"Rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness... give me the truth" ~ Henry David Thoreau

The reason this quote on my mind was because I just watched "Into The Wild". Everyone here should see it, it blew my mind.
Earthly possessions rock, though.
Well, I don't necessarily agree with the quote. But it is a great one.
I got that on DVD.

The bar fight scene, where you can see a camera man behind the bar, smiling, is straight up ca$h.

Gnarls Barkley sampled the opening credits.

"Crazy", obviously.

(Those aren't the opening credits for Django. Rather, one of its unofficially official sequels.)
Apparently it also influenced an JRPG for the GBA

And i prefer this Intro better, Its EPIC

Places i've surfed couches:

Argentina, USA, Italy, France, Germany, Romania, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Russia, Poland, Portugal, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Tunisia - i think that's all of them.

craziest shit:

in st. petersburg, russia, there was some SKETCHY shit goin down with my CS hosts, the guy in broken english was like "they want to come and take me, but i won't go, and i am here, i am here with olga and i am safe for now"

we were drinkin vodka and he just told me how fucked up the russian army is and how they basically abduct guys in their 20s and nearly kill them.

in Hefei, China, I got dragged into a night club with these three girls who were either hookers or just gold diggers but the kept trying to tear my clothes off and get at me, all the while, my middle aged australian host was just like "go for it, it's Hefei, anything goes" and i was like 'uh no aids or herpes please, peace' and ended up walking the streets until i found a 24 hr pool hall - played with a bunch of drunk ass businessmen.

in Toezur, Tunisia - my host was actually amazing in Tunis, probably the nicest guy i've ever met, that was my first experience with real arab hospitality - this guy's trying to buy all these things for me as a way to welcome me to his country, i'm the first american he's ever seen blah blah blah - then I left his place and went to Toezur to see the Sahara and ended up walking this 20km trek with this Bedoin who tried to con me out of my cellphone in exchange for guiding me back to the bus stop - fuck THAT - i got up in his shit and said I'd registered with the police (which was a lie) and we eventually settled on a small fee ($5)

there's loads of stories, i can honestly say that i've never felt in danger doing couch surfing, though some experiences are better than others. In thailand, my girlfriend at the time and I were treated like royalty by our host, she even came and picked us up at the airport in bangkok, left us with the keys to her apartment for a week etc.

it's really just about being open and willing to be polite and accomodating - it's not quite so much about just a free room.

So, I return from my week at CompTIA's HQ, to find that my people did this to my cube whilst I was away:

EDIT: Can you find the two montiors, one desktop, laserjet printer and two phones?
Yeah, took me about fifteen minutes, too.

That's aweseme, similar shit has happened at my work...one noteworthy was when everything on a co-workers desk was flipped upsidedown...monitor keyboard, mouse papers pinned on the wall, books...etc.

You're out of your fuckin mind fro sleeping in far away places.

And for some reason, checking your profile and seeing your pic I remember the line from PCU,

"Can you blow me where the Pampers is"

my thoughts, in order:
1- brilliant
2- if your people have time to do that, they don't have enough work to do. give them more. or make them do their current workload properly.

I'm gonna keep it all in mind.

it's funny cuz in Asia i just become the dirtiest slob ever - though that profile pic is pretty bad, it's at the end of a day of hiking up the mountain and i'm all sweater and eurotrash looking with the greasy wop harido.

also, sleeping is my specialty, i can basically do it anywhere. though i'm done with 23 hour hard seat train rides in china.

dallow - i actually started couchsurfing after CAG, cuz it was another cheap ass solution. I was going to japan and really didn't want to pay for hostels or hotels there.

Yeah, I got a kick out of it. I asked them "not to molest my desk too badly" while I was gone...so they hid it.

That is half of a phone book and several PC Mags from April 98 taped to all the surfaces.

They left the "E" section, though. So, when no one was looking I took all the yellow pages listings for "Escort Services" and stuffed every pocket of one of my guy's jacket with them.

The last time he stuffed an exercise bike in my cube, I took it, picked it up and put it on his desk. (He had hernia surgery last year, so I knew he wouldn't move it.)

That is actually the first they I said. (I was keeping tabs on things every night when I got back to my hotel.)

However, they did get their shit done, so no harm, no foul.

And Frosty, it is a locked lab...it's those that have their own keys I have to keep my eye on...

I have a few ideas already in the works.

They forget: I'm the one who leaves last at the end of the day.

BTW: You're a mod again? Just when you were getting to be fun again...
fuck. Got my 360 back and now my Wireless Adapter is just sitting with the red dot.

How do I make that shit green?
I had to re-set up the wireless key in the settings when I got mine back; otherwise, it will stay red.

I think I finally found some music my cat enjoys.

The pre-Electric Warrior era T.Rex albums.

That or he's sorry for knocking over the lamp and makeshift vase+flowers while I was at work.

My one roommate and I came to a sharing compromise. I'm providing the GTA and he's providing the 360.

It's a christmas miracle!

I'm getting the PS3 version tonight (if they had any left in the box, my friend said he would hold one), and Friday/Saturday I should have the 360 one.!

I wish Trainn wasn't being such a bitch lately, or I'd have ordered GTA4 by now. I have ordered it from megafreebie, but my "submitted for approval."

...

I'm tempted just to go pick it up at Meijer tonight.

How do you deal with language barriers?

You always get under my skin
I don't find it irritating
You always play to win
I don't need rehabilitating

Another girl, another planet
Another girl, another planet

Space travels in my blood
And there ain't nothing I can do about it
Long journeys wear me out
Oh God we won't live without it

Grand Theft UPS: copies of GTA stolen en route to retailers

By Ben Kuchera | Published: April 28, 2008 - 08:13AM CT
After reporting on the hype and controversy surrounding the Tuesday release of Grand Theft Auto IV, I can't believe I'm going to write a "this game causes crime!" story, but here we go. I spoke to an employee of UPS over the weekend, and he told me that a surprising amount of workers were getting busted stealing the game from the shipment boxes. In one 24-hour period, three workers were fired, and more interviews were scheduled for today that would likely end in termination.
I asked if this was common when big-name games were released, and he told me no; the situation was novel, or he wouldn't have brought it up at all. The game was enticing enough for many workers to risk losing their job and, in typical fashion for low-level crimes like this, it has been easy to identify the workers stealing the games.
"When we have a [big name release], we communicate it to operations and security teams. We have security in place at the facilities, and we make sure they understand to keep an eye out for things to exit the building," he explained. How did they find where games were stolen? "We had tips from people inside, and some of them were discovered at intermediate hubs... it's easy to spot: flaps torn, some boxes are re-taped." In most cases, the bust is as easy as finding the last person who scanned the box as full and interviewing them. "They're not selling them, these people are stealing one copy," he told me—all of the thefts seem to be for personal use. It seems many people think stealing a game a few days before release is worth it, and this is far from the perfect crime.
"As long as the people loading the packages are doing their jobs, it's easy to track down," our source told Ars. "It's kind of funny, isn't it? It's a game about theft, and people are stealing it." His eyes began to shine as he said, "and I get to terminate them."

I hope someone didn't steal my 360 from UPS...still no update since friday at am D:

Unless this is usual. I dont know, I have no real experience with UPS.
