The "Is This Game Rare?" Thread

I always have these types of questions and I havent seen a thread, so I decided to make one.

I am wondering about is The Guy Game on XBOX. My EB has about 3 sealed ones (not guts) and I've heard that this game is rare, but I've also heard that its not.

I am also wondering about Irritating Stick on PSX, a mom and pop store by me also has like 4 sealed copies of it for 5 bucks each.

Thanks!

I believe the guy game is rare because one of the girls in it is actually underage, making it child pornography. It should have been pulled from shelves, but I could be wrong but that's what I've heard.

I found a PS2 copy at Blockbuster for $5, picked it up and sold it on Amazon for $30.
How much is the The Guy Game at EB?
$20 used for the PS2 version. The Xbox version is no longer listed, not even when you search backordered items. I'm surprised this is in their system at all. It even says there are PS2 copies in my area.

If yours has Xbox guy games sealed, lemme know how much they are. I've been looking for a copy to add to my collection of "Games that should not be."

edit - just read he said xbox, how much are they there?

If the OP can get his Gamestop to part with em cheap I'm still interested. TBH if any of the employees don't care, its probably out of the system so he could get away with it somewhat.

Just because it isn't on the website doesn't mean it's 'not in the system'.

Anyway, best I can recall, it was around $17.99 the last time I saw one used at a GS, so I'd imagine it's still hanging around that range. Though, if they're sealed and considered 'new', they may be more.
Okay, here's a serious one....

How about Shenmue Limited Edition w/Passport & Soundtrack?
It's fairly rare, as it was just limited to pre-orders. Tt doesn't hold much value though. I have it and enjoy it.

Rez, no, not really. My GC has had 3 or 4 used copies for many, many months. A sealed one could pull some cash, but otherwise, nah.

Alright, cool. Thanks for the info, Scorch.

That's what happened, from what I remember hearing about this game. I own it myself(one of the only games I have left for the XBox)and I find it hilarious that a game like that was released.

But what happened with the girl was that she 1) used a fake ID to get into the bar where she also 2) signed a waiver form allowing the use of ANY video with her in it on the game.

Of course, who really should get in trouble for this? If you ask me, the game company should've SUED HER for falsely representing herself, instead of the other way around, since she was the one there illegally in the bar.

She and her family sued over the footage and that's why this game is so controversial in some peoples opinions. Even funnier was that some sites reported that her parents even paid for breast implants for her, so how wacked is that family to begin with?

ive seen 2 copies of the guy game on ps2 locally at a blockbuster for 15 a piece that i almost bit on because i thought they were rare.
oh and also

how about secret of evermore, illusion of gaia, megaman x, and tales of the abyss?

Last time I remember seeing the guy game new at gamestop, it was $35 or so new.

Shenmue LE is obscure. Not rare, but not common. Worth around $30 or so.

With the exception of Secret of Evermore ($15), the rest of the SNES games go for about $7 each...Tales of the Abyss is a weird one; its price has fluctuated like crazy. It was as high as $50 used to a low of $30 new; it seems like its stabilizing out to about $30-40ish used now.

theres always digital press. they keep a running database of rarity and approximite prices for older games. based off there advanced guide that I have :

secret of evermore - $12 , Rarity 2 (common)
megaman X - $8 , Rarity 1 (common)
illusion of gaia - $12 , Rarity 1 (common)

If anyone else has any game rarity requests for anything Pre-PS2 generation , ask me and I'll check it in my guide.

I don't like digital press because they put a lot of emphasis on "test, one ofs, and non official" games as the "rarest".... it doesn't lend much to "quality vs rarity"..

like for me.. I can't find Earthbound on the SNES.. i can find pretty much any other game worth playing on it but that one..

heres a question.. since the xbox 360 has now been out a few years, are there any "rare" games for it?.. i only ask because I was just curious and I hadn't heard about too many "hard to find" games for it.

The only "rare" games so far on the 360 are Transformers Cybertron edition and the T for Teen Collector's Edition of Oblivion.

Even then, neither is valuable, just somewhat rare.

what about bioshock LE?

I have a game that I want to know if it is RARE, hard to find etc...

Wanderers from YS III on the SNES, I have it, took it to GS a few years back with a boatload of other games, they would not take it, said it was not in their system.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit, and decided to keep it after all. I think I still have the box for it as well. Anyone know how rare that title is?

Thanks!

I can understand that frustration , but from a collector's perspective , what's going to be the most valuable? Prototypes , demos and short print titles. For perspective on earthbound , it's listed as going for about $25 and is a rarity 2. Considering that so many people can't find the game anywhere , I'd simply chalk that up to anyone that has the game doesn't want to give it up.

Honestly , I don't use the Digital Press guides as a be all resource , but it's a helpful resource for stuff that may or may not be valuable. For example , out of my entire 100+ PS1 collection , only a handfull of titles I have are listed as being a Rarity 4 or higher.

Y's III : The Wanderes from Y's - $10 , Rarity 3 (less common)

Edit : to be more specific with the rarity listing , rarity 3 is said to be "findable through the proper channels , hard to find on the street , but fairly common online.

Bioshock LE is also obscure, not as rare as the other two but not common either. The difficult thing with Bioshock is that placed like gamestop dont take the entire set used, so it is one of those titles where you have to buy it new or not at all.

The Bioshock LE is Rare depending on what you have. If it is 100% and i mean everything but the shrink wrap it gets about 80, prices only go down from there.
how about a nes version of prince of persia still in box (not sealed)
Prince of Persia - $5 , Rarity 4 (Uncommon) The kinds of items you have to look for but are always within reach.

It should be noted that the $5 price (as well as the prices for all of the above games mentioned by me) is for "game only" no box or manual. Price will most likely be higher with box and or manual but YMMV.

Yeah, I'm one of those people.
Yeah, I'm one of those people.
I'm one of those people who doesn't want to pay $60+ for a game that old >_>

EarthBound is really worth 60-80 cartridge only, I see them ending around there all the time on eBay.

so here's a serious one, is Advanced Wars DS (sealed) rare? i know it went out of print and nintendo does a horrible job with player's choice so we wont be seeing any copies of this in a long while.

I think games are also regional, for example I hit up 3 Earthbounds in a month period (never paid over $15/copy, 1 complete w/ guide). I did the same thing for 3 Secret of Manas (never over $6/copy, 2 compltete). On the other end of the spectrum, I haven't seen a SNES Ogre Battle in years in the area and the Lufia's have been pretty elusive. When I went up north, certain "rare" games were easier to find in the wild, while the ones I see a lot in my area were not seen.

I used digitpress a lot, however, they really need to update. Some of the older games are becoming more scarce, and some of the values need to go up. I just lucked into a US Version of Alex Kidd in Shinobi Land and I think digit Press is way off on value, but right on rarity (R7).

I had a complete boxed copy of Sim Ant that sold for $35ish on teh eBay... I want to the thrift store last year, and it was just there behind the glass.

I think it was an R4 at Digipress...
