CAG Wipeout Custom Soundtrack

it has some stuff you've heard, but mostly it'll be new to people here. It's all in the vein of the electronic feel of Wipeout except for a few tracks, so post impressions. Be sure to set it on random for max enjoyment :)

Yeah when I saw that trailer I almost creamed myself.

Sad thing is that there is still no definitive release date. The trailer just says 08. Sony says early 08, which could be broadly interpreted to mean anytime in the first half. Just wish I knew the date already.

I've always hated the fact that wipeout had weapons. I wish it was more like F-Zero.
Wipeout looks good though, so I'm definitely not complaining.

I like the weapons but the handling in Wipeout always felt "floaty" and disconnected compared to F-Zero.

I agree with that too.. even when I turned the weapons off, it was always hard to make it around coners.

The Wipeout series has never changed the handling through the different games it seems. I recently tried Wipeout Pulse and it's still the same way. In F-Zero GX you can "snap" around corners at the right time if you're good. In Wipeout you're basically a stick in the mud.

Hell I've loved Wipeout since its inception. Pure and Pulse have pulled the series back in a good direction. I love the way it handles. Easy to race, hard to master the courses.

I absolutely loved Pure and I played up until I got my ass handed to me one one of the upper levels (those damn straightaways with the snaking in the middle KILL me). I'll pick up Pulse once it drops in price but this video made me drool; wasn't this suppose to be out at the end of '07? Seems to me they keep pushing it back.

It was released in Europe in fall 2007.

Can't wait for this. Oddly, I've always /liked/ the floaty feel of the controls in this game. Somehow it just fits.

The control's all in the airbrakes. Should be even cooler now with the trigger L2 and R2 buttons. Can't wait for this one!

Yeah, that's the difference. When playing the PSP version I felt that the controls were gimped a little.

Has custom soundtrack always been a part of Wipeout HD? I saw an update to the fact sheet for the game and that stuck out to me, along with photo mode, as being something new.

If you're wondering, here's what is listed on it:
KEY FEATURES
· PS3 – Get ready to experience wipEout in full-HD 1080p resolution at 60-frames-per-second. Greater processing power of PS3 enables more immersive visuals and sound effects in wipEout HD, heightening the speed within the stunningly beautiful environments.
· SIXAXIS wireless controller – wipEout HD provides full support of the SIXAXIS wireless controller to give the player a variety of choices and depth of control unseen in any previous iteration of wipEout.
· Tracks – A selection of the best tracks taken from previous wipEout titles, meticulously crafted and fully reworked from the ground-up to showcase the full-HD resolution.
o Vineta K – On the southern shores of Makana Island, the circuit at Vineta K snakes in and out of the ocean and across the beaches. The highlights of this 4.4km track include spectacular underwater tunnels and cutting-edge architecture along the waterfront.
o Chenghou Project –The feature-packed circuit at Chenghou Project weaves its way around the offices and corporate buildings of Makana Island's business district. The 4.8 km track contains a tricky inverse-cambered spiral and culminates in a long jump into the tunnelled entry of the final chicane.
o Sebenco Climb – The 4.8 km Sebenco Climb track is cut into the hillsides of Makana's Sebenco mountain range. It features a steep traverse up the snowy mountainside, followed by a breathtaking plunge into an icy tunnel carved through the very heart of the mountain. The final section takes pilots through a challengingly tight chicane before they swing back onto the grid.
o Sol 2 – The 4.4 km Sol 2 circuit hangs suspended in the clouds high above Makana Island. Consisting of a series of fast-flowing, occasionally open-sided corners linked by sweeping straights, the combination of harsh sunlight and blind summits ensure that Sol 2 is a test of nerve for every speed class.
o Ubermall – In the heart of Makana Island's commercial zone is Ubermall, a 4.6 km circuit built into a vast shopping centre. The latter half of the track contains a brief split which rejoins into a narrow hill, followed by an outdoor park section that leads swiftly to the finish.
o Anulpha Pass – The 5 km Anulpha Pass track is located in a custom-built entertainment arena on the east side of Makana Island. Although the track looks deceptively simple from above, the undulations of the track surface and narrow skill-cut are enough to keep any racer on their toes.
o Moa Therma – The immense man-made complex of Moa Therma is located just off the northern coast of Sicily, with around a third of the track surface built using mag-strip technology. The centrepiece of this 5.3 km circuit is the gigantic horizontal loop which sits just above sea level.
o Metropia – The 4.7 km Metropia circuit weaves its way between the skyscrapers and traffic control towers that dominate the Kyoto skyline. Glass-bottomed track surfaces and a stunning vertical mag-strip drop into the depths of the city are just two of the highlights of this popular track.
· Teams – wipEout HD features eight teams from wipEout Pulse, including: Feisar, Assegai, AG-Systems, Qirex, Piranha, Triakis, Goteki45 and EG-X.
· Pilot Assist – Get help navigating your way around the HD circuits with the new Pilot assist feature.
· Five Race Modes – wipEout HD features five race modes, including: Single Race, Tournament, Time Trial, Speed Lap and Zone Mode.
· Difficulty Levels – wipEout HD offers three difficulty levels; adjustable independent of speed class.
· Online Multiplayer – Up to eight players will be able to compete against each other in a range of online races, across several game modes.
· Additional Content via Download – Extra game content will be made available to download and plug directly into the main game, including extra teams and ships, extra tracks and additional events for the race campaign mode.
· Photo mode – During any race, pause the game and select the Photo Mode option. You can choose which ship will be the focus of the camera, and adjust the camera angle, zoom level, and so on. Images are saved to your HDD.
· A Full Arsenal of Weapons – Choose from a wide range of weapons including missiles, rockets, mines and the brand new leech beam.
· Score Posting – Post your best lap times and race records in game (for both offline and online modes) and compare them against other wipEout players across the globe.
· Pumping soundtrack – Feel the beat with 9 fully licensed music tracks, all remixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound for an even more intense game experience.
· Custom Play lists –As if that wasn't enough, wipEout HD also supports 'Custom Play lists': playback your own music using play lists created in the PS3 XMB™ (Xross Media Bar).

