*UPDATE* Where do you find your game reviews, media and downloads other than IGN/Gamespy/Fileplanet?

**The problem below has been solved**

Since IGN did the new login thing, it says I have no subscription. (My subscription expires in October 2008.) I can't access any "Insider" stuff and when I try to go to support, I can't log in at all. :bomb: I can't even contact them through support because it won't let me log in. This isn't the first time I've had problems with them, but it's the first time I can't even get into the support section.

Is anyone else having problems and does anyone know a phone number or email I can use to contact IGN?

Ok, I see what they did now. The IGN support page is a separate account that is not at all a part of your IGN account. You have to make a new "support account" to send them emails. :wall: I thought I'd post this just in case anyone else had the same problem.

Am I the only one that thinks that's weird?

Could it have something to do with them integrating the Gamespy account to the IGN ones? I know I had trouble logging in until I merged my GS account with my IGN account.

Hehehehe....I like your name. I did that a long time ago. Thanks though. I'm pretty sure something got fucked up with this "NEW log in system" as they call it. Everytime they make a change, something in my account gets messed up. This happened with that Gamespy/IGN integration thing too. My account is really old and I think that's why it has problems.:oldman:

You may have already done it but didn't the new log in system require you to confirm your email address since it now requires everyone use their email address to log in.

(nice to know there's another Robocop fan on CAG btw )

I found out that for some reason IGN separated all of my accounts. Now I have an IGN account, a Gamespy account and a IGN Insider account all with different emails. My Insider account is a new one that was added when the 'New Login' thing happened and it sepatated my old accounts that had been previously merged. They had all 3 of my emails from old accounts and did this. IGN is the only website I ever had account problems with. Plus, they put my game collection on an account that isn't an 'Insider account'. WTF?!

I emailed them to see if they can just merge them all into one or something.

(And yes, Robocop is AWESOME!)

Here's the response from IGN support.

Hi there,
We no longer have the tools to delete or merge/link profiles or accounts for you. Game purchases are non transferable. Sorry for the inconvenience.
GameSpyID account: To remove yourself COMPLETELY from the database simply change your email address to a false email address at https://login.gamespyid.com [email protected]

Apparently they have no control of the accounts on THEIR SERVERS. This is fucking ridiculous! They screw up my account and won't fix it and I've paid for 'Insider' for years now. Well, I'm done giving them money. No more IGN Insider for me!

Anyone know of a good alternative to IGN for reviews and file downloads? Anyone use Gamespot or 1up? Any others? Please let me know.

Um, pretty sure you can just access the reviews for free (that's what I do)

www.gametrailers.com
http://www.metacritic.com/games/

Pretty funny they're collecting money from people for a service others provide for free, and they even fuck that up.

I used to like IGN because they had most reviews first and many exclusives and of course the main reason was Fileplanet. But it's just been one login problem after another and I'm tired of it. Thanks for the info camoor! Those look pretty good.

Any more ideas? What do you guys and gals use? (I can't believe I just wrote "gals".) What's the best as far as being first with reviews and media. Also, file downloads would be good.

So far I have:

Gamespot
Game Trailers
Metacritic
1up

Being the first to have a review is not a good thing, especially if they are using that “world’s first exclusive review” as a marketing tool. You have to wonder, what did they promise in order to get the first exclusive review? Also when they rush to get a first review out, without time to reflect on the game, are they reviewing the game, or the hype? We shouldn’t reward sites with page clicks for being the first to review a product.

I like 1up, but really it’s not so much the site, but the reviewer you should be looking at. Find a few reviewers you generally agree with, regardless of what sites they are on, it gives you some historical context for the score. I know some reviewers who could rate a game a 10, but I our tastes in games typically differ so much, that their score is meaningless to me.

You have a point there about the "exclusive review" thing. I never really thought of it like that. :whistle2:k Thanks! You are a wise CAG.

What do you guys suggest for a download (fileplanet-like) site? Are those worth paying for anymore. How is Gamespot's downloads? Others?
