Home remedies?

BluesCluesMama

CAGiversary!
Anyone know a home remedy for curing a headache? I have had one for a week and a half now and nothing works. I have tried aspring AND tylenol and nothing works! Been popping it like crazy! Sometimes caffeine helps me but it isn't this time. So can anyone give me some advice? It's killing me.

You've had a head ache for a full week and a half and it hasn't occurred to you that you should probably see a doctor?

I don't have health insurance and have seen docs for this already. I'm on medication that I'm going to have to stop taking very soon because I am no longer covered. I get migraines all the time. I'm on topomax and trazadone for it.

They're called strokes. The cure for that is to die. Go see a doctor.

cocaine, hot shower, cold shower, cold wash cloth, the mushrooms in your front yard (god help you if you eat the ones in your backyard), have someone scare the headache out of you, drink water upside down, sleep, goldbond foot powder on your chest, vicks under your eyes

never put vicks anywhere near your eyes.

unless you want the pain in your eyes to help you ignore the pain in your head.

Already said I did this and I can't go for this again. My insurance got canceled and I'm as broke as broke can be. It's between my medicine right now and food. Food wins.

cancel your internet, get off your computer, sell your computer, get insurance and dont ever come to a videogame website again asking for health advice.

That would be a bad idea, my husband needs the internet for his second job. lol

^And believe me I have thought of that... not jokingly either.

Time for you to get a job at your local Wal-Mart.
Time for you to get a job at your local Wal-Mart.
Target! Walmart sucks on employees! :bomb: Can't though, we have no one to watch the kids because my in-laws never want to help and because my husband works two jobs outside of the home(and when he is home he still does some work on the computer for one of them) that leaves me with babysitting duty. Childcare is so damn expensive for one kid alone that if I did get a job and we sent both to daycare nearly all my wages would go towards their daycare because it isn't just one kid. Thus why I'm a stay at home mom and he brings home the bacon. When he finally gets a pay raise good enough at his one job and is able to drop the second job I would like to get a job at Target. Employee discount! *dance*

They've had me on it since around September of 2007. I was on it before I got pregnant with my daughter as well, but it's not recommended for pregnant women so I was off it while I was pregnant. It costs hundreds of dollars. I'm not sure howmuch exactly because I've only tried to pay for one prescription once and backed down because it was around $200 which is WAY too much.

The topomax has several uses. It's supposed to be a mood stabalizer but it's also for headaches. Trazadone is supposed to help you sleep but is also known to help with headaches too supposedly. Thats what all my docs keep telling me.

Everyone that I know who takes topomax does so for migraines. Strange that they'd go that far for a non-migraine headache, but hey, I'm not a doctor.

Its a dangerous med to quit suddenly. I have contacted my doc on how to taper down safely so I dont end up having a seizure. I think it is also an anti-seizure med but if you don't usually have seizures and take it for migraines and suddenly quit without tapering down you can have one. I used to be on medicaid but they cut us off because my husband is making $10 too much now. But $10 isn't going to cover my medical costs and prescriptions let alone groceries. Even if we did get rid of the internet(which we cant because he needs it for his new second job) it still wouldn't cover the costs. Thats why I'm looking for homeopathic ways of dealing with the headaches.

But these prescriptions aren't just for my migraines, they are for depression. They just have the lucky side effect of helping my migraines. Hopefully I can get some advice on some homeopathic ways of dealing with that as well. My kids need food in their mouths so I need to deal with this in any way that I can until my husband can get health insurance through his work.

Sounds to me like you've either built up a tolerance to those drugs or simply coffee (which, in essence, is a drug itself and just as body-chemical-altering as any over-the-counter item) and since your body isn't getting the amount it now requires you're beginning to "jones", so to speak.

But to tell you the truth, as i am no professional, it could very well be anything and my opinion could be totally wrong

in any case, here's your tea

Oh my that is so pricey. I wonder if I can find something like that for cheaper at the store. The grocery store near me has a wide variety of teas, they even had one for mothers who just had a baby that could strengthen the uterus. I just need to look long and hard because the aisle is huge. But that tea looks like it would even help with my depression too. Sucks that it's so expensive.

Man you can just read the first line of the directions and you can tell thats going to be some expensive ass stuff:

Directions: Infuse 1 teabag in a glass of boiling water for one minute or bring it to the desired strength.

Try to avoid everything that triggers migraine or severe headaches. Triggers of migraine headache vary among individuals and include behavioral factors, foods, hormones, medicines, lights, odors, or other environmental factors. The most common migraine triggers are:
 • Stress (either during a stressful time or right after stress subsides).
 • Menstrual cycle in women.
 • Changes in sleep - either getting too much or too little sleep.
 • Fasting or skipping meals.
 • Changes in barometric pressure or the weather.
 • Bright light or reflected sunlight.
 • Foods such as chocolate.
 • Excessive caffeine or caffeine withdrawal.
 • Smoking or being around someone who smokes.

Boy would I love to be able to avoid that!! LOL

to be honest, the ingredient Rhizoma Lignstici Chuanxiong sounds to me like they strung together random chinese words to make it sound more "authentic", but that was the first thing that came up in google, so they must be doing something right getting that many hits...but the prices are indeed a little unnecessary...

also, another helpful page, maybe

An old teacher of mine used to swear by this:

Using your index fingers, press hard on the gums above your top teeth for a few minutes.

Tylenol always works for me, so I haven't tried it.

Oh, and I'd wash your hands first. ;)

Well, the whole point would be so you could get insurance not so you could go fat-cat it up with your new salary.

Find a cheap daycare, dump your kids in it and get your medicine.

Sex. Sex cures everything!

It causes a few things too, but mostly it cures.

If that fails, have your hubby or someone press very firmly on the fleshy part of your hand between your thumb and forefinger, and have him hold it for 10-15 minutes while you lie back with a warm washrag over your closed eyes.

Guaranteed to work.

But try the sex first. It's more fun.
My parents used to boil Coca-Cola and a few slices of ginger together for a few minutes.

Wow. Caffeine City, USA! I suppose that might help, if you're suffering from a headache induced by caffeine withdrawal (namely, by giving you one helluva caffeine jolt.)

Since it is difficult to guess what is behind the OP's headaches, however, I have no idea whatsoever how she can cure them.

I drank some green tea just about a half hour ago and that seemed to help for some reason. And I wasn't even thinking of using it for my headache, I used to drink green tea for weight management and I'm starting back up on my diet again. Maybe it's a fluke, but I'll report back if it works for me again.

Blues, have you had your eyes checked lately? It could be that you're straining your eyes too much. Or the vision in your eyes have become out of whack (you're left eye is fine but you're near sighted in the right). Just a thought.

You're giving yourself rebound headaches by taking all that Tylenol, aspirin and caffeine. You need to see a doctor who can adjust your prophylactic medications and possibly put you on a prednisone taper.

I probably do need to get my eyes checked again. :( But I can't afford to. At least not til next tax season. We're using our taxes this year to move because this apartment has turned into a dangerous place to be. The neighbors upstairs are pot dealers and have gang banger friends.
