Gamestop/EB Games -- B2 get 4 free DVDs

kenn

CAGiversary!
I was shopping for a game last night and I overheard two employees discussing an internal email. They were reading it from the monitor -- buy 2 used DVDs and get 4 free... It stacks with the edge card but not with the employee discount apparently. I don't have any more detail but someone that has ties to an employee or two needs to look it up...

This is legit. It starts on February 25th 2008.

I've been calling around since their buy 2 get 2 free and it's pretty rare that they carry Blu rays or hd dvds. Each store usually had around 1 or 2. And they were either the prestige or spiderman 3.

I'll call some bigger eb games and gamestops to check again once this sale starts. I guess their phasing out of dvd's has begun

title should really read Gamestop/EB Games -- B2 get 4 DVDs free

the way it reads now makes it seem like it would be 2 free for a total of 4.
Are they trying to get out of the used DVD market?
There are a couple EB/GS stores around my area that are no longer accepting dvd 'trade ins.' One of the store managers suggest that they are trying to "phase" out of the market. So, perhaps this is an indication.

Nice deal if anyone can find HD movies, although chances are slim.

i think the sensation inside my head was my brain exploding against the insides of my skull. If it really is 6 dvds for the price of 2, that is fantastic, i just need to find some decent dvd box sets. The problem is that there is no way i can find 6 dvd seasons that I would want.

Box sets or no box sets, HD or no HD, this is a killer deal no matter how you look at it! This could be the perfect opportunity to re-buy a few DVDs that I lost over the summer.

I haven't seen 6 DVDs I would want from them. Even with the deal they have movies I can get for $6 new marked at $15 used.

And people always talk about how they always get great TV shows from GS and EB, i don't know which ones they go to but none around me.

This is a great deal, my local Gamestop has a ton of used DVD TV Sets.
I'll be sure to take some money out of my next check, in case this deal is real.

I hope that they do not stop selling used DVDs. That's the main reason why I go to Gamestop.

What's Moviestop? Never heard of it.

It's GameStop...for movies...seriously...

The employees were reading it right off the screen and they were excited. This is, in fact, the exit from the DVD business we have read about. Both employees stated that they would be pulling aside the ones they want ahead of time... One more thing they did mention was that corporate was going to be pushing stock to physical stores to sell. The corporate email stated that they were going to be getting a huge shipment of used DVDs directed from "Richardson" which is part of the Dallas/FT.Worth Metroplex. I don't know if that is a store or warehouse.

This particular GS has an area that runs down the side of the checkout. I was conveniently reading the COD4 manual on the counter while they were reading the email together and discussing it. Talk about lack of control of sensitive information.

I have no axe to grind and don't care if EB games sells/doesn't sell DVDs. Unless GS/EB games changes it's mind, somehow, this is 100% legit as it was a corporate email sent to the manager of the store...

Hopefully some of you score some great DVDs on the cheap...

This could be interesting. 6 DVDs for the price of 2 is awesome if I can find something I want. And there are about four GS/EBs near my house, so I could get some serious mileage out of this.

Man, I hope this is true. GS has been excellent for boxsets... and B2G4F would actually make their movie DVDs worth it!:)

I have never heard of it either.

If Gamestop was smart (yeah I know) they would switch the EBs over to movie stores. I have seen malls and areas around malls where there are two, three, even 4 GS / Ebs within 1/4 mile of each other. What's the point?

Why the fuck wouldn't they just transfer the stock to MovieStops? GameStop must be run by retards. If they couldn't fit them all in the stores, surely there'd be enough room in warehouses, etc.

Wow, I hope this is a legit sale. Sadly my local Gamestop got rid of their DVDs ages ago. I'd have to travel about 60 miles to the city to where they have about 10 of these stores and all of them still was selling used DVDs around Christmas time when I was there last. If I was into flipping, then this is an absolute dream...well perhaps not. Every damn fatwallet person will be standing outside hours before they open waiting like it's a Black Friday sale...I've actually seen one of these flippers buying DVDs during a b2G1 sale at my local GS. He bought at least 100 DVDs. I was thinking it's such a waste as the DVDs was already priced too high and he'd be making probably a dollar or two off of each one if he was lucky. A sale like this will definately bring out all the sleeze...now I don't know if I want to go. *sigh*

Sweet deal. Thanks OP. Hopefully, it turns out to be true. Time to visit the GS/EBG in my area and check on their dvd stock.
Will they be having any HD/BD deals, as well?
Any of the DVD deals pertain to DVDs, HD-DVDs, and BDs. For instance, on their site now, under the trade-in values page (for some reason), there is the B2G2 for DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-ray.

Is there any way to find out if your local Gamestop has movies still in stock? (I mean other than calling)

I know all the ones in the malls around here stopped selling them back when they were still doing the buy 2 get 2 deal, and all the other stores I've seen have gotten rid of them too, so I'm amazed that there are still stores selling DVDs.

I've got a ton of GS stores around here, and I noticed that every, single one that is in a mall doesn't have DVDs. All of the ones who are in strip malls or just located on a normal street still do. It has to do with store size, I assume. The mall ones tend to be in the smallest spaces available, where as many of the others stores actually have some breathing room. I was in a mall GS today, there were about five people in the store, and it felt like we were on top of each other.

My local store has some Blu Rays and HD-DVDs but they are mostly disc only so I might finally buy them when this hits on 2/25.
Seriously....buy 2 get 4 free....this would be awesome on dvd boxsets.
i guss i'm getting smallville 1-6

I've looked through the past 4 days of e-mails, and I can't find this anywhere. I'm going to go on a limb and say this is going to be temporary YMMV like they did with the B2G2 when it was first introduced.

Does any one realize that this is going to be going on while the transworld extra 45% trade-in credit is still going on? This is going to be amazing.

I go into Gamestop all the time in my area and the manager there knows me by name now :D, I went in yesterday and he mentioned to me that the sale does start on the 25th and yes, YMMV being that they are doing this to all of the low selling DVD stores. Basically they are using this to phase out the DVDs in all the stores but their high selling stores. Basically only some of the gamestops will be doing this deal.

Almost correct. Only certain stores are doing B2G4 free at this point but from what our DM told us it looks like as a company we're phasing out DVDs. The select stores in our district doing this now are the ones overstocked on DVDs but it might(probably) go company wide at some point. The BS thing is that our store is DEFINATELY overstocked on DVDs but we aren't participating. ;_; We have an overstock of about 300 DVDs we can't fit on our shelves and we aren't allowed to ship them to other stores.
