Progressive scan question

I found a Nintendo website that explains how to enable progressive scan mode (presuming you have the cable and appropriate GC). The instructions seem to imply that you only have to hold down B at power up exactly once, and then all progressive scan compatible games, even ones you haven't played yet, will display in progressive scan mode, whether you hold down B or not. Is that correct? I'm taking a progressive scan cable to my nephews (who have an HDTV - I don't yet) and I just want to make sure I understand how this works. I.e. I don't need to tell them to hold down B every time, I just have to do it for them once, on one progressive scan compatible game, and then it will be set for all games. Is that correct?

EDIT: also, will all games, even ones not compatible with progressive scan, display through the component cable, or do you also have to plug in the regular video cable and use that for non-progressive scan games?

yes holding down the button at start up of the cube works, i just press and hold it until the game starts, i think for Mario Sunshine its the only way to get it to run in prog. scan. I cant remember if it was B or A since I havent done it for a while. the cables will display all games, the non-prog. scan games just play as normal.

You hold down B, and sometimes you'll have to confirm that you want to run in prog scan.

(I think. It's been two or three years since I last booted up a GC title in prog scan.)
