There should be an official review panel for this site

CAGiversary!

Wouldn't it be nice if we had a official review panel for this site? It would be similar to regular online reviews, except we also have a section telling how good it is for its price. We could also have an automatic update of the cheapest price for the game. Do you think it is a good idea?

We have the Cag-o-matic that shows the daily price fluctuations of all games at most major stores. The review idea is interesting though I'm not sure how the voting would go for the official reviewers.

OP's got a point, though. The Game Reviews forum isn't exactly jam-packed with reviews, mostly jack-back-asswards commentary on a few titles, and some off-the-wall threads on random, off topic stuff. I'd vote for a review forum with a poll for newly released games. Each CAG who has played it could vote from 1-10 on the game and give us a short review in the thread (or just make their ass-hat comments there). The poll would give us an average score. There used to be Cheapy's game club discussions, but that was nixed a while ago when the political forum was set up.

I know they display results in percentages, but is there some way to script an average score based on poll responses ?

I would be willing to spend time writing reviews. I like your idea bmulligan, but I am afraid that there will be people that purposely give games multiple good or bad ratings. Thank you basketkase543, I never knew about the Cag-o-matic.

Actually we do have CAG reviews...DenisDFat 1 word reviews! "Sucks" and "Good"

I actually like the idea of reviews, especially since a few of our posters made some good reviews at videogamedeals.com

Yeah, and if we had a system where everybody voted, you'd be sure to see a lot of his lowering some good games...

I talked to cheapy and here is his plan, if you are willing to write a good in depth review, write it and email it to cheapy. He will then sticky it in the review forum and post something on the front page. If this proves successful, ie:a decent amout of responses , not too much flaming and reviews keep coming, we will it take a step further
this plan has been approved by CheapyD, :)

Perhaps if enough work goes into this it could become one of the sources for gamrankings.com and spread the CAG banner far and wide.

If we are all willing to do some (shudder) work, then it is quite possible

Come on, we only need 300!
;)

Cool CheapyD. I have a few old game reviews that I can post. Tell me how to format it and I will write a few more. I will just post them in these forums.

I posted 5 reviews of different styles and I will see the comments I get and revise my future reviews based on that.

EDIT: They are all GameCube reviews because I made these for the Official GameCube forums at first. I have a PS2 and Xbox as well so I will be able to make reviews for them.

A modest proposal that doesn't require any exotic culinary habits:

A CAG game ranking systems. Once a decent review of a game is contributed, registered CAGs may then vote their own rating, with the scale to be left to our proprietor's choice. To encourage greater site participation one vote is earned for each little Monopoly tycoon you have to your username. This also pretty much eliminates the possibliity of ballot stuffing for all but the most insane. Even then, they'd have to make a real contribution to the boards or their intense post whoring would soon cause them to be ejected.

The review for each site would of course prominently feature the kickback links for retailers offering the product. Otherwise, why should Cheapy bother?

It's a good idea, I just hope no one is immature and votes 1 or 10 on every game reviewed. The only "1" game i've ever played was "Rise 2: Ressurection" for the Playstation. Perhaps the worst game ever made.

I think this is a great idea. The fact of the matter is, of the various gaming websites, boards, etc. that I use, this is the one I feel the most identification/sense of community with. I know I'd certainly be willing to do some reviewing (and being as that I have a decent vocabulary and command of the English language, I think I could do well with it).

Here's my thought: I think CheapyD should establish some kind of reviewing/ratings standard, like all the other gaming websites have. It could be something as simple as an overall 1-10 score, or something as complex as a 1-5 scale for everything from textures to voice acting. Either way, once CheapyD establishes some sort of CAG reviewing standard, the rest of us that are interested can submit reviews that conform to that standard. This is kind of a modification of epobirs' idea, and could totally be implemented in conjunction with it (kinda like how IGN has their score and their reviews, and then their readers' score). Thoughts?

Well here's the scoring plan for now, it could change and we are willing to listen to all input.
A grading system based on letter grades

A+,A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+,C,C-, D+,D,D- and F

basically it scores out 13 instead of the usual ten, and I feel it's a better system, the magazines all seem to have a different idea of what an 8 is, but i think we all know what a C means.

also this system can be put as a poll on each official review thread.

Ok, so a C would be average right? I like that idea of a letter based review system. We should organize this so no two people do a review on the same thing, so PM me if you want to do a review and we can organize it like that (or should we PM CheapyD?). We need a template so that all the reviews will looks similar.

Yeah, I like your idea RELmajor03. We can just submit reviews to CheapyD and he can approve them. We should have the reviewr's score and then the score for the Cheapassgamer community (sort of like what IGN does).

Should I submit the one's I posted, or should I e-mail him few new ones?

Send him whatever you think is best, although a more recent review may be a good way to start this off
Oh, please don't PM me reviews.
PM studio...he needs the attention.
Hey i just posted what you told me, but hey I'll be happy to take them.
So, what's the dealio? Somebody lay it the process all out. And what would it take to get CAG on Gamerankings?
I am not quite sure myself, but I will tell you what I know. To get on gamerankings.com, a site needs 300 reviews in its archive. To get a review through, write a review and PM it to studio (Wombat5277). Try to make the review on a fairly new game and give it a letter grade for the score. I think that is correct...

I definitely like the letter grading system. I can see how one person could give a game a 5 and another person a 7, and they both feel the exact same way about the game.

Yeah thats the plan, although I fully admit this is a work in progress, I think it has tremendous potential (and so does Cheapy).
All we need now is for someone to PM me their review.
What type of document should our review be? Word, PM, E-mail?
I'm going to say PM for now, but if it easier to email me a word doc, thats cool too. :D

We don't need reviews to be stickied - we don't need to send reviews to Cheapy.

That is what this board is for. If you want to post a review, post it. Why will you only write a review if it is posted by cheapy?? Are you that insecure about your opinion?

What happened to this idea? Oh well, I will get my Resident Evil 4 review up as soon as I finish the game (which should be by next week).
