I have a GBA and a Gamecube, and I'm just wondering if I should get the GC/GBA cable. I see the list of games compatible with it, but do I need the GBA games as well? Without them, is it worth having? Thanks.

The only reasons I can think of to get one is if you want to go to the island in Animal Crossing, or if you have Pac Man Vs. Otherwise it seems useless to me.

There are two ways to look at it. Unless you've got a specific use for it in mind, it's not a vital accessory...but it's also going to be dirt cheap by now and there are some games that make nice usage of it.
It has uses in Zelda: WindWaker, but it's not mandatory. Also Metroid Prime, but I think you need Metroid Fusion to access the extra stuff.
To go into a bit more detail, linking it to Wind Waker will give you the Tingle Tuner, which is a map / quick-access store / hint device, and is pretty darn useful. With Metroid Prime, you can link the games to unlock more art in Fusion's galleries and the original Metroid as a bonus feature in Prime.

I'm pretty sure it's got uses in Pokémon XD as well, if you want to trade GBA Pokémon to the Cube game. It's also a necessity for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

Yeah I've seen it new in stores for $4.99 and that's why I'm asking. I do have Wind Waker and Four Swords, but I don't think I can find three friends with GBAs and cables as well.

The Metroid bonus sounds cool, but I don't have Fusion.

I would suggest buying a used one, or a third party one. They shouldn't be over $2-3, and for that price you can mess around with it.

I don't recommend a third party one. Nintendo ones are easy enough to find used, and cheap. I had to redo a fairly long level in LoZ:Four Swords Adventures due to a third party cable going which stopped working in the middle of the game. Something like that...I don't remember exactly, but I do recall I made an emergency run to Gamestop with the guys to get another cable. I actually found a new one marked used for a couple dollars.

Worth it to get, and to get a reliable cable.

And it isn't too hard to convince some friends to pick up an original GBA, since they're so cheap used, LoZ: Four swords is worth it, and I hope Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is too. I got both on a CC clearance awhile back. Really, each person invests $25-30 and gets quite a bit of gaming out of it together, and can play GBA games on their own if they wish. We've gotten together and played Zelda eightish times (maybe a few more...), and have one more night before finishing it. They weren't marathon sessions, but long enough to be fun, and get a fill of playing.

My wife also loved the Tingle tuner in Wind waker.

I say: "Go for it!"

It also has uses for Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance when linked to Fire Emblem or Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones after you clear the GC game.

If you have friends and controllers you need the following:

PAC-MAN VS.

So awesome. You hook up one GBA and 3 controllers. One person starts as pac-man, playing on the GBA, the others play as the ghosts on the TV (they have a limited viewing area.) When one of the ghosts catches pac-man, you pass the GBA to them and they play. This goes on until one person reaches a predetermined score. This game is so sweet.

P.S. It comes as a pack-in with Pac-Man World 2, I found it at Gamestop.
Also I believe the first DS phats hooked up to the Gamecube with that cable... the slim redesign changed the hookup though.
Ummm...no. No DS will hook up to the GameCube.

If you happen to have all that equipment this is a great game to get, and FYI, Pacman World 2 is a lot of fun too. However, if you have multiple DS's or friends with DS's then a better option for Pacman Vs. is to get Namco Museum for DS which includes Pacman Vs. - it supports download play for it (so only need one copy of the game), and it works great.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I bought a new first-party cable today: it was marked $4.99 but scanned at $1.99. I think at that price I might buy a couple more: GBAs are really cheap nowadays as well. :D
