year. You can only charge what you put down as your limit. You get a monthly statement and so forth. After one year, as long as you've never been late on or missed a payment; nor went over your limit, you get your money back and it becomes a regular credit card. One thing though, they do charge you an annual fee of $29 for the year. Once it becomes unsecure, you get your money back and no more annual fee.

He means a paypal virtual credit card (generates a single use mastercard). Theres this thing called a search button maybe you should look into it sometime. Oh one more thing commerce bank has free prepaid ccs if you have an account with them. They are not linked to you either (you register them online).

cheers,
mike

I'm not looking to establish credit or anything like that. It's just that there's going to be a degree of uncertainty to exactly how much I'm going to spend, and I don't want that mucking up my check book.

As for the Paypal credit card thing, that probably still doesn't help because of the uncertainty of the transaction.

The Simon card sounds interesting. Commerce bank also sounds interesting, but I don't have an account with them. I'm thinking of getting one, though, because they have much better hours than my current bank.

As someone who worked for Commerce, I'll say its the best damn gift card out on the market. You can also register it online and put your info on it in case its lost or stolen and so you can purchase things online. Check out the site.

I got one of these for my birthday last year and while the activation fee/purchase price on the card is $5.95, it's unlike those other pre-paid CCs, which charge a monthly fee to keep the card. Although, if the card is inactive for X amount of time, they DO start to charge a fee for that. The fee may be as high as $5 or as low as $1-2, but it's still there.

The only thing wrong with the Vanilla Visa ones is, they have a set 'expiration' date(mine is 4/08), so you feel as if you're on a time limit to use the credit.

But, otherwise, they're great. I'm thinking about plunking some $$$$ I just made off my old gen games onto 1-2 of them and using them to buy a PS3 or something.

Oh and the best thing, you can check your balance 24/7 at NO charge online OR on the phone.

Here's some info about any fees related to Vanilla Visa: https://www.vanillavisa.com/gcreports/termsandconditions.jsp

Another one to look into are the Green Dot cards, though they have ALL SORTS of fees associated with them.

Green Dot fees:

Green Dot monthly maintenance fee: $4.95 for unlimited transactions
Automated Phone Balance Inquiry: .75
ATM Balance Inquiry: .50
ATM Cash Withdrawl: $2.50
ATM Declined Withdrawl: .50
Activation: "suggested MSRP of $9.99"

Here's the linky for Green Dot: https://www.greendotonline.com/contents/Products.aspx

Wow they let you DL everything on a trial ? ;)

Since we're on the topic of gift cards, does anyone know what ones will work with Paypal? I used Vanilla Visa card a little over a year ago just to have my address confirmed and be able to send money. The only funds I get are from survey sites that only send money by Paypal and I only buy things or pay my seller fees.

It expired and I have about $30 in my account that I can't use. I bought another Vanilla Visa just to find out that they've banned them. ;_;

With all the horror stories I've heard, I don't feel comfortable with them having my bank information.

See, that's the only problem with Vanilla Visa that I've run into, since it's read by some sites as being a 'debit card', but most larger chain stores will read it as a credit card with NO problems.

As for the problem you ran into, I have no idea, since I always do my transactions by check(from the survey sites, but I DON'T TAKE PERSONAL CHECKS), Postal Money Order or good old reliable CASH MONEY.

I'm sure someone will have the answer though.

All of em have fees out the ass, but I got 2 for xmas this year and they both had a 3.99 fee on top of the denomination you wanted to buy.

Enjoy online gambling!

The Vanilla Visa seems to be the one with the least amount of fees that I've seen. Believe me, I read up on it and I don't intend on keeping the card past its expiration date in April of this year, since there's a fee to transfer the remaining balance and the card I have barely has $7 on it and the fee would eat it all up.

Well, I got the Vanilla Visa one as a gift for my bday and it's been great thus far, so if the Commerce one required me becoming a customer of theirs, I'd say the Vanilla Visa one.

Has anyone determined if you can buy a Visa gift card using a "different" address than you own and just have them email the card number to you? I really want to get around the blackk out rules for subscribbing to games on the computer.

I just hope you don't mind paying $5 a month in 'maintenance' fees if you wanna keep using the Green Dot card for unlimited purchases, Chuplayer, since they will take off $5 a month from you on the Green Dot ones.

Mind you, you can do many things with it that the Vanilla Visa card I have won't let you do(like cash from ATMs), so maybe it's better in that way.

I only have about .05 left on my VV card, so I plan on using it whenever I sign up for crap that requires a CC# to sign up on those 'free offer' sites.

I didn't get the Green Dot. I got the Visa gift card. The maintenance fees don't start till a year later, and it'll be spent long before that.

I got a Vanilla Visa card as a gift recently. I have my own bank card too. Let's say (I'M JUST SAYING) that I want to use the Vanilla Visa for porn? Is it safe to do so? Does the person that buys the Vanilla Visa have to register their personal information to track the card or something? I don't want the person that gave me the card to find out...

I've seen this thing called webcertificate. It's like a virtual prepaid master card that uses the browser to show your card's info, like that paypal feature.

Anyone know if you can use it to activate a paypal account?
It's not porn. I've already bought porn.
People buy porn? Was it hooker? Unless it's a hooker, you lost out. Even then, if you won, you may have won a rash. I guess this present purchase is an ointment. Makes sense.

i've been fucked over on bank transactions so i got a greendot card to do my online spending with.. its not too bad.. the fees aren't that bad (they send me an email every day letting me know how much is on my card and stuff so its not like they charge me).. and yeah 5 bucks a month and 5 bucks to load it is a lot better then paying 25 bucks when for that 2 dollars you went over at mc donalds or something.

i never thought about porn though.. good idea..

but anyways.. i didn't like the visa pre paid gift card thing it kept charging me to look at it.. and you can't activate it without looking at it.. i lost like 8 bucks before i got to pay for what I wanted to.
where can i purchase vanilla visa cards? i cant find on their site where you can purchase. thanks
Many convenience stores have them(think 7-11) or I believe you can also find them in Walmart or Kmart.

I still am waiting for someone to recommend a Visa or MC that is not tied to my address. I think I would have to specify the address so the zip code matches for the verification process, but I want to subscribbe to baseballl games without having the blakout ruless apply to my area. (Misspellings intentional in case they are watching---remember the Simpsons! LOL)

Thanks.

You could either not give the card an address in the first place or give it a bogus address. If you're really worried, you could try giving a relative's name and address.

In other news, I just checked the balance, and I found out I'm back at $100. That can't be right because I've got my new doll right next to me right now. This is fucking weird.

I can't do no zip code, because the website asks that to verify the card. (That's pretty standard actually.) I don't mind giving a "different" address as long as I get the card number via email and no verification is sent out. Relatives won't work because they all live within the blackkout area.