Edit: I checked out one that GameSpot had from last fall and photo mode's on there, but not custom soundtrack, so that seems like the new addition.

Custom soundtracks has been rumored but I think that was mostly because of Pulse having that ability.

Good to know though. I was hoping that they would implement this. Just more icing on the cake.

note about the new trailer:

it's available now as well in the Euro PSN Store... definitely download it since it's in HD and looks better than anything online.
Pure revitalized my interest in the series. I'm hoping for a $9.99 price point, but I might bite at $14.99.
It will not be that cheap.

I'm going to bet it will be priced at $29.99 (or maybe even $39.99 since SCEA loves that price). Since the game has impressive graphics (close to a retail version) and a decent amount of content, I do not see SCEA letting this game go for less than $19.99. If they priced PAIN, PJM, Super Stardust HD, Toy Home, etc. at $9.99, there's no way they'll price Wipeout HD at the same price as them.

I'll buy this whatever the price is (even $40), since I just really want this.

I'm hoping for $20, but may go up to 30. I hope they don't do it for 40, because the retail PSP games cost that (actually Pure is now 15 new) and this is kind of a HD remix of those games coming out later and download only.

Just wishful thinking :)

The game is simply not high enough on my radar to warrant a whole lotta cash right now. $20 would be the absolute max for me, but even then I'd have to think about it.

Ugh I accidentally hit Back and it ate my post. I was just saying how I've been playing a little Wipeout Pure again lately and it's gotten me looking forward to this a lot more. Also sort of wondering how much they've sabotaged sales of Pulse because people might be holding out for HD. Even if it's not as full-featured as Pulse, or is just a bunch of older courses (that won't make a huge difference to me because Pure is the first Wipeout I've played a lot), having a real analog stick to control should make up for it. I really hope it's not $40, though.

I think they took a bunch of courses from Pulse and Pure.

The game will only have 8 tracks, since I watched the Euro video. I will still get Pulse, but there's no denying HD has a higher excitement level for me.
According to leaked sources, we will get this in May.
I just read that, but wasn't that for the Euro store. Could we get it a few weeks earlier? (Most stuff comes out in US before EU)
I just read that, but wasn't that for the Euro store. Could we get it a few weeks earlier? (Most stuff comes out in US before EU)
Well, for games which are mostly targeted for Europe (where they get a translation before us or heavily influenced by SCEE), usually come to Europe first (Wipeout Pulse came to Europe first). If it was a game by SCEA, we'd definitely get it first. I think that's part of the reason it's taking so long, because getting games out to the European PS Store takes forever (since SCEE has to make the game in all European languages and get the game approved in all European nations).

It looks like Wipeout Pure on steroids, which were injected with extra steroids. I can't wait to give it a try with a real controller, since my Wipeout sessions generally involved a lot of careening off walls.

Have they said if there will be any splitscreen multiplayer, either off/online?

You know, this is exactly the kind of motion control implementation I was looking for, especially in combination with rumble.

With motion controls the biggest problem is giving player feedback when your input is incorrect or out of bounds, the only feedback you get is when you crash but that's not instantaneous enough. With the inclusion of a rumble for player feedback, the player instantly knows when he's tilted the controller too far and can correct himself. This allows the player to learn the motion controls much more quickly.

Heck, they should add the little rumbles for stick controls too since I know a lot of people who use the sticks too much like a dpad, just pressing it all the way instead of slight movements.

Just watched the video and . I haven't put any music on my PS3 yet, but it looks like I'll have to get a playlist in order for this game. Motion controls look really great, too. And now I'll have something else to blame for crashing into walls all the time.
